I cannot recommend Dr Liu highly enough. My family and I have been going to him for the last 20 years and he has ALWAYS helped resolve whatever discomfort or injury we have been dealing with. Dr. Liu has treated me last spring for neck pain. He knew exactly why I had pain. And 6 sessions have helped so much! Needles and very careful adjustments were perfect. I ended up seeing neurologist around the same time and they couldn't offer any solutions. Physical therapy is fine for the long term outlook but when you need relief right away, it's not a solution. Once the pain is gone, physical therapy is a must but I am so grateful that acupuncture took the pain away. I think I had so much tension in my neck, I literally cried after the first session. I do go back for maintenance and adjustment once in a while if I lift heavy things but other than that it's been really good. They accept insurance, so if your insurance covers acupuncture, it is a really good deal! read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Liu's for over 4 years. In that time he has helped me with neck, lower back, knee, and shoulder injuries and pain. He has also treated me for anxiety. THANK YOU Dr. LIU! This is a very overdue review. I've been into this office a few times and most recently last week I woke up to a sharp pain in my rib area and thought that it would just disappear on its own. However, the day after the pain was even worse and I ended up going to 3-D Urgent Care over in Carlsbad. After being stuck there for 4 hours and no diagnosis asides from just taking 800mg of ibruprofen, I decided to get a second opinion as something wasn't sitting right and the pain was getting really bad. I called Dr. Lius office right after Urgent Care and they were able to fit me in for a 1:30. When I first got there Dr. Liu asked what happened, then he took a look at the area and was able to feel out an enlarged spleen and also my left rib was raised higher than the right. The muscles in my body were also extremely tense, and figured out that I had a pinched nerve. He provided acupuncture and then an alignment ( SO painful for me because we were basically pushing the ribs back) and told me that everything will be better in about 2-3 days and if not, I should call him and take another look. I don't like to throw around the word miracle all willy-nilly but it's the perfect word to describe my experiences here. Dr. Liu has actually been around for a while before in Carlsbad and he recently moved to start his own practice in Del Mar. I've always had back pain all my life (minor scoliosis) and I usually can keep it in check with yoga and regular stretching. But if I don't keep it up, my back will start hurting. That's when Dr. Liu comes in. He will start by checking the alignment of my back, and he knows right away where it hurts, I usually don't even have to tell him (which I think is a true mark of his skill), he will then usually chinese massage it (tui na). I'm not going to lie, it hurts like hell sometimes but like they say no pain no gain. The massage usually lasts for about a hour, and I'm super sore afterwards. But after a day, my back feels great and I can feel no tension or pain in my back. He usually ends it by cracking my back at the end and realigning my spine. I don't really have to go see him that often, but after a car accident I saw him a couple times. I've also recently just tried acupuncture, most of the times it doesn't hurt, but if my muscles happen to be super sore in that area, it will pinch a little. The upside is that it works immediately. Not only are his skills superb, Dr. Liu is professional, honest, and comfortable to be around. Now that I think of it, he is the only person I trust sticking needles into me! read more

I've had horrible neck pain for over a year. After x-rays I was told I have degenerated discs in my neck with arthritis. I honestly knew nothing about Acupuncture before it was recommended to me. I had a very serious accident and broke my back. I had a L1 burst fracture and every neurosurgeon that came to my hospital bed wanted to perform a very involved multi-level fusion. I refused surgery after finding one surgeon that would go along with me. I was on complete bed rest with a large uncomfortable brace for 3 months. I was in a lot of pain and was having bad reactions to all the pain meds. My friend suggested Acupuncture and really at that point I had nothing to loose and nothing to do! Dr. Frank Liu is truly an expert at his craft. I had never been to an acupuncturist before my visit to Dr. Liu. A good friend on mine urged me to make an appointment when I was telling her about the pain I was experiencing in my knee. After 2 weeks of increased pain I was finding it difficult to walk. I'd already been to my Orthopedic Doctor who put me on a prescription to decrease the inflammation. I made an appointment with Dr. Liu that afternoon hoping for relief. After a one hour visit the level of pain decreased dramatically, in the next few hours it was about 50% of what it was when I had arrived at his office. I've had 2 subsequent visits and now I'm close to pain free. Dr Liu has given me exercises to strengthen my knee which will enable my recovery.
