This place used to be a dumping ground in the old days and has been transformed into a gorgeous park. Sydney Park includes a series of visually prominent hills which provide panoramic views of the city skyline and Sydney Airport. There is a massive skate park, kids play areas and some of the heritage of this area has also been preserved nicely. Loved going here with our dog.

Sydney Park…read more Identifiable from the historical heritage listed brickworks chimneys from the days when the area used to be the brickworks for Sydney, it's a vast green area that is perfect for any recreational activity. Lovely open green areas perfect for walking the dog, and a large kids playground equipped with a large sandpit, climbing frames, swings and slides, it's got everything a kid needs to explore, play and wear themselves out. There's a challanging skate park, and a learn to ride bike area for the kids. There's also a sports oval where I believe a local Sydney grade cricket team plays during the summer months. Lush green grass is plentiful, and perfect for a picnic. Climb up the steep hills and you will find yourself with views stretching to the City and lower North Shore in the north, to the Aiport and Brighton le Sands region in the South, and on clear sunny days, free of smog and polloution you can glimpse the sprawling Blue Mountains and Great Dividing Range. Whether you're jogging or cycling through for a bit of quick fitness, or spending the day relaxing, it's a fantastic park with plenty of amenities. One downside is the toilets aren't the cleanest, and probably need more attention especially during weekend periods. There's a small cafe just outside the childrens play area which serves a good range of coffees and light meals. I'm sure in time that'll get a review on it's own. But with two young kids, it's going to be a regular destination for myself. And with walking distance to King St, Newtown, I'm sure there's plenty of opportunities for a cheeky beer or two in one of the many pubs and bars located along the strip. Or, if you're my wife, plenty of (window) shopping.

And you want a water feature too?? Seems someone is practising a bit of wishful thinking.... or.... they have been to Steel Park. If you are looking for a place to have a picnic with the kids, then this is it. You should know however that it is not perfect. The playground is not fenced off. The kids can access the river. The water feature has a lot of stone (which is not soft if kids fall on it). Finally.. if you did not know about the water feature and come here with children, no matter what you tell them, they will be a sopping wet mess by the time it is time to go home. All is all... so long as you actually pay attention to your child and supervise what they are doing (I know know I am likely asking far too much here), then they will have a blast, and the person "minding" all of the stuff at the picnic mat (as they read their book and sun bake a little) will also be able to relax a little. Need I say more. Check this place out. Still to find an awesome cafe in spitting distance, but you'll survive. I did... :-)

As a kid I would have lost my s--t if I'd got to go anywhere like this when I was a kid. Plenty of places for the kids to run up, down and around and play. Great for kids birthday parties, where a party can have their own room to have lunch before they head back out to go nuts and burn off the sugar. The food on their menu for grown ups is not bad - I had the felafel wrap.. it was actually really good. Very easy to get there and plenty of spots to park on the weekend. I can imagine parking might be a bit a challenge there on weekdays.

Newtown Park! I came here for the Newtown Music Festival,…read morewhen this place is hopping. They had the whole block shut off, and this park was in the center of all the action. I'm sure the park isn't this happening the other 364 days of the year. But it's a nice park with wide sidewalks that take you past fields of grass, shady trees, and park benches. There seems to be plenty of street side parking for this park, so it's easy to get to. There's also a subway stop just down the way from here. There's some drinking fountains, and other things to keep you busy. Be sure to check out the graffiti street art along the walls! Cool! There's also a playground if you're inclined. It was a great venue for a festival, and an asset to the neighborhood! The place felt safe, since they were checking bags at the park entrances, and there was plenty of security guys hanging about. I still managed to sneak in a bottle of vodka though. The park backs up to a cemetery, so it has quiet neighbors who don't mind if you're loud.

Camperdown Rest Park is the purrrrfect same population of Newtown! It's by no means where you'd want to bring your mum for a picnic lunch, as you're bound to get contact high from the couple sitting next to you. But if what you're after is some serious people watching with friends and cider, then this really is the perfect park. Rules seem to not apply here, and whether it's a man in a dress or a dog in a tutu, you can find everything you never knew you wanted here. Graffiti. Guy playing guitar. Man in a dress... It's an every-day occurrence here and Newies are absolutely unapologetic about it. On the weekends this park is PACKED, and even if a pop-up festival wasn't planned the day before, the sheer number of people here evoke the feeling that there's something going on. And trust me, there is. The only downside is that there are no public toilets .. but the lack of outhouses forces you to stroll into the closest venue around, which is The Courthouse Hotel, and my absolute favorite watering hole in Newtown and beyond! Lets be real, any excuse for a Sunday afternoon cider works for me!

Have your wedding ceremony here, family and romantic picnics, or sit under a palm tree and enjoy lunch away from your desk. The space is used for large cultural and commemorative functions, such as Anzac Day celebrations and Carols by Candlelight. For the history buffs, this park also played a bit role in the Botany Remembers celebrations in August 1995, commemorating 50 years since the end of the war in the Pacific.

I totally did not realise how much exercise trampolining is until I got there. I also didn't know it can be soooo hard to bounce around! It's a good place for corporate Bonding, silly with friends, or even an adventurous date night. If you are keen to do some proper exercises, there's also dodge ball night comps too! Definitely worth a try! 4 stars and not 5 cause it can get really hot, and the drinks there are quite pricy.

Sky Zone is kind of like that...if it weren't for the staff enforcing the rules, there would definitely be a Lord of the Flies situation brewing here. At $18 an hour with socks it's pretty affordable, though their locker system really sucks. There's only one terminal for their 20+ lockers, and for whatever reason if someone checks out of their locker and you check in right after they check out, they will assign you that locker...so if that person shuts that locker right after you check in and are assigned that locker you're screwed and will need to get a staff member to unlock it, unless you don't mind losing $4. There are 4 primary zones to experience here, the trampoline zone where you can jump to your hearts desire (1 per square,) the basketball hoop zone (short and tall,) foam pit, and dodgeball. Foam pit was probably the most fun, assuming you don't have a horde of children in front of you...as it can take a minute to climb out of. Didn't get to experience dodgeball, as there was a horde of children in front... I would wear some athletic gear like DriFit as I totally did not expect to get such a workout from jumping...be prepared to sweat. Will definitely come back cause it was all in all a great time, even with the kids running the place.

Enmore Park is a lovely space to come for a bit of chill-out time. Whether you want to find a quiet…read morespot under a tree to read a book, or you're bringing family and friends for a picnic, there's enough space and lush green grass for the entire neighbourhood. It's also super flat, so you'll often see kids learning to ride bikes along the paths or running amuck in the playground. (Must admit, I was tempted to join in.) A big drawcard is the Annette Kellerman Aquatic Centre, which has had a reno and now offers an eight-lane 50-metre pool and a mini pool for toddlers. There's also a café and a gym in the complex. The park sits close to the border of Enmore and Marrickville. There's usually parking available around the outskirts of the park or there's a bus stop directly out the front. If you need a bit of replenishment, stop by the café, head across the road to Serendipity ice-cream or take a stroll to the pub Vic on the Park.
