Everything! The car was dirty and the managers special was a Versa. They hold $500 and are in no hurry to return. The shuttle is also slow with long waits! read more

I would not rent from this company again. The rental process was frustrating from start to finish. Instead of being located at the airport rental car center, this company is off-site, which meant taking an additional shuttle while all the major rental companies were conveniently located at the airport. After a long day of travel, that was an unnecessary inconvenience. When we arrived, the office was essentially a trailer, and the vehicles were noticeably lower quality than what you'd expect from the major rental agencies. Our car had dirty floor mats and existing damage that had to be documented before we could leave. The biggest issue was the payment process. I had originally reserved the vehicle through a third-party site, but because my original credit card had been stolen and replaced, they would not work with me to resolve the issue easily. I was forced to use a different credit card, which was particularly frustrating because I specifically use my American Express for the rental car insurance coverage. I ended up having to go back inside the office four separate times before everything was finally sorted out. The check engine light came on 5 minutes after we left. Overall, the combination of the off-site location, poor-quality vehicle, dirty interior, existing damage, and cumbersome check-in process made this one of the worst rental car experiences I've had. I would recommend paying a little more to rent from one of the major companies located directly at the airport. Note: the shuttle driver man was great though. Very nice. read more

Very disappointing experience -- disputed insurance charge I rented a car from Fox Rent A Car, and I am extremely disappointed with how my billing was handled. Fox charged a deposit but only refunded a portion. When I called customer service at 310-342-5155, I was told by Jo D. that the reminder was for Rental Liability Protection/insurance. The problem is that I had already purchased insurance through Expedia when I made my reservation. I specifically showed the representative at the Fox counter that I had already paid for insurance through Expedia and told them that I did not want or need additional insurance from Fox. I am now being told that Fox nevertheless charged me for its own liability coverage. That is an extremely serious billing issue. I did not knowingly authorize this additional insurance charge. The handling of my complaint was also very poor. Jo D. was rude and unhelpful when I called to try to resolve the issue. I hope Fox investigates this properly and returns the money rather than forcing customers to fight over charges for coverage they specifically declined. read more

I paid through Expedia then they put $800+ on my credit card. They nickel and dime you and before you know it it's costing another 2x what expedia said it would. I was told I could let them fill the car with gas at 3.84/gal but it would cost me $74+. The vehicle which is not what I chose on Expedia had a 10 gallon gas tank, why would i let them charge an astronomical fee??. I left it with a full tank and they still charged me $24 for gas and of course you can talk to someone M-F 8-5 only. The car was smaller than I chose on Expedia, it was dirty, had salt stains on the seats from either sweat or the beach. It was basically a clown-car. The extra charges were ridiculous! Its too bad, last year I was happy with them, this year...not so much. I will not be renting from them again nor will i be using Expedia, I'll rent directly through a major company as well as airline. read more

DO NOT RENT FROM FOX, ESPECIALLY IN FT MEYERS FLORIDA!!!!. Make sure that if you are going through Priceline or whatever- make sure to check to see if they are using Fox Rental. To be honest- I had never heard of them. I did a quick google search and found that they were a national company and decided "they must be a good company to work with." Nope. So FAR from the truth. You will want to avoid them at all costs BUT- if You are flying into Ft. Meyers- and you happen to rent from this outfit... The rental place is not on property. You have to take a shuttle. They have hours posted on their web page, but they do not abide by them. So- get this.... My wife and Son were going down there. I made all the arrangements, so I suppose, this is my own fault for not reading reviews. I called the corporate office and requested that the car be put in my wife's name. They said "no problem." In fact, they even talked to my wife and approved it. Great!!! Nope. They got there late and couldn't get the car. Ok- they knew that my wife was getting in late. Ok? So- their website said that they opened at 6am. My wife made arrangements with the hotel to get her their at 6am. Nope. Closed. She then had to leave and go back at 7am. They then find it open. This is when things get fun. My wife said the place is pretty run down and the cars are questionable. So.... They had the "privilege" to work with a person named "Angel." Even though I had called Fox Corporate and got everything squared away - 'Angel' was going to deny my wife the car because I am the one who rented it. My wife explained that I had called in and made the arrangement. Angel said "he probably called Priceline." My wife then explained that I called Fox Corporate. Her answer? Well - they didn't tell us. THEN... she said "I will let it go this one time." What? I'm sure I'm forgetting some details, but I also think I'm painting a REALLY good picture. So, my wife asks about insurance. Fox Insurance $160. Great. She gets the keys and goes out and finds a Nissan Versa. A compact car. I had rented a mid sized sedan. My wife asked Angel about this and she said "Oh- because you didn't get here on time, I had to give it to someone else." I wish my wife would have called me at that point - but, she was too flustered. Here's the problem with that reasoning. They closed at 12am, they supposedly knew she was getting in late, and they opened 1 full hour later than what was on their website. HOW did that car be given to another. The Bigger Question is - Was there only ONE mid sized Sedan on the lot? So They also made my wife pay for toll bridge fees, $25 a day. Guess how many toll bridges they crossed? Zero. It's a stupid scam. My wife ended up getting that money credited back. Taking the car back was easy because they worked with someone else. Either way - DO NOT RENT FROM THEM, ESPECIALLY IN FT MEYERS FLORIDA!!!!! Oh - I almost forgot. I called them today because I wanted to get credited for the downgraded vehicle size. There's no number to their desk, so you have to talk to Corporate. They wouldn't let me do anything without the Driver's approval. huh? The CC is in my name. Are you pickin up what I'm puttin down? I rented it, put it in her name via corporate. When she tried to pick it up, they almost didn't give her a car because I am the one who rented it. Then- when I call them up, to try and get a credit- they need authorization from my wife. OUTSTANDING!!!! that's me yelling sarcastically. It's like nobody is actually entering data into a PC or that Data isn't going into a Database and it isn't accessible by anyone.... So- given how shady of an experience my wife had, she was nervous the entire trip about scratching the vehicle because she knew they would charge a huge amount. We are closely monitoring our CCs to make sure they don't try to charge us for any BS. Did I mention - DO NOT RENT FROM FOX, ESPECIALLY IN FT MEYERS? I was just reading through the rest and noticed that Fox Corporate adds comments to some. So- they see these. I think they need to take some time and reflect on what their company stands for. Because- I don't know how many times I've seen the word "Scam." Is that what you want to be known for, Fox Rentals? Do Better. UPDATE: Talked with customer service. For the downgrade, they offered credit towards our Next Rental with Fox Cars! I laughed so hard I had to set the phone down. Ultimately, they gave us a $5 Refund. Not $5 per day, $5 flat. Hoooray!!!!! read more

Just terrible from the start!! We landed and got to the lot at about 10:30pm after walking pretty far and getting on a shuttle to get there. When we got there, the parking lot was very sketchy with little lighting, and the "building" was a single wide trailer looking thing. The lady inside was very good at saying she was doing everything she could to get us a good deal, but she very clearly was not. Nice enough, but you could tell she was trying to get as much money out of you as possible. We booked a wildcard rental, and they wanted to stick us in a crappy nissan WITHOUT POWER WINDOWS and NO KEY FOB... just a single key you put in the door! She said that we booked an economy wildcard (which was not true) and that's what we get. Then tried to get us to pay $140 more to get a "nicer car with power windows". I fought her on it for a while and she finally gave us a car with power windows without paying the extra fees. She sent us out to get our car alone without a key fob... there were two of the same exact car and we had to go physically put keys in each of them to figure out which one was ours. She also stated that they had already looked it over for any blemishes and that it was clean and ready to go. We walked around our car in the dark, and thankfully my husband found a blemish on it! Don't worry, they also charge you out the BUTT if you hit any tolls around Fort Myers. The toll is $5 and they charge you $20... $15 administration fee!! This is just an absolute ripoff for a company. They should be embarrassed at the way they run this mess. Be careful people!! I WILL NOT EVER GO BACK! read more

Well first off you walk a mile to the meeting place at the Fort Myers airport. Shuttle drivers are really nice that's why it got 1 star The push the upscale insurance policy and they charge you $150 deposit plus charge you for gas. Now I filled the car up with gas and upon returning the car I wanted a receipt so I knew what my charges would be. They refused to give me a receipt so I went inside to talk to the woman behind the desk and she refused to give me a receipt. They just keep saying I would get an email of my charges and I have yet to receive that receipt and it's been 2 hours since I dropped off the car. I will turn this over to my lawyer for further investigation. read more

Don't trust them! Charged my credit card $65+ after I returned the car, clean and full of gas. I asked them what the additional charge was for and they said "miscellaneous". I asked miscellaneous what?? They couldn't answer!! I filed a dispute with the credit card company and they handled it! I found out that this is a normal practice for them as most people just let it go and don't question it!!! Don't be that person and let them get away with it!!! read more

I rented a car for two weeks. I had an issue with the car, which neither the rental office, corporate customer service nor their roadside assistance would assist me with. I found a dealership that was able to assist me with the vehicle issue. Upon returning the car, I explained in detail everything that happened, and provided paperwork from the dealership that documented everything. I was told I would receive a credit for my inconvenience once they settled my account. It has been a month since I returned the car and the credit has never materialized. I would highly recommend against using this company. read more

Warning....the amount book online for cost...WILL NOT!!! Be what you pay. Had I known when I booked through priceline that this was the company I would have not rented through them...get ready for extra costs and fees...also use a cc to pay. They do add an extra $500 as hold so if you are low on funds at bank use a cc. You will get it back in a few days. I got mine no problem with that. My bill was 414.46 on line at booking. I paid 696.26 with added insurance and other fees. That's a 284 difference so be aware and be prepared. Location is good and lady at the counter was very pleasant. The van was ok though it ran like it needed service though...idled high . You sign in a small cc machine so small print that you barely can read it so that's where they trick you with your " Real total" bill. we rented a car for 4 days - requested a mid size car - when we got there the woman told us she upgraded us to an SUV- not telling us this would cost more - upon return we filled the gas tank to the top they then charged me over 150$ for both the unasked-for upgrade and the "gas" that was already full on top of the original price we already paid i reached out to the company and they refuse to refund me read more

One-Star Review: Do Not Rent from Fox Rental I strongly advise against renting a vehicle from Fox Rental in Florida or anywhere else. My experience was incredibly disappointing. I booked a vehicle through Expedia, paying $62.12 for a four-day rental and $34.03 in taxes. However, when I arrived to pick up the vehicle, I was charged again, in addition to the taxes and all sorts of extra fees. I was also hit with additional charges that included hefty fees for roadside assistance, vehicle licensing, and privilege recovery fees, among others. In summary, renting a vehicle from Fox Rental is not worth the hassle or the extra costs. I would recommend looking elsewhere for your rental needs. The worst experience I've ever had with a car rental first they got booked on Expedia which I paid for and then I got charged a deposit of $592.93 and only received $145.86 back on my credit card, the lady at the counter was rude and said I had to pay $15.00 a day in tolls to them to go over toll bridges I had the car 7 days and went to sanibel Island 1 day and also went to Gasparilla Island which they Have a toll booth with people actually taking your money but, its not included in the car rental $15.00 daily tolls I had to pay that right then and there which she said that none of the toll booths you can pay at so I had to pay $6.00 a day for that we went there 3 days and then the lady at fox desk said I had to have some sort of insurance when I have full coverage and charged me for that I got scammed and ripped off this company should be shut down they are thieves! Be careful of business practice at fox rental car in Fort myers. I rented a car in mid April that had pre-existing damage. When I rented the car, it was conveniently parked at their location in a dark spot where damage under the bumper could not be seen even with a light. Absolute garbage company. Told them we'd use our personal insurance for the car but let them talk me into toll protection, thinking the plate bills will go to them. I rented a car from FoxRent and was extremely disappointed to find out they add huge hidden fees for tolls. Normally, tolls are cheap (like $3.80), but FoxRent will add around $15 extra per toll on top of that. Nobody at the service desk informed me about this at all -- I only found out when I got charged later. This feels like a total scam and a way to get extra money out of customers without being upfront. The car was good overall, but these hidden fees completely ruined the experience for me. If you're in a hurry, don't go to this place. The office is at least ten minutes away by shuttle. On arriving there was a long line, with just two people serving them and one customer was there about 20 minutes with nobody helping in order to move the line. Understand that if you rent from Fox through Expedia you will be paying double the advertised amount through add-ons and hidden fees they won't discuss when you pick up the vehicle. It was one of the only two rental business that you needed a shuttle to get to. Took about a half hour for the shuttle to arrive. Everything was fine until I was charged for roadside assistance, additional insurance, a full tank of gas at pick up, and "concession recovery fee" all totalling about the same amount to actually rent the vehicle through Expedia. The clerk had said that they would only charge for the gas used and I used less than half of what was in the vehicle. I didn't agree to the additional insurance or roadside assistance. Didn't need it and didn't agree to it. When picking up the vehicle I was just title to"sign here, here and here" and "do you have good insurance? Yes? Then sign here" and off we went. They didn't review any of th additional charges. I called customer service and explained the situation and their response was "you signed the rental agreement so there is nothing we can do". read more

Then when I returned, they told me if it's below half tank, there will be no refund....I called customer service, they said it's policy and sorry the counter guy misinformed me. 1-Star Review -- Book at Your Own Risk I want to make it clear that the Fox Rent a Car employees in Fort Myers provided great customer service -- my issue is not with them. My complaint is with Fox Rent a Car as a company. Their corporate practices are misleading and predatory. There's a reason their initial prices appear cheaper -- it's a tactic to trick price comparison searches. Once you book, the hidden fees and extra charges make the final cost much higher than what was advertised. To make matters worse, their corporate customer service is terrible. If you call for help, they often hang up on you, and the wait times are extremely long, even for urgent situations like car emergencies. This is not how a professional company should treat paying customers. As a company, they deserve 1 star. Book at your own risk. read more

Services terrible, they have so many hidden fees, car was unusable, and customer service sucked.

If I could give a negative 5 I would. This company is EMBARRASSING. I paid for the rental on Hopper and then agent when I picked the car up charged me again. She added multiple additional charges that I did not agree to when pick up the car. I have tried for 3 weeks to contact them through their customer service. They have a recording to call back during business hours. I have tried that to resolve this and get the exact same recorded message. They will not answer their phone because they don't want to be questioned on their SHADY business practices. This was not to mention that I rented and intermediate car from Hopper and was given a compact car. Then agent said that was all that they had. I WILL NEVER RENT FROM FOX AGAIN!!!! read more

Absolutely unprofessional and hidden costs. The large "refundable deposit" was not completely refunded. Toll cost of over 200.00 not refunded...went over the bridge twice. The way it was explained to me was that this would be easier than getting prepaid till card. Also, never received my check out agreement emailed to me as I had been told at 6:00 am when car was dropped off. They are truly not worth the extra savings of maybe 100.00. should have listed to my head and rented thru someone else...more reputable. Also, the customer service lady I was working with was definitely in hard sell mode behind the counter, and very evasive with her answers when I asked questions. Straight answers were hard to come by. Again, toll information information and charges DEFINITELY not explained correctly. The only thing pleasant was the shuttle service ..which is the ONLY reason I'm even giving 1 star. read more

Angel lied through her teeth, insisting that they would only rent cars with full tank of gas prepaid upfront and we needed to get the car back at empty! That's BS, and obviously a scam. How do you return a car exactly at empty? The website clearly states they do a full to full tank rental. Chatted with customer service who also confirmed that 'full to full' is the default, but Angel wouldn't budge and made us prepay for a full tank of gas. Scammers! As others have mentioned, we had to wait a really long time - first to get the shuttle to the offsite location and then in the queue to get the car. All other car rentals are at the terminal, and if I had to do it again, I would NOT rent with Fox. read more

Renter Beware: Hidden Fees & Shady Practices I usually only leave reviews to highlight great service--this is not one of those times. Despite the many negative reviews of Fox Car Rental at RSW, I gave them a chance. The shuttle driver was friendly, but at the rental counter, I watched another customer argue over being charged for pre-existing scratches. Red flag. At checkout, I was told they'd place a refundable $166.48 hold for tolls or damages. I noted visible scratches on the car and made sure staff acknowledged them. We had the car for a month, and it ran fine. A few days before returning it, I paid to extend our contract by a day to avoid any late charges. Before returning, we filled the tank, vacuumed the interior, and even took it through a car wash. On return, an employee told us to leave the keys and go, but I insisted on a walkaround. He said, he checked out the car and said "You're good." I still took a full video of the clean, undamaged car--thankfully. Then came my credit card bill: $50 late fee (even though I extended the contract) $88 gas charge (despite a full tank) Not sure who got to fill their personal tank on my dime. Random "rate" fees for a grand total of $160.47 They reversed the $57.94 late fee after I sent proof, but said I approved the other charges, which I did not. I guess when you provide the credit card at pick up (you don't have any other option) this is their "consent" to charge whatever they feel like. Bottom line: I returned the car full, clean, and on time, yet was still charged $102.53 in bogus fees. Save yourself the headache--use a reputable rental company instead. read more

Charged me for items that I said no to when picking up my car. Last who rented me my car was very deceitful. Do not recommend

Came across Fox Rent A Car a few times during my bookings on Expedia. Never really tried them b/c they are located a shuttle bus ride away from the RSW arrivals terminal. Decided to give them a go on our last trip since their price was about 40% lower than their competitors. I must say that my experience was "pretty good". Positives: The Shuttle bus stop is not that much farther from the terminal than where you'd pick up from Sixt. Did not have to wait long to get picked up. It was also not too long a ride from the terminal to the rental lot (about 5 mins. tops) Picking up our rental was quick and painless. The young lady who helped us was superbly pleasant (as was the shuttle bus driver). The price. I dunno how competitive their prices would be for a day or two, but I needed the car for 15 full days and, for me, it was, as stated above, almost 1/2 what the other companies were asking (on expedia). Service. One of my kids forgot his cellphone in the car. It was swiftly sent to my home. Received it in 2 days. I am very thankful for this. Negatives: They did NOT have the car I had reserved. Yes, I am aware that they ALWAYS state "Toyota Camry OR SIMILAR". I do not consider a Dodge charger in any way similar to a Camry. The vehicle was a bit scratched up on the outside, had a pretty conspicuous dried up spill on the inside of the front passenger's door and worst of all... the car smelled of smoke (someone must of vaped or smoked a cigar or something inside there). The situation was remedied with Febreze. The vehicle ran out of windshield wiper fluid on the 2nd or 3rd day of usage (which I replenished on my dime). The vehicle was a bit older than what I usually get from other rentals. All in all. I am happy was happy with the service and moreover, the price. read more

How many more people have to get suckered into paying for insurance they need until something gets done?? I told Angel (Sales rep who waited on me) that I already have full coverage insurance and I don't need their additional insurance and she said not all insurance covers ........ and she proceeds to mumble for 10 seconds and I can't make out a single word after that. She then goes over the security deposit and and I swipe my credit card and she has me initial their small c.c. screen with a quick description of each screen. NOT ONCE during this process did she mention that I agree to additional insurance or I would have said "Absolutely Not" but of course I get my bill emailed to me a few days after I return the car and there is the big ole $154.95 in LOSS DAMAGE INSURANCE. I have emailed them twice with no response so now I will get my money's worth by sharing my experience on every review site I can find until they refund me. If anyone from Fox in Ft. I pre-purchased my collision damage protection when I booked my rental. When I checked in to pick up the car, the agent at the counter even acknowledged that I already had protection and said we could move on to the rest of the paperwork. While signing, their explanations were brief, and there was no screen or paper showing what I was actually agreeing to--just a signature pad. I trusted what the staff member was telling me. After I left, I noticed they had added and charged me for an additional protection plan that I never requested. When I contacted them to fix the issue, the only response I received was, "you signed it," as if that excuses the lack of disclosure. On top of that, there were other charges on the invoice that still do not make sense. At this point, I should be disputing the entire bill because the charges are inconsistent with what I agreed to.
