Javier was recommended by a neighbor and real estate agent. He came by early in the week to provide an estimate for removal of a tree and replacing with a new one. The city Public Works has me on a wait list that could take up to two years. The quote provided was reasonable and the job was scheduled for Saturday for the removal and Monday for tree planting. Surprisingly he and his brother were so efficient they were able to do the entire job within a few hours all in the same day. The tree removal was extensive with roots as large in diameter as the trunk. They were starting to lift and crack the sidewalk around it. A section of the cement sidewalk was even cut away to increase the planting area for the new Ginko tree to grow in. They came with all the proper tools and trucks to get the job done. Hauled away the old tree and soil, installed a set of 5' tall stakes around the Ginko tree for protection, and added a layer of top gravel above the 4 1/2 feet of organic soil. He also said the tree is guaranteed for 7 months if there are any problems. read more

I have been using Francisco Javier Rodriguez Landscaping for about 3 years now and have been very pleased. He is very professional and experienced as a gardener. I'm one of those people who let the weeds take over and then call him once or twice a year for a big clean up. He doesn't give you any grief about the state of your yard.... just points out what needs to be done and gets to work. Watch out... you may not see Javier or his assistants because they are hidden in the bushes, but you will see plants and weeds flying everywhere at amazing speeds. You can count on them to show up with all of the necessary gardening tools and they will leave your yard clean and tidy. They always organize the children's toys in the garden and add mulch if they have extra available. He makes sure the job is done right and takes pride in his work. I'm always so happy when they are finished because there's not a weed in sight and the bushes are trimmed and roses pruned. I can see all of my flowers and it's no longer a jungle. Javier was recommended to me by another Yelper (Poe T.). In about a day, he and his crew (including 2 of his brothers) transformed our jungle into a real backyard. They had to cut through enormous thickets of brush, thorns and weeds that have been breeding grounds for what must have been half of the spider population in San Francisco. I was really impressed with Javier's knowledge of plants (he pointed out the jasmine, lavendar, and other plants I might want to keep), the entire crew's professionalism and the care they took to not make a mess and to clean up the small mess at the end of the job. This was especially difficult in our case because they had to take everything through our apartment. Javier had his crew put everything into garbage cans and carry them up and down the stairs to the truck outside. When they left, you wouldn't have known they had been there. My two small complaints: they were a little late arriving (had to do with picking up everyone) and Javier said he would do a couple of things that didn't necessarily get passed along to his crew to complete. In the end, though, I didn't mind because they were things above and beyond what I expected him to do and it would have just been a bonus if they had gotten to it. Regardless, I would definitely recommend Javier and his crew to help clean-up or fix-up your outdoor space! read more

He came in yesterday with his crew and in about 5 hours transformed our overgrown, spider infested backyard into a place we actually want to spend time. This included removing hundred of pounds of clay pots and turning off and filling in a malfunctioning water feature. Moreover, they did a great job of cleaning up. Francisco came over the same day I called him to give me a quote, and he was right on time. He seemed very knowledgeable and knew the name/type of every bush, tree, shrub, etc, in my yard. He gave me a quote and we scheduled and appt for a week later. He and his crew showed up right on time at 730 am this morning and went to work. If I could give 10 stars, I would. I called 5 gardeners around my house and ended up getting 3 quotes for cleaning out my garden. As you can see from the pictures, we had a lot of trees and shrubs. These guys gave me the best quote. After reading how unreliable they were from yelp and him being 30 min late on the day he came to give me the quote, I was little worried about any unpredictable delay or cancellation. On the D-day, they were actually half an hour early and took them 3 hours to clean the whole thing. They actually got rid of a few more things than I asked for initially without any extra. I couldn't be more thankful. I'll definitely use them again and recommend to anyone. The only downside is he's little hard to understand when you talk to him on the phone, but it is not much better for the other gardeners around the area anyway. read more

I rarely hire contractors based on Yelp reviews, but Francisco's very high ratings convinced me to give him a try. I was not disappointed! Francisco was very responsive, prompt, and courteous. He was able to accommodate my schedule, provided a timely estimate, and completed the job quickly, efficiently, and well. The gardener that I actually hired has removed it for half the price including doing other work. He did everything in two hours. If gardeners are getting $300/hour, then I am in the wrong business. I also bought some flowers and plants from Orchard and he planted them for me. I wish that I had thought to take a before and after pic. It looks amazing! In the tightest pinch, Francisco and his diligent crew transformed my wasteland of a backyard back to respectability. Overgrowth and weeds previously dominated the landscape, along with a small tree that extended its limbs to ridiculous proportions. He looked over the virtual jungle and made recommendations for which unhealthy plants were destined to be removed due to its possible negative impact on the garden's environment. Honest, smart, hard-working and reliable! I needed a gardener to plant some shrubs and found Francisco on Yelp. I called the number on his Yelp site, he answered promptly. Francisco said he was currently working at a job site but would call back within the hour. He called back within 45- minutes; I described the project; he gave a (reasonable priced) quote over the phone; and he said he could do the job later that same day. I asked him to give me 1/2 hour heads-up before arriving. As agreed, he called before arriving and arrived promptly. He surveyed the job and immediately got to work with one helper. They removed the dead shrubs; added more soil where needed; added fertilizer to the soil; planted the new shrubs, expertly. Francisco then stepped-back and suggested that I might consider adding a border of annuals. I said it was a good suggestion, but I would only want white for the accent color. He went to his truck and offered two different types of white annuals; pretty impressive. I selected the variety and they immediately planted them. Then he added a topping of light bark; watered the new plants; cleaned-up the site completely; then, asked if I needed anything else done. He prepared the invoice in the amount agreed upon; added a nominal/reasonable sum for the annuals; I gave him a check and he left. As I wrote at the beginning, Francisco is honest, smart, hard-working and reliable! Another Yelp reviewer gave him two stars, claiming that Francisco lacked communication skills. Based on my experience, if that Yelper had a bad experience based on communication, I'm guessing the lack of communication was on her side NOT Franciscos. Don't really know what else I can add to all the other reviews....Francisco is the best. He is reliable, honest, he and his crew are so polite. Our back garden was an overgrown mess after it had been neglected for six months having been used for storage for our renovation. He came out, gave me an estimate. His crew came out on time. They worked continuously for hours, I thought, oh no, he probably underestimated. When it came time to pay, he referred to his original estimate. I felt better giving more. I asked getting on a regular schedule. When I expressed my vision of additions to the garden, he was more than happy to suggest bringing out plants he thought might work...he would place them and I could decide which ones I liked. Charm only gets you so far. They were very personable -- and initially, I was delighted with the work. After that, it was downhill. They did not show up as promised - and when they did, their work was mediocre. at best. I wanted monthly maintenance, but they never held to a schedule. They promised to do numerous tasks - new sprinkler system renovation, plant selection, etc. -- and never delivered on promises. They transplanted a healthy rose bush -- it is now moldy and dead.. One of the guys came with a blower which ruined some plantings. After they left, i had to clean up after them. A terrible experience. read more
