The decor varies and I am sure there is a cabin that will suit you, several have gas fire places, and each cabin that I have stayed in has had a very comfy bed. There are full size refrigerators and a microwave too. There are BBQ grills there for easy grilling and picnic tables too. There is a State Park adjacent to the cabins that offers great fishing, hiking and exploring. I truly believe that this place is the Best place to stay in Southern Iowa. They offered us working guys a great rate when the other motels in that area wanted an arm and a leg for a basic room that doesn't come close to the cabins. If you are ever going to be in Southern Iowa, make your reservations early. This place fills up and for good reason. I hope to return next week and update this review with several pictures.

The room included a full kitchen and bathroom which made it nice for us to be able to cook some home made meals on the road . I highly recommend for any size party. The business is family owned and ran and they couldn't be nicer! Very accommodating and were available for a late night/ early morning check in/out. Give them a try if you're in the area

We arrived late at night and our car ended up breaking down upon arrival. The owners were amazing - helped us to have a mechanic look at the vehicle. Totally went above and beyond to help us and make sure we were all set to be on our way the next day. Our site was just beautiful and private. They all have a place to make a fire. There are endless little walks and trails. For just 5$ you can add firewood to your stay. We loved it so much that we are going back next week. The experience is so different from the larger and more commercial, crowded campgrounds we have experienced in the past. Stay here and you will love it!!

I went and ask for refund she proceeds to tell me that there will be a $50 fee to return my money and it should take 5-7 business days. Then I wake up to a text several days later stating that Shady Brooks will not be giving me a refund.. Also when I paid for a month she added sales tax . Who does that at a campground because everyone I've been to the tax is already included. They are just scamming left and right at that campground! This is what she sent me: Hi Andrew, this is Dena with Shadybrook Camping. I just wanted to let you know that you will not be getting a refund due to our very strict cancellation policies, and the fact that your camper fit just fine in your site. Or we could have put you in a different site. Our policies are on our website, if you want to look at them. Sorry for the inconvenience. Thanks. This woman never came out to the campground site so she has no idea how we wouldn't fit there or in any of them to park 44ft fifth wheel with a deck that opens more less park two vehicles, and a enclosed trailer!

The rooms are spacious and charming; the fridge and pantry are generously well-stocked; the living room and game room are large and make the stay unique and special. It is a mansion home away from home. Across the street is a three mile hilly woodland trail (behind the Art Museum and rose garden). The neighborhood us safe and beautiful. Highly recommend for both business and leisure travel. Seven large bedrooms can accommodate a group. Please note: The only negative reviews that keep this from being five star was many years ago under prior owners. I was here at that time and had a very positive experience during my stay, though the family/owners were dealing with very difficult health challenges. The atmosphere in the home is five star now.

We highly recommend the Butler House on Grand for a getaway for two or for a group of friends!

I have taken excellent workshops in natural dyes, papermaking, botanical printing on fabric and paper and more. All are well-taught and it is satisfying to take home the finished products. The open studios are fun. Everyone brings their own projects and a snack but we mostly end up sharing with other artists about our craft, whether it be hand spinning from raw wool, pattern making, needle and wet felting, knitting, fabric dyes and printing, etc. One of these days I would like to participate in a willow event to make wreaths, baskets, garden art, etc. I have scheduled private retreats with friends or by myself and stayed in the guest rooms and the cabins. It is very peaceful with the sheep milling around. There is a campground for those who prefer to bring their own bed. If you are intimidated by being in a class with others, schedule a private class to get started. Anna is an excellent teacher or has resources for others who teach what you want to learn.
