Apparently saying this is a kiss of death with doctors as they will think you have unhealthy thoughts as to doing it locally. It was Ego issues towards me not wanting local surgery. What ever it was, he did not take heed to my lack of bowel movements. He kept saying that I would eventually go and not to worry about it. Same answer all the time until I was, by his records, over three weeks due for a bowel movement. I was still trusting him at this point. He then said he would make sure I was taken care of by Castle Medical ER department. I was turned away from my first visit to the ER and his office said they need to schedule my surgery to save my life now. I waited at home for another 5 days calling his office every morning and afternoon wondering when I would be saved from a blocked Colon. That Friday they told me that the girl scheduling me went home and I would have to call back in three days on Monday. It was at this time that I called a friend to take me to Queens ER. I was septic checking in, as per the nurses observations. I lost so much muscle, 42 pounds as well as coordination and abilities. Completely rotting in the ICU for over two weeks while they performed five surgeries to save my life. I lost my colon. I now have a bag on my hip for life which really sucks! An obvious Malpractice. I took my case to the Medial Inquiry Conciliation Panel. This is a panel that protects doctors from frivolous cases. In all of the Attorneys quotes about them is that,'' they never rule in your favor even if it is blatant.'' The panel looked at my records and the medical expert witness said that, "Dr. Kaminskas was guilty on one piece of paper. It shows that he tested you with a constipation touch test against your stomach every time you visited. It also shows him prescribing you Opiods. If it was constipation that caused this, then he is guilty on this one paper only." A very easy case to solve. I reviewed over 500 attorneys even contacting some on the mainland. I could not get the money or the attorney so I handled my case all the way to 30 days before trial. I could not afford all the fees I was getting from the Doctors Insurance Defense attorneys whom lived up to their reputation of stopping legit cases with as much paper work and BS they can throw in the way. I will say that Dr. Kaminskas was sued every year during the time that I was chasing after my law suit to settle with him legally. I do think he is a great neurosurgeon but his office apparently can not handle his patients. I think this is where I fell through the cracks. My emergency should have been the most important business during that week alone. He left me for dead. I am lucky I saved myself from their BS process.

KPT is located on the Ewa side of Kuakini Medical Center in the heart of Downtown Honolulu. It houses 11 floors of physicians and other medical professionals. I've been here a handful of times now where I find KPT convenient as it's near my home and work office. Each floor of the parking structure has the elevator to lead you to your destination. There's no need to exit the parking elevator and then walk over to the main tower as experienced at Queens POB. Although the building may seem a bit outdated, I find KPT to be clean and easy to navigate. Signs are posted to avoid getting lost or confused. Parking rates are posted and for my recent visit, my appointment was on schedule and didn't require the full hour so there was no charge. The parking structure is connected to KPT. Overall, I find KPT to be a great building for my medical appointments and it wouldn't be an issue for me if I had to return for another appointment here.

NOTES: Covered/enclosed parking area is a plus. Stalls appear to be smaller than average; possibly compact stalls masquerading themselves as a normal/average stall. Maneuvering in the garage is challenging if you are passing a large vehicle. i.e.: I had to reverse twice after entering the garage to allow the vehicle exiting/coming down so we were able to pass each other properly. The first vehicle was a LARGE truck, while the second was a toyota camry. I drive a toyota corolla so trying to move past these vehicles was not too difficult when having the proper room to do so. There is a office directory near the elevator banks to help find the appropriate floor of the office/physician you are visiting. side NOTE: Parking with validation is $2.50. BOTTOM LINE: Convenient if visiting a physician in the tower, but use caution when driving and parking within the garage.

It all started with a slip at my part time job. Customer spilt water and my colleague mopped the…read moredining room. Didn't want the customer to slip so I took the initiative to bring the drinks to their table. I didn't know colleague mopped in front of our work station and both legs flew up as I exited the swinging door... Torn rotator cuff. After x-rays and an MRI, took some time for worker's comp to approve this procedure and the day finally came. Was given explicit instructions prior to this day and after following them, I checked in at Minimally Invasive Surgery Hawai'i (MIS), which is located on the 6F of Hale Pawa'a. MIS is state of the art surgery center which has a team of professionals who perform orthopedic, musculoskeletal care and spine care procedures. I've never experienced this before and didn't know what to expect so I found myself asking my sister, who has 30yrs experience as a registered nurse, with questions. My concerns were alleviated as I believed in professionals and their knowledge and expertise. I was informed by the office of Dr. Darryl Kan and complied with the instructions provided to me. Upon check in I had my RN sister accompany me just in case I needed clarification and to ensure a smooth process. To be frank I was somewhat concerned as there was not one other patient in the check in area. It was just my sister, myself and the staff behind the counter. I was escorted to the back where I changed into a gown and received instructions as well as the attending professional reiterated today's procedure. Once again, nerve block was explained in simpler terms where I understood. It scared me but once again I had to trust the process. When it was my turn, I was rolled into the operating room where Dr. Kan greeted me in an upbeat manner and briefed me on what's to come. This was done over 8 months ago so I don't recall what happened after except finally waking up to some noise. The nurse (?) greeted and checked up on me. I was a little groggy and she must have read my mind as I was thirsty and hungry. I was offered an array of drinks and some snacks to choose from. When I was post groggy stage, the staff called my brother in law as he was designated to pick me up as I'm not allowed to drive after my procedure. I remember presented with non-slip socks and escorted to the 1F via wheelchair. Overall, I am very pleased and satisfied with MIS as they walked me through this process that was nerve-racking from the get go. From Dr. Kan, his staff and the staff at MIS, I was treated with great care and professionalism.

My journey with painful and swollen knees after running, jogging, hiking, aerobics classes, playing…read moreracquetball, and golfing began over fifteen years ago. Still, I stubbornly, or should I say "stupidly," held out for a year before making an appointment with the orthopedic surgeon my PCP referred me to, Dr. Jay Marumoto, at Queens Medical Center. After a physical examination and imaging (X-rays and MRI) tests, it was determined that I was suffering from bilateral knee osteoarthritis and torn meniscuses. After receiving the diagnosis, Dr. Marumoto counseled me about having the surgeries performed on separate dates. Still, I chose to have both knee meniscus repairs done in one visit at the medical center's Same Day Surgery Clinic. At my follow-up, I was recovering quickly with a great range of motion and experienced minimal pain. Still, Dr. Marumoto counseled me about the osteoarthritic progression and said, "See you in about 15 years." Thirteen years had passed when I requested to see Dr. Marumoto last August, because more pain and stiffness had returned to my right knee. Still, I decided to get knee strengthening physical therapy before our May 2025 trip to Japan and Korea, before deciding on a total knee replacement. The right knee strengthening sessions went well. However, on the second day of our trip, I exacerbated my situation when I tripped on a curb and fell onto my "less affected" left knee and face-planted. Luckily, I didn't need hospitalization or emergency medical attention, so I nursed myself for the rest of our 21-day cruise with affirming thoughts of scheduling a knee replacement on my right knee after returning home from our trip. When I confirmed my desire for the total knee replacement, Dr. Marumoto suggested that instead of having the surgery done at the hospital where there is more potential for nosocomial infection, he recommended performing the Outpatient surgical procedure at Minimally Invasive Surgery of Hawai'i (MIS). MIS is located on the 6th Floor in the Hale Pawa'a Building at the corner of South Beretania and Ke'eaumoku Streets. My husband accompanied me to my 8 am check-in, where we met the friendly and cheerful receptionist, Nadine. I like the electronic check-in process and completed it within a few seconds before sitting with Nadine to confirm my identification, medical insurance coverage, HIPAA protections, and estate plans. The waiting room was chilly, but I didn't mind since I brought a light sweater and wore warm, comfortable clothes. As the morning sun brightened and warmed the clean waiting room, I cuddled in a corner and caught up on reading e-mails. Soon, John, a smiling and welcoming nurse dressed in bright red scrubs, called me to enter the pre-operative holding unit/recovery room, where he took my vitals. Another nurse, Ameika (sp?), confirmed my name, birthday, surgeon's name, and scheduled procedure while settling me into a holding area with a warm and comfy bed. Ameika set me up with IV fluids and let me relax in bed with privacy drapes drawn. I also met with the OR nurse, Jackson, and the anesthesiologist, Dr. Louis Chun. Before discussing any information, each person confirmed my name, birthday, and surgical procedure. Of course, Dr. Marumoto popped in for a few moments to greet me and, I guess, to check on my state of mind since I was excited to get this procedure done. I last remembered being transported into the surgical suite. After a restful sleep, I awoke hungry and thirsty in the recovery room. Ameika informed me that they had contacted my husband to pick me up, and she got me ready to be wheeled downstairs to the porte cochère. Before leaving the recovery room, she provided me with an Ice Man Clear Cold Therapy Unit, although I had prepared reusable ice packs or wraps at home because we don't keep ice cubes. Thanks to the comfortable, clean, well-staffed, and knowledgeable medical and nursing staff, I'm on my way to a positive outcome. Also, because I had such a wonderful experience, I'm looking forward to having my other knee replaced next year, after another planned trip abroad.

Everyone on the team is super helpful and knowledgeable. They even fit me in when all other Oahu locations were booked solid. I came here a total of 3 times, the initial visit, a refitting and again today to request extra Velcro. I feel like such a burden for having to ask for adjustments or supplies, but the staff is so caring and accommodating. They really take pride in their work, the splints are custom and do the job (I got a follow up Xray today) Thank you for all you do and keep up the amazing service! Mahalo!!

You will not find better therapists in Hawaii! I was referred to HH&RS because of severe damage to…read moremy left arm from a sports injury. After emergency surgery, a plate, seven screws, and two months in a cast, the range of motion in my wrist was less than 5 degrees. I attended appointments with a few therapists and they are all exceptional, but Eva was my main provider. She was awesome! No, rehab did not always feel enjoyable, but that is why Eva is a great therapist! She makes sure to do what is best for you and your recovery, even if, sometimes, it is not pleasant. It is easy to skip the painful exercises/methods when you are rehabbing on your own, but Eva will make you eat your vegetables. She will do what is necessary for you to heal safely, but quickly as well! I gained about 5-10 degrees range of motion each session. She also has an amazing wingman to keep the voyage towards recovery as comfortable as possible. His name is Max and he is the sweetest pup. He will spend most of your appointment by your side making sure you're okay and asking for pets. Even if my arm wasn't healing so fast the session would be worth it just to hang out with him! He, unironically, helped my recovery a ton! Thanks to her and Max, I have resumed golfing and will shortly return to the rest of the sports I have been on a 7-month hiatus from. Cannot thank Eva, Max, and HH&RS enough! Make the best decision for yourself and choose HH&RS!
