I have made some great ffriends and I love the fact that if I want to do something this weekend I have 100+ women to organise an event with! Though there are over 100 members of the group, there are only ever up to 20 on a night out, most of the time less than that. This is less daunting and makes it easier for new members to feel at home. When you become a member you can organise events yourself or just go along the ones organised by others, but you do not need to go to everything!

The Golden Hind does a decent pub meal, which you can have before a performance if you organise to get there early enough. There are plenty of open mic nights, although I've never been to one of these due to babysitting quotas!

Visited in the Summer of 2011. I sat in on a talk that Sir Richard Dearlove gave on the…read moreconflict(s) in Iraq and the role that 'secret intelligence' had in it. Indoors, it is very spacious and can accommodate up to several hundred people. There are several floors and we were offered vino after Sir Dearlove's talk. Off topic: this one doucher from UC Davis embraced the whole "Promoting free speech and the art of debating since 1815" slogan by openly challenging Sir Dearlove and his knowledge on the war in Iraq. Back to the venue: from the outside, CUS's buildings are aged but scenic -- reminiscent of the days of ye olde English times when Jack the Ripper was trolling the city streets and people walked around in knight's armor.
