As my friend was not a big eater, we only ordered the main course. She had the lamb while I had the ribeye steak which was the best decision I made. Every bite I took on the piece of meat made my taste bud crying out for more! It was succulent, cooked to how it was supposed to be. I enjoyed every pieces of it and I got to try the lamb as well, and that was just amazing. I had lamb previously in Seoul and they certainly don't taste as good as this. This certainly made up the disappointment my friend and I had, missing out on our first choice. The atmosphere of the restaurant certainly feels Middle Eastern style but the service on the other hand was a disappointment. They were slow and I can sense their disappointment when we ordered only the main course. Overall, this place is worth the try!

We waited for a bit and I was wondering if they went to pick their own grapefruit..... And, well they kind of did! The manager realized that they didn't have any grapefruit juice in the house so he ran up the block to five other restaurants to get it. Wow. Really cool. I get to talking with him about types of drinks and I happened to mention that I love a good Amarro or Farnet Branca after dinner. Anyway, we order and the first dish is a safron chicken that comes out perfectly cooked. Unique dish served with a great sauce and escarole in a lemony dressing. Then we see the falafel that the other table ordered and remark that we should have ordered that too. The waiter hears us and asks if we also want to order one and we say "why not!". Along comes a perfectly made falafel Egyptian style. Meanwhile, I am still drinking greyhounds and we get our entrees. Mine is a duck risotto with an amazing lemony flavor and crispy duck. My wife had the kabab/skewers of chicken. We finish the meal and the manager remembered our conversation and had gotten a bottle of Amarro. Had a glass of that and a cappuccino to end the night. Great service food and ambiance. Five stars.

If you are looking for a quality meal served efficiently than this is a good choice. My four star rating is based on the following: Food: 4.5 stars Service/environment: 4 stars Value: 3.5 stars (207 hkd for lunch set) The lunch set includes a mezzo plate, a main, dessert and coffee or tea. It sounds like a lot but the portions are small, which is good if you don't want to take a nap at work but bad if you are really hungry. The food here is very good and is definitively one of the more authentic Mediterranean restaurants in HK. One thing to note is that If you are a first time visitor you will need to register and make a booking through their system which is a bit annoying.

Saturday dinner. Just cutting the laziness and going away from Central to dine, I looked up on…read moreEatigo and Zahrabel in Wanchai popped up with a 50% discount. And it was booked. Middle Eastern, Lebanese is a fool-proof pick always. I didn't read the fine print to realize until they told us that it was only the sharing menus for the Eatigo discount. The good part was that they didn't charge the child. You have options to select 4, 6, 8 or 10 dishes and it could be a mix and match from any sections - the hot, the cold, the entrees. We did the usual hummus, baba ganoush, falafel, their nut dip. Besides the usual, we did the Arnabit Batata b'il Tahini - which was seasoned crispy cauliflower florets and spiced potatoes in a rich tahini sauce and a Vegetarian Fousulieh - a hearty and robust Lebanese bean stew, served with Lebanese rice. The hummus, baba ganoush and their nut dip were all good. Their falafels - which they only got two - were probably the best-tasting falafels in Hong Kong and one of the best I've eaten, ever. The aromatics were better than any I've had. My only question to the restaurant or the hospitality industry here - I understand you're portioning it for two, which means one for each (which by default wasn't enough), but you know there's a kid on the table. Would it break your bank if you served three pieces of falafels instead of two? I'm a fan of well seasoned foods, extra seasoned foods, but the Arnabit Batata b'il Tahini felt a bit too much for me. Or that, sided with labne or cacik might've made it perfect by cutting through the herbs and spices of the cauliflower and the potatoes. The bean stew was primarily red and light brown kidney beans. Seasoned to perfection. The rice and vermicelli could've been a bit more crunchier, but no complains there. Overall, the portions were quite little, I thought. But I the flavours were spot on. The presentations were great! Coffee or tea and mini desserts are included in the tasting menu and they were great too. Especially that muddy, spiced coffee. My arak based cocktail was cloyingly sweet with the date syrup. I'm not sure if they used too much of the syrup or paired it with the sweeter version of the arak, but it was too sweet for me. And I don't say that often. But if there's anything anise based, I got to have it. Kesak! :) Photos on the blog - thevegetarianvoyager

Compared to the rest of the neighboring western spots, it feels like an easy going spot to enjoy drinks and a vegetarian friendly menu. It is quite loungey at The Nile (as was its predecessor, The Wheel). So much to the point where I've drank here much more often than I've sampled food. The small puffer seats and smallish tables are better for drinks than platters of food. When the AC is on blast, it feels so cool and comfy that I could see myself nodding off here in the late night hours. The food won't knock anyone's socks off. I've had better meat platters (kofta, rack of lamb, merguez sausages, etc.) elsewhere and for a lot less price wise. For a few platters and a drink, one could probably end up in the $300+ per person range (#1). The Nile may serve to be a better date venue than a casual, "let's just get together and snack" kind of place, and I would steer clear of any groups beyond 6-8 people. Service is always going to be outlier at places like this, though I've often believed the higher the price point, the better the service should be. It's been a mixed bag for all of my experiences and as a result, I can't give it better than 3 stars. I'm in Soho often enough to where I'd see myself coming back again and hopefully by then, The Nile (as opposed to Denial) will have improved. ______________ (#1) That Hollywood Road rent is no joke I'm sure.

We had their 4 person set meal which allows you to pick two cold appetizers, two hot appetizers, 3 main dishes, 4 soups and 4 drinks for $540. For our cold appetizers, we picked their hummus and eggplant dip. Both came with flat bread (think more tortilla than pita), and both kept us going back for more. For our hot appetizers, we picked eggplants and falafels. The eggplants were perfectly cooked and not mushy. The falafels didn't feel greasy and didn't have that old oil taste. They were mouthfuls of heaven. Our main dishes included beef with potatoes and tomatoes sauce, mutton shawerma with tahini sauce, and sheesh taook with garlic sauce (chicken). All of the main dishes allowed you to pick either rice or criss cut fries. We picked rice for all 3 dishes. The beef tasted really fresh; the chicken was well seasoned and juicy; and the mutton perfectly cooked. The garlic sauce that comes with the chicken is made fresh and was to die for. I also really appreciated the good service. They servers would talk to us, offer us more bread and sauces, and didn't rush us to leave. It was a leisurely paced dinner where we able to catch up with friends, rare in Hong Kong. I found myself in here after a friend suggested we grab dinner. It's been years since I had Egyptian food, so I thought why not. It would be nice to reminisce of the wonderful Egyptian restaurants in town of my childhood. I'm pleased to say that this place delivered on that in addition to blowing my mind from how great all of it was. I shared a Hallomi (grilled goat cheese [not a sandwich]), the zabadi (a cucumber yogurt dip similar to Tzatziki, but noticeably thicker), the mixed grill and an Okra Tagine, with a Kounafa to top it off. For those who fear the goat ones of goat cheese, dear not for the hallomi is very mild, yet fragrant in its own way. It's very creamy, yet chewy, and for a few bites, we could've sworn it was mozzarella until we started paying more attention to the bouquet of fragrances, and the characteristically dry-ish texture of goat cheese. The zabadi was a very rich dip, which while typically served with pita bread oddly enough also went fantastically with the tagine and the mixed grill. The mixed grill was also very good, it comes with a rice that does go really nicely with their tender lamb kofta, though frankly, I think the rest of the dish goes better with their side salad. Maybe it's because the kofta is so rich. Being a massive fan of okra, I badgered my friend into ordering the okra tagine. Since he's a bit of a die hard meat eater, we eventually settled for the beef and okra tagine, though I ultimately won anyway, seeing as most of it was okra. The tagine was served with couscous, which worked out very nicely since they also had a very rich and somewhat meaty and beautifully seasoned sauce. The kounafa was an order that stemmed more from curiosity than anything, and while it was pretty good, I'm still not too sure what to think of it. It's crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside. It's sweet and clearly not lacking in complexity, but I might not order it again. This place is usually busy, and now I know why. So long as I'm in Hong Kong, I'll most likely visit again, theres so many other potentially delicious dishes for me to check out!
