Both times, I ordered a small four-square pizza with pepperoni and black olives, and Loui's absolutely knocked it out of the park. Don't let the word "small" fool you either -- this is a seriously filling pizza. Even a hungry customer is likely to leave full, satisfied, and already thinking about the next visit. What really stood out to me was the generous amount of cheese, the substantial weight of the pizza, and that perfectly crisp crust. It's rich, hearty, and exactly the kind of pizza you hope for when you're craving something substantial. The service was fantastic on both visits as well. My servers were friendly and attentive, and I also really enjoyed the old-school interior. It has that wonderfully dated, nostalgic feel that immediately brought me back to the good old days of going out to restaurants around Detroit as a kid. To me, that atmosphere is part of the charm. If you haven't tried Loui's Pizza yet, trust me -- you're missing out. After hearing about it for years, I can definitely see why it has such a loyal following, and I'll absolutely be back.

Tonight I made it a point to leave the job at a decent hour so I could grab a pizza and kill the craving. I chose Sorrento based on Yelp reviews and when ordering discovered that apparently I had gotten a pizza from this location a year prior. I went in for pickup as they won't deliver to the area that I stay due to; dare I say it, high crime. While the area is sketchy, and I don't blame them for staying away, I have never had an issue there. Regardless, I placed a phone order and started my 30 mile drive to grab the pie and go to the house. When I arrived; the pie was waiting; and it was hot and ready to go. I threw it in the car and embarked on my 2 mile drive back to the base. When I arrived at the house, it was still warm and I brought it inside and began to devour it. The pizza was very good. Doughy crust, delicious toppings, and ample cheese and sauce. I won't lie, I ate almost an entire large by myself. I've friend several pies while in the detroit area, pizza papalis is a fave, but I don't always have time for that drive. And that's a huge deep dish Chicago style pie. You can tell from the first bite it's different. The sauce, a little sweet, a little saucy, a little bit of love, is probably one of the best marinaras I've ever had. And the cinnamon bites for desert. The smell emanating from the box made our mouths water the whole way home. And they did not disappoint. Everything was amazing. To top it off, Steve who I'm guessing is the owner, was so personable he made us feel like we've been part of the family for years. Just a genuinely good human, which is hard to find these days. To say I'll be back is an understatement. This is my forever go to as long as Steve is running the show. New customers, don't hesitate to order this pizza. Top notch. If I could give it 12 stars I would. I don't leave many reviews, but my wife Michelle and I had to leave one here. This place needs to be known. This was my first time having Detroit-style pizza in Detroit, and Buddy's absolutely lived up to the hype. Without question, it's the best Detroit-style pizza I've ever had. Every bite was like an explosion of cheesy, crispy, comforting goodness. The crust was perfectly soft and airy on the inside with those incredible caramelized cheese edges that gave every bite an amazing crunch. Just a heads-up, this isn't fast food. Since it's a thick pan pizza made fresh, expect to wait a little longer, but it's 100% worth every minute. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable about the history of the restaurant, which made the experience even better. I also had my first Michigan Mule, and it did not disappoint! From the outside, it wasn't immediately obvious where to enter, but once inside, I was blown away. The walls are packed with decades of memorabilia, articles, awards, murals, and the story of how Detroit-style pizza was born. It felt like eating in a piece of pizza history, not just another restaurant. As someone who has eaten Detroit-style pizza back home, I can already tell every future slice will be measured against Buddy's, and that's a tough standard to beat. If you want authentic Detroit-style pizza from the place that started it all, this is a must-visit. Thank you, Buddy's, for an unforgettable meal. I had plenty of questions about their pizza, like how many slices were in their square or round pizzas. He answered my questions and was not upset at all. We ordered a large square pizza with two kinds of pepperoni, a large antipasto salad, and an order of lasagna. The pizza was like eating pizza when we were kids in the 1970s. It had plenty of cheese; we didn't have to order extra! The crust was fluffy and not like a brick. The pizza sauce was perfect! It is a little sweet to counteract the natural acidic bite of the tomato. This complements the cheese and the pepperoni perfectly. The two-pepperoni combination is the best of both worlds. I love the cupped pepperoni, also old school, with the little pool of grease in the middle. The flat pepperoni is a little milder but still good. The salad was perfect. It was loaded with meat and cheese. I love the homemade Italian dressing on the side. It reminded me of the salads I made in the Italian bakery I worked at. The lasagna was one of the best I have ever eaten. It has a rich meat sauce, is stuffed with ricotta cheese, and layered between perfectly cooked lasagna noodles. It is covered with mozzarella cheese and more meat sauce. It came out of the oven lightly browned and bubbling. It comes with a breadstick too, to sop up all the leftover meat sauce. It was so filling I only ate half of it. We have ordered multiple times since then, both pick up and delivery. Ron and George are always friendly on the phone or in person.
