I'm not a wealthy person and I strive for quality at the best price possible. Recently I lost a 2 carat natural diamond from my wedding ring. I replaced it with a fabulous, spectacular-looking lab-grown diamond after spending hours vetting stones and discussing the process with experts. I bought the stone from an online wholesaler and got an incredible deal. We're relatively new to this area, and I worked with an excellent jeweler in Lincoln City a couple of years ago. The work was outstanding but the customer service was meh. I wanted to try someplace else. My husband went to SJ to sell some gold and liked Stewart, the owner. We decided to use SJ to restructure and rebuild my ring with the new stone. Not a huge project but highly significant in my 25 year marriage. Our first meeting with Stewart was good. I liked him, he was engaging, and I hoped I could build a relationship with him as I had with the guy who did all our work when we lived in CA. Stewart told me the ring would take 4 weeks. I didn't question it. Fast forward four weeks. Stewart called me and said his jeweler had gone on vacation and it was going to take longer. Fine. No problem. Good things are worth waiting for, right? I decided to pay the bill at that time and did it electronically with Stewart directly. It was nearly a thousand dollars. Stewart told me he was personally going to pick my ring up from the jeweler, that it was done, and he'd have it ready the following Monday. We called Monday. When I spoke to the nice young woman on the phone, she told me Stewart wasn't in and she knew nothing about the ring. Hmmm. We requested a call back which came the following day. Stewart told me he had an "old, slow" jeweler and the ring wasn't done. He then said I could pick it up at his Florence store the next day by 11. Hubby called before we made the 60 mile round trip. He was told the ring was done and to come get it. We drove down at noon. We walked in and saw Stewart and his employee chatting. No one greeted us, and we waited about five minutes before anyone spoke to us. Oops. Ring is not done. Sorry! Come back in 45 minutes. I had a bunch of people coming for the holiday. To say I was on a tight schedule would be to put it mildly. Nonetheless, we went, had lunch and came back in an hour and a half. Ring was not done. No one even acknowledged our presence, and we waited while Stewart spent 20 minutes with another several customers. I was getting heated by this point. By the time we left, which was 4 hours after we were told the ring was done, I had no desire to work with Stewart again. We paid for an appraisal and I had to remind him to do it. We waited for that too. He then told me I owed him the sum I'd already paid to him, on the phone three days before. When I reminded him of that, he hesitated and then said "Oh. That was you?" Like he had no clue who I was. I hate having my time wasted in a customer service setting--in any customer service encounter, really--but particularly when I know I'll have a decent amount of business in the future and that I'm an excellent referring client. Also this was a big deal for us. Obviously not to Stewart. We had another ring resized and cleaned etc. at the same time as I dropped off my wedding ring. Although I was told the ring was ready, it was not at the Florence store when we went to pick it up with my wedding ring. It was included in the money I paid in advance. Stewart told me that he'd left it at the Newport store. Several days later I came to the Newport store (40 mile round trip) and guess what? It wasn't there either. All told, I tried to get my second ring four times before it was eventually located. Of course, I was told by the clueless salespeople that I owed 144.00 for the work. Unbelievable. I will NEVER patronize SJ Custom Jeweler's again. It's ironic that when you look at their site they claim to "LOVE" their customers. Yeah. No. I've struggled to understand the behavior, and I conclude they deal with a lot of seniors. As a rule, we can be a vulnerable demographic with more money. I hate to think a small business would exploit that.

First he has us look through the shop and select the patterns and colors we each liked. Then he works either each person individually, getting an understanding of our vision and explaining the overall process. He explains each step and talks you through it, constantly reassuring, complimenting, even celebrating how you do. He keeps checking our understanding or gently "correcting" by saying things like "great job with that, now this time, try to..." And as you move through the process, he is there every minute, every moment, every step of the way, and making sure he is helping us make our vision in glass! With each of our visions different, the pieces we made were unique. I wanted the bits of color to remain a bit of texture (like a piece I'd found in the shop), with an open hole in the ball for filling with agates, and a clear "window" for seeing the rocks inside. Jeff was amenable to leaving the open hole (which I plan to plug with a large cork) and the "clear window" worked! It was a special family activity and an experience we're sure to remember. Of course we've got the glass bowls and balls in case we need a reminder! Sure the glass molding and blowing was fun, but honestly, I can't imagine a better instructor and coach than what we experienced with Jeff!!!! Highly recommend it!!!

We came here as a family of 4 with two kids being 12 and 9. The man showing us and teaching us was the best. Worked nice and slow with the kids making sure they were comfortable and had a good time and were safe. We all had so much fun. One of the best things to do at the coast. I want to come do it again and again. This is the place to come if you're wanting to try glass work. This place is worth supporting just give it a try. You will be in love.

That being said, this is a wonderful little shop. It's packed full of stuff and is nicely organized so it's easy to find what you're looking for -- jeans, purse, shoes, belt, jacket, dress, blouse, etc. There are new and used items and everything here is in really good shape. Like new. The owner is a savvy business woman and a busy one! Four people came in while I was there to sell or consign goods. The owner was having a sale and knew where everything was. She is extremely helpful even while processing a lot of new items. I walked out with a cool blouse, skinny black jeans and a gorgeous purse. I had about an hour to kill in between things so this was a perfect way to spend the time. I learned that New 4 You kind of specializes in formal wear. They have a a huge selection of dresses. Cocktail dresses, prom dresses, party dresses and wedding gowns. What a great idea! Worn once, you can get a beautiful dress at a fraction of the price it would cost new. There is a good selection of everything else too but with a lot less to sift through than a giant Goodwill and everything is clean and very presentable. Two thumbs up.
