Catching lizards !

We have been coming to Frandy for 7 years and we absolutely love it ! Great location on the river especially if you have children the water is calmer (aside from this year), bathrooms are decent compared to other campsites nice showers, staff is amazing we love the owner one of the main reasons we keep returning, Saturday movie night is a bonus my kiddos love it ! I would highly recommend staying at Frandy if your visiting Kern perfect walking distance to everything ! I commend the staff here especially after the floods they worked their butts off to get the camp back to normal with what they could without raising prices! Our site books out a year so we were really looking forward to our trip and unfortunately our site was ruined it's now apart of the river and the owner made sure to get us in an amazing spot to accommodate. Thank you and can't wait to come back next year!

Barn with fun Halloween decorations

Great for kids - near a quiet spot on the river. Staff are friendly and helpful. Showers are quarters. Toilets are clean and site is great for kids who have plenty of space to run around. Park wasn't full when we were there which made it great - can see how it would be busy in summer. Amazingly peaceful at night during our fall stay.

Frandy, Frandy Frandy, what can I say? I was pleasantly surprised. HUGE THING FOR ME, YOU ARE ABLE TO BOOK ONLINE, most of the other campsites don't have this availability! Every campsite has a photo of the actual campsite lot! (Major score) I do not like surprises! We were welcomed with a "drive thru" style check in where all our information was taken and wristbands were given (felt very safe) also a map along with activities that were scheduled for Saturday (meet the animals, rock painting and movie night). The staff was friendly and welcoming. Also, they have 1$ popcorn buckets for movie night!! The campground itself is all dirt. BE PREPARED FOR SAND TO FLY! Most camp grounds that I have been to are paved where cars pass, however, Frandy's is solely dirt/sand. This may not be an issue on days that are not windy. Access to the river is great, the river is clean and not too busy, plenty of people are rafting and floating. Now let's talk restrooms, there is only one building with three stalls available!!!! I wish they had at-least two, they compensated with porta potties that are located in threeother ends of the site that are just horrifying . If you are one that regularly has to go this may be an issue. Just say a prayer before entering those Porta Potties or be prepared to walk to the pretty restrooms, take your pick. All in all, it is not bad. I love how close it is to town just in case you forget something. The town itself is so cute. 100% relaxation. Pros: -large camp sites -river access -friendly staff -ice, ice cream, sun screen, chapstick, firewood etc is available to purchase at the office. -close to town Cons: - not enough actual restrooms -smelly porta potties -dirt/sand

First time Frandy and Kern River campers, the hardest part of the whole weekend was trying to get out of San Diego. When coming up from San Diego take the I-15 to the 58 just past Barstow, West on 58 to Kramer junction 395 intersection and head north on the 395 until you get to Ridgecrest/ Inyokern turn off. Follow the signs to Kernville. Frandys is well organized, easy checkin and a very friendly staff. We weren't lucky to get a full hookup site some we dry camped in our RV. Big shade trees are everywhere so it helped cool the rig. They allow small campfires if you need it, we didn't it was 97 degrees during the day. The bathrooms were very modern, clean and safe. I saw a lot of doing the tooth brush walk in the morning. The river is directly in front of the campground so remember to get up early and find your shoreline day spot. The town is a short walk or bike ride away. We had bikes so we took them everywhere. In one day he had breakfast at el Rios, beer at the Kernville saloon and dinner at the pizza barn. Plenty to see plenty to doo. The only thing is they need to spray the roads to keep the dust down.

Went camping this weekend and check in on a Thursday ( reservation made week prior) and it was good until Friday came. They were giving motor homes spots next to us tent campers( generators) . The space between sites were like 18-20' apart. Then a group of about 15 with a pittbull ( not allowed) on the restrictions, no leash ( I had a shepherd with me) Came in and I'm NOT exaggerating we were jammed in like sardines. Very unhappy and will not return back, there's lots of nicer campgrounds up there

CAMPING! Being realistic with expectations make the experience what it deserves to be. RULE NUMBER 1: IT'S CAMPING!!! YES, there's lots of dirt, yes there's porta potties that have crap in them, yes there are bugs, yes the river is loud, but it wouldn't be camping without these! (There's always hotels up the street). We were a large group. Took up camping spaces 1 through 5.... river front. Each space has a picnic table and grill (we had at least 1 grill, but brought our own as well). These spaces had tons of shady trees too. What i liked most about these spots was the central location to everything... we were close to the cove (river was raging so no one really "got in"), the river was parallel to our spaces, porta potties a couple of yards away, main showers and bathrooms close as well, front office also near by so were able to take advantage of free coffee in lobby... Firepits- you must create your own. Ice and firewood for sale on sight. If ya run out of food, there are nearby restaurants and stores... HIGHLIGHT: LAKE ISABELLA IS ABOUT A 10 MINUTE DRIVE FROM THIS CAMP! CAN'T WAIT TO COME BACK NEXT YEAR!

First time camping with the whole fam for the father's day weekend. We stayed for 4 days and 3 nights. It was a nice camping ground, clean showers (don't forget to bring quarters), close to the river and near by markets. Suggest to bring inflatables and life vest for kids that wants to play by the river. The rapids can be strong and the water is too cold to swim in. Have a fun camping!

Ask the Community - Frandy Park Campground

Anyone know if they gave grills or fire pits with grates?

I know for sure the sites with hookups had fire pits with grates as well. I'm not sure about the dry tent areas I don't think I seen any. But I do believe you can build a fire as long as you put rocks around it.

Planning a trip for late March/April. What is the best site number for this time of the year?

I see blue out house in the pictures, is that the bathroom?

They have both portable toilets all around the campground for close access and a concrete building with flush toilets and showers. The portables were clean when we were there. Same with the main bathroom with flush toilets and showers.

We were originally told it was fine for part of our group to arrive later, which we appreciated, but everything changed once we got there. The host spoke to us like we were children rather than adults (I'm almost 40 yrs old) trying to follow the rules. She kept lecturing us about policies, yet she wasn't enforcing them consistently. The real issue came when the rest of our group--who was running later than expected--was told they would have to turn around and go home because walking in with backpacks after dark would "disturb people." Mind you the River in the background mostly drowned out our conversation with her at the time. We tried to understand how this made sense when campers regularly leave for dinner or drinks and return later, but she refused to have a real conversation. Instead, she canceled the reservation on the spot and accused us of being "difficult." At that point, we were never even allowed to check in. All we wanted was clarity on the rules, because what was written and what was being enforced didn't match. It's hard to imagine enjoying this location when the campground host seems more focused on rigid control than hospitality. A little reasonableness and communication would have made all the difference. Still not clear on if my refund went through. Smh.

When we go river rafting, we mainly stay @ Headquarters or Sandy Flat Campground. This past weekend, we stayed at Sandy Flat. It was amazing. It is right off the river. Coming up here from San Diego we didn't really know what to expect other than we might have an opportunity to tube down the river. So everyone in our group brought river tubes. That was our first miscalculation. Aperently tubing depends on the season, recent weather conditions, and various natural events that really narrow the scope of when you can tube safety. Also consider how you plan to get back up to your campsite after you tube down the river a few miles.. Ideally you rent tubes from a company that also shuttles you back up the river. If you don't want to rent tubs someone in your group has to pick you up and drive you back, which is a pain. There is no cell service and no uber... The Kern River is best suited for kayaking and rafting. There are many companies in kernville that offer those services. Camping. If you're looking to camp along the river during the summer you need to think about booking in January. During our stay mid-June, the entire river was booked solid.. We stayed at Sandy Flats campgroup which had a small beach area by the river. Litter bugs. One of the most discouraging things to see along the river was the amount of trash that people leave behind. The number one item? Used diapers.. If you can manage to visit midweek, and be prepared to use a kayak/rafting company you will have an epic time. Note - Sequoia National Park is about an hours drive away. Makes for a great day trip.
