Totally blown away by my visit here! This gorgeous historic mansion is just beautiful to visit. (It's also spooky and haunted!) The staff let you roam the mansion while you wait for your meal, and there is a lot to see. I loved my orange creamsicle cocktail. My entree was delicious, as was the lovely cotton candy creme brulee for dessert! I can't wait to go back. They also have a new "speakeasy"/bar area on the main floor, though the legit speakeasy used to be in the basement during Prohibition. Very cool!!! read more

So glad we returned to Fowler House Kitchen (Mansion) for dinner. After a semi-disappointing Easter Brunch, we thought it had potential and wanted to give it another try. Our dinner was fabulous. The carefully cultivated menu offers original and inventive entrees that you can't get anywhere else in town. We enjoyed the pickled produce platter as an appetizer (featured that night: asparagus, kiwi, and a miso egg, all interesting!) as well as the watermelon and cucumber salad. But the big revelation was the lamb shank served on cheese grits with watermelon radish and pineapple. The flavors were out of this world. The servings were plentiful. Patience is required as there is often only one server, but it allows for a leisurely meal in a gorgeous setting. read more

We sat in the patio which was wonderful. I wish I could give it more stars because uses of love for them to make it but the service was so slow and inconsistent. My salmon was so dry it was hard to eat and my salad was drowning in dressing. The building is beautiful and the wine was good. read more

My suggestion is simplify the menu to a couple of key dishes that the chef can knock out of the park. To accept the status quo here is unthinkable read more

My wife and I visit West Lafayette frequently to visit our daughter, granddaughter and SIL. Lately we have had difficulty finding new restaurants to eat in that offer outdoor dining (we still try and take COVID precautions), so when my daughter mentioned this restaurant we all agreed that it was worth a visit, even though some prior Yelp reviews were negative. I needn't have worried, however; we all had a nice dinner in a pleasant environment. Fowler House is a mansion that you can do self-tours of; we walked through it to get back to street level after our meal (I made the mistake of climbing a lot of stairs to get to it at the beginning of the meal). The patio is pretty and when we visited at 5 PM on a Wednesday it was not crowded. The food was much better than some of the prior reviews would suggest. I really enjoyed my half-pound cheeseburger, which came with homemade potato chips (although no mention of these appeared on the menu). My five-year old granddaughter had a smaller burger from the kid's menu; hers actually came with some tasty fries (likewise not mentioned on the menu). My wife had the salmon and bacon sandwich, which she liked a lot as well. Both her portion and mine were generous enough that we each got a second meal out of our leftovers. My daughter seemed pleased with her chicken pot pie; my SIL had the crispy chicken and although he didn't rave about it, didn't make any complaints either. For dessert we all shared a chcolate marquise. Unlike the rest of us, my SIL is not a chocoholic, so he had just had a tiny taste; we divided the rest into quarters and all had a sufficient portion. It's quite rich (with a mousse-like consistency, though perhaps somewhat denser) and was served on a plate with a generous dollop of whipped cream. Prices are mildly high but not exorbitant. I never had the feeling that I was being ripped off. The service was fine as well. So, bottom line: a successful meal, one which I hope to do again the next time we're in town. Note: there are two businesses listed on Yelp: Fowler House Mansion and Fowler House Kitchen. To get the widest assortment of reviews, be sure to check both. Very Disappointing! Ordered a medium steak and it came out bloody so they compensated by taking 10% off the price of the steak. The other entree tasted so bad it was left completely uneaten. Wouldn't have even given 1 star if Icould have. read more

It was extremely disappointing experience. After two-hour wait we have finally received our order, and every single dish has been a miss- from the pasta/salmon that had no flavor to ribeye steak that didn't not look or tasted as the ribeye. The place is closing down, and it seems like they they have decided to just let it go. I would not suggest coming here. read more

It can be quite difficult to get a restaurant reservation during Purdue sporting events. Most places are booked all night. I found this on Open Table. I was able to get a reservation. It was terrific. The mansion is very cool and you will dine in one of the several rooms. Staff is good. Food is delicious. read more

Sovereign Catering & Events was a Godsend for us. We had a destination wedding, but decided to have a reception for our friends and family to celebrate. Barbara had amazing ideas and so many options for us to choose from. She entertained all of my crazy ideas and even made breakfast for dinner for us. The Lahr Atrium provided an excellent back drop for our big celebration, as we brought the beach back with us. Barbara surprised me with a palm tree to finish off our decorations of sand and sea shells. We were so pleased with how our reception turned out. All of our friends and family still talk about how beautiful it was. If you are looking for a worry-free experience, choose Sovereign Catering & Events, you won't be disappointed. read more

I used Fowler House Kitchen to do catering for a birthday party. They brought everything to my house and even set it all up. I was able to enjoy the party instead of being stuck in the kitchen. And that cost was about what I would have spent buying everything at the grocery. This saved me a lot of time and stress and the food was so yummy. read more

Attended the Easter Brunch and looked forward to it as we were coming from a distance to spend the weekend in Lafayette. We were on the first seating of brunch at 1000. I'm sorry to say I was so disappointed. The service was nice, a little slow but the thing that disappointed us so much was the temperature of the food. Everything was cold including the coffee and the water for my tea. It seemed that all the food was not warmed or heated properly before going into the chaffing dishes and it was just so cold we did not enjoy it at all. There were no dinner rolls which seems like a common thing with a brunch. I left there feeling that I had paid way too much for an experience that I did not get. I wish I had eaten the breakfast we got free at our hotel. That was made to order and HOT. Won't be recommending this brunch place at all. read more

I was throwing my son a first birthday party and needed a good caterer to help me out. One of my dearest friends recommended Sovereign Catering to me. I spoke with Barbara about the types of food I wanted to have at this party, and she was very helpful and very sweet to talk to. She arrived with her staff at my house to set up before the party. They were very prepared, professional, and efficient in setting everything up. Barbara and her staff have great personalities and are a pleasure to work with. I really felt like they were family members helping me with the party. The food I had chosen turned out to be spectacular and a huge hit with my guests. During the whole party, my guests would compliment on the food and ask who catered. The food is wonderful and the price is reasonable. Fowler house catered our spring retreat last year for the executive board of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Lafayette! Felicia was so easy to work with and gave us some great options. Soverign Catering provides very unprofessional, horrible service.After telling other people about my experience I heard that a lot of other people have had problems with them as well. I want to share my experience so other brides can make an informed decision. First of all which should have been my biggest trigger to drop this vendor is that the responses to emails and phone calls was very lacking. I would have to call/email several times before getting a response back. And I'm not saying that it would take a day for a response, I would wait several days to a week without a response. To run a successful business you need to respond to your clients in a timely fashion. The only time I would receive a response is when it was about money and when they would be paid. Secondly we wanted sushi for our reception. We were told that they can not do sushi but she said that she could outsource it for us. About a month went by and she told us she could not find anyone to provide sushi for our wedding. She let us book a second caterer to provide the sushi. The person we booked knew Barbara and worked with her in the past so that made it seem like she wasn't even trying to outsource it. Our sushi caterer was very professional and accomidating. Now it comes down to a day before the wedding (which is the day we are supposed to get and set up the venue) and I get a call from Barbara saying that she lost our set up that we had met and discussed. She wanted to know about our head table and placement. Now I know loosing/misplacing things happens to everyone but you don't wait until the day of set up to call the bride and get new set up instructions. When we got to the venue to set up, none of the venue was set up the way we had discussed and to top it all off Barbara was rude to me while I was re-setting up the venue the way it was supposed to be. We has asked to have tables upstairs so guests could spread out as the night went along and when I asked her why the tables weren't up there she told me I did not need them! To top it all off she brought her CHILD to the set up! This is a year or so old baby who tried to get in our candy buffet and bags! You DO NOT bring a child with you to work! Also while we were setting up she allowed other people into the venue to see it without notifying us. We had it booked for that time, not her. When I asked her about it she was rude to me and said she has several events and need to do business when she can. I told her to she shouldn't overbook herself and she replied that she didn't. To top it off on our wedding day she started breaking down our tables BEFORE our event was scheduled to end! Even going as far as taking off the linens we provided and our centerpieces. I could go on and on about how unprofessoinal Barbara and Soverign Catering is but I'm running out of characters. Long story short, do not consider booking with Soverign Catering. I have worked in the entertainment industry for over 10 years doing events and she would have been fired in a minute if one of the companies I worked for had booked her to work with their event. I should have walked away the second it took her a week to respond to my phone calls and emails and it would have saved me a lot of trouble! read more

We don't live in Lafayette, but needed catering for a local event. Even though all of our arrangements were via phone and email, everything worked out perfectly. I described the type of event & provided a list of the foods that sounded good from their menu (this was the only difficult part, since just about everything looked delicious). From this basic info, they created an excellent combination of foods, which were perfect for the event (mostly standup/mingling, and the food accommodated that). The food itself was delicious (consensus opinion from the guests), and they were extremely reliable - responded quickly to our communications, and were right on time for setup and cleanup, even though our venue was new to them. I never had a moment of worry. They were flexible in the arrangements and the food choices provided. Look at their menu to see the unique, creative food - I won't go into that here.
