Sisterlock Installation was a pleasant experience. Frances was very easy to work with. Every interaction I had with her from my initial consultation to my first wash went smoothly. She was thorough in what the process entails, honest and forthcoming with pricing and my decision to move forward with getting these locs. Everything I researched about Sisterloc, the process and how to find a consultant, she did everything by the book. It took a total of 24 hours in the span of three days to it, but Frances was so personable, our conversations went by on so much that the time didn't phase me. I personally did not feel any discomfort when getting them install, my scalp was just a bit itchy after she completed a bug section, other than that, I was very pleased with my experience with her. I was very impressed in the fact that she did not at all pressure me in anyway to schedule my appointment to install them right away let alone hire her to do my locs. These things unfortunately do happen industry-wise, so it's always best to have a back-up. I quickly searched my contacts and called not one, but two other viable options and neither had any immediate availability. 'Oh brother...Okay Pat, take a deep breath...Don't panic!' Then I recall bookmarking a natural black hair salon some many months ago that had nothing but five star reviews. I searched my bookmarks and quickly located Frances' Hair Studio. I called to check her availability and as luck would have it she had availability within an hour and a half. Phew!! That's practically an available walk-in appointment. I arrived on time, early in fact, and was greeted friendly by everyone including the customers. Plus, the environment looked clean and well organized. Good start. Frances' process of working between myself and another client seemed effortless. I have been natural for years. And after a thorough shampoo, conditioner and light blowout, and a much needed trimming of my ends, Ms. Frances showed me the extent of my hair growth that reached past my shoulders. I really wasn't looking forward to a few hours at the salon to get my children's hair done as we were going on a trip for the summer. As my children's hair was being done, Ms. Francis was handling another client and she was very friendly. Two young ladies were available. One did my daughter's hair and the other my son's hair. Francis and the two young ladies were fabulous. The young lady that did my daughter's hair was quick and for the most part the process was painless for my 11 year old daughter. I can't say the same thing for my 7 year old son. He was crying almost from the beginning. His hairstylist, along with the other young lady, and Ms. Francis were encouraging my son telling him that he was doing a great job. After his hair was done, he was grateful. I was grateful as well. Not only because it was over, but because the vibes in the salon were amazing. The young ladies and Ms. Francis made small talk to make my children and I feel comfortable. Prior to my appointment, I was asked to show samples of what I would like done for my children's hair which I appreciated. I was also informed that I could wash my children's hair prior to coming in and it would cost less; which I did and they got right to business. I very much appreciated that as well. My rating is not based on the quality of work, but of the ethics of the business. The girl who did my daughter's hair did a fantastic job. My poor rating is based on being charged more than what I was quoted. Prior to my appointment, I was asked to send a photo of my daughter's hair braided. I was given a quote based on the picture and a few questions I was asked. Upon arriving, they confirmed it was medium braids, just like the photo I sent. My husband came for the 2nd half fthe appointment and paid at the end. We were charged $80 more than what I was quoted! When he spoke up, the owner claimed the photo I sent showed her hair at shoulder length, the mid back costs more. I'm attaching the photo (blue hair) to show that the original pic I sent was almost the same as what they had done. And furthermore, the braid size they did was bigger than the photo I sent. And the bottom of her braids are knotted off, leaving an extra 5 inches of unbraided hair. So for me to be charged $80 more for less braids and same length is unacceptable. The decision in price change should have been stated when we arrived. read more

I haven't been here in such a long time because I changed my hair routine but I always remembered my experience and spoke of it often. Frances is a natural hair specialist, she offers treatments and she's gentle; listening to the needs of her clients. Her prices are extremely reasonable and her shop is very clean. I first came here when I started transitioning back to natural. My sister-in-law told me about Frances; she used to frequent the salon when she lived and worked in Westchester. I remember making an appointment and when I arrived, Frances braided some cornrows for me of which, none hurt. It was a completely painless process. After that visit, I started doing my own hair, having a friend braid it for me. Recently, I was in need of cornrows for a new style and my friend was unable to continue braiding my hair, so I stopped by France's shop to make sure she was still opened. I was very happy to know she was and promptly made an appointment for a couple days after, first thing. The day of my appointment, I was running late because we had an unusual snow storm so I called and she was understanding and it wasn't even a big deal because I live about a five minute drive away from the shop so it is SUPER convenient. She knocked out my hair in less time than it normally takes and she even cost less than I used to pay to have it done....WINNING! Frances also offers natural skincare products that her sister, Shari, makes from scratch! She informed me that they host showcases so that customers can sample products and place orders from Shari's Ayari Naturals All Natural Skincare Products. I found a little gem after living in Yonkers for 16 years. I was going to a regular hairdresser for years, until she moved. But she didn't even provide all the services for African American hair. It was so refreshing going to see Frances, after reading about her on Yelp. My hair is very delicate and breaks off easy, but as soon as Frances felt it, she knew how to handle it. For the first time in this area, I was able to get washed, conditioned, and BRAIDED at the same location!! I proposed a date she replied she didn't work on Sundays. So I proposed Saturday... it's been two days with no reply. I went In for a simple 2 braids with extensions. Ms. Frances' was amazing!! I'm new to the whole added hair process and had no idea what hair I needed or anything. My locs were a mess - a lot of new growth and my hair and scalp was dry from the winter climate. I got a wash, retwist, and hot oil treatment.
