    Ricotta fritter
    Julie L.

This busy, spacious cafe is a little understaffed but the food is great. Our waitress took our coffee orders when we were seated, then our food orders when she delivered our coffee, then patently ignored us, even when i was trying to get her attention, for the 35-40 minutes we waited for our food. She was very nice but a terrible waitress. Also cafes, you're busy, we get it- but if there's going to be a long wait your customers will be a lot more forgiving if you let them know that straight up. GREAT coffee and really good food: my mushrooms and ricotta fritter on "pea fondue" was unlike anything I've had before. The fritter was almost bread-like with a hole in the middle, reminiscent of a South Indian vada. The fondue (puree) was divine and reminded me how underrated peas are! My friend had an amazing looking carnivore breakfast with honeyed bacon. There's nothing standard on this menu. I wanted another coffee but eventually gave up trying to wave the waitress down.

Foxtrot Charlie, cute name for a cafe and I'm sure there's a great story behind it. It's not easy to spot if you are driving past and Even walking past, I have only recently noticed the cafe. From Outside it looks quite subtle and spacious. Inside you can see a model plane hanging off the ceiling. Concrete wall and hardware type modern lighting around. There's another space at the back of the cafe and it looks very interesting. It's a light and bright cafe that is also low key and modern. I tried the spiced leek fritters -delicious but I would like more crunch. The broadbeans are delicious addition. The potato rosti - yummy yummy. However one slice of spicy Sicilian sausage only in this dish. Delicious but i expected more for the price. I look to the side, a lady had eggs with side of bacon and there's lots of bacon!!! I don't know how serving sizes are generally but our dishes were just missing something. Whether it's bigger portion or flavour? I don't know but we finished our meal feeling 'I can still eat something else' What I like is flavour combination ,the dishes seem to have extra element that's underused in other cafes - just not enough of it. I will visit again if in the area to try other items and review my review.

    Gorgeous decor!!

Cute decor but I'm not happy with the coffee. Ordered the long black and it tasted bitter like cleaning fluid. The food was ok - ordered their pulled pork sandwich. Generous serving size. Gluten free options available. Good service. Not sure I'll be back though after the bad coffee experience.

I was wondering why such a popular spot would be so isolated? But all is well worth the effort to get here. The venue is brimming with natural lighting, classic charm and warmth. For my breakfast, I ordered the Pixelated avocado (on a sourdough toast) because it just looked so darn intriguing. I didn't expect anything else to be honest, and turned out this was GOOD!! Every single element in this dish has complex flavors that compliments each other. The chili dried air kale, diced pixelated avocado and the soft shell crab was especially stunning. The dish certainly performs to its Instagram ability. For my drink, I ordered their matcha latte; it was strong tasting yet smooth. I could drink this all day! The Light Years is certainly not disappointing in any way, from the beautiful venue to the outstanding food, supported with service and ambiance for days. Easily, my favorite brunch spot in town at the moment and much to recommend you :).

Recently opened at the bottom of a new apartment block just along from the Camberwell tram depot, it should not be confused with Lights in the Attic cafe which is a bit further down Camberwell Road. The fit out is the now common scandi/minimalist affair with a smattering of potted greenery. Coffee is from Dukes, but the star of the show here is the food. All the dishes I saw coming out looked great and were good sized portions. I had the bircher and it was a generous serve, looked pretty and tasted even better. Overall a good value and tasty option for brunch/lunch in the leafy inner east.

Wrong, wrong, wrong. This is a meat-heavy place, big time. They only have two vegetarian dishes: palak paneer (contains dairy) and dal mash (which I confirmed was vegan, so I ordered it. It's kinda like the Indian yellow lentil curry but the lentils themselves were different -- definitely smaller -- and the flavours were a bit different). Also, the food here is CRAZY spicy. My boyfriend is not super-wild about spicy food so he requested the lowest level of spice on his dish (the lamb korma). But it was still way too spicy for him, to the point where he had to basically drown his food in the yoghurt sauce just to make it palatable. As for me, I like spicy foods so I was fine -- but even I could tell it was crazy spicy. So yeah. If you don't like spicy, maybe give this place a miss. Other than that, though, the flavours here are nice, and GEEZ the portion sizes are huge. The dishes are all in the $10-13 range and you get enough food to feed a small army. This place is really, really amazing value for money. Service was hit and miss. Both Pakistani guys, one who was sullen and uncommunicative, and another who was super smiley and friendly and cheerful. Atmosphere-wise, the place is odd, with super-bright lighting and harsh white walls with a few pieces of art (Arabic calligraphy, etc). The tables are a little rickety and oddly configured, and the place has a bit of vibe where you wonder how clean the kitchen REALLY is, but honestly for the price it's not bad at all. Definitely worth a visit if you want to try Pakistani food and can handle your spicy. I just wish they had more vegan options (much less vegetarian options!)

(Tawa fry kebabs & Paki style Paratha rolls) 2. The food was priced well: Biryani $10, Butter Chicken $12, Garlic Naan $2.50, Chicken Tikka $15.99, Chappli Kebab $12 3. The Butter Chicken was dry. It tasted like it was overcooked and definitely not cooked in a tandoori oven, more like plain chicken pieces were tossed in a butter sauce. The chappli kebabs were the best part of the meal, they were like wraps, and can easily fill up a person. What really threw me off was the shame that the butter chicken was overcooked and dry. The service was not great. We had a large group, and had to wave over a waiter for service. They did not look pleased to have people sitting and eating at their restaurant. It's open late, so I guess that's good for you late night eaters. All of their meat is Halal.

I love the sense of space from the wonderfully high ceilings. The front area under the umbrellas looks appealing too mixed in amongst the greenery. Unfortunately my visit went down hill from there .. I got quickly given a bottle of water .. but no cup to drink it in. Is drinking out of the bottle a thing now? Well this is Brunswick .. I got up and grabbed myself a glass. Coffee was a good temperature .. nice and hot! Though I felt a touch bitter. The menu had some interesting options on it. I decided to go with the Middle Eastern Breakfast (Poached eggs, grilled zaatar flat bread, beetroot relish, felafel, baba ganoush). It arrived in good time. Yet the poached eggs were undercooked, I pierced the egg and the yolks ran all over the plate like a burst dam. The beetroot didn't seem to belong .. it's flavour stuck out and overpowered. Zaatar spices were tasty but would've liked a crispier texture. An unpleasant aftertaste permeated too .. all in all disappointing. Service a bit mixed, some staff were friendly, others a bit cold. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing.. or perhaps my expectations sky rocketed when I saw the amazing premises. Regardless I doubt I will be back. I got the arancini balls. It came with 4 balls on top of dry mixed salad leaves and pesto on the side. The pesto and rice balls were amazing. The salad was sad and dry. A little dressing and this dish would of been a star! My partner on the other hand had the lamb cous cous salad. Perfectly cooked and fantastic flavours! Not a complaint. Our juices were fresh and large which was a nice change. The service was 5 star! We sat outside as it was a beautiful day. Unfortunately after we ordered a rather rude and loud couple sat next to us and started smoking. We asked to move inside and without question everything was picked up and moved with a smile! Outside is fantastic and great for groups. If you want a quieter meal just find a 2 seater off to the side. Mixed review but I think it depends on your choice of meal.

The felafel are made fresh to order and you can have three of these plump, hot, gently spiced babies stuffed in a pita bread with a combination of vegetarian items. There's six options to choose from, but why you'd get anything other than the "Half Moon" with chilli sauce I don't know. Think crispy felafels, salad, olives, pickles, hummus... wrapped in a warm pita and weighing almost the size of a small child. This whole thing will set you back a mere $8. Other than the fact that the food here is delicious and cheap, the owners and staff are really what make this a worthy experience worth crossing town for. Run by a family for the last 12 years, they're super lovely and really care about their customers. The "father" is so kind and will make a point of walking around the tables outside to check that his customers are happy, that they have enough napkins and that they're looked after. I love chatting to him and if I time my lunch break right I might be able to sit with him while he has his lunch break in the late afternoon. Customer service doesn't cost anything, yet there's not many places that get it right or enjoy it as this family does. 5 stars.

We arrived one busy lunchtime, and joined the line of people ordering kebabs. I went for the eponymous Half Moon sandwich, which was with falafels and salad. The woman taking our order at the counter asked us to take a table outside and the other would be brought out to us. I thought she was clever to be able to remember which order went where without any table numbers or tickets. It turned out she didn't have a clue, and our order was bounced around between 4 different tables before it was given to me. At one point, she even gave the order to me, then took it away, and then returned to hand it to me again! The sandwich itself was good value at $8, but no where near as large as others have suggested. I finished it without a problem, and I wouldn't consider myself to have a bigger appetite than most guys. The salad and sauce was nice, but the falafels were ordinary. I'd have preferred them to be crunchier on the outside and soft inside. The other disappointment was that they used packet pita bread rather than baking their own, as any proper restaurant in the middle east would do. Even so, if I were in Coburg again, I would return to Half Moon Cafe for lunch.
