If I could leave 0 stars I would. First off, we get to the hotel to check in and apparently their card system is down and will only take cash. They called twice and never left a voicemail. I tried calling them back when I had service and they never answer their phone. So we get into the room and the smell of harsh chemicals is so strong I was nauseated and getting migraines. Later that night the rooms next to ours in the back we're empty. After midnight a loud truck pulls up and we start hearing drilling in the room and the walls rattling. This lasts around 3 hours before the truck leaves at 3:29am. Then around 6:30 in the morning, truck comes back and the smell of harsh chemicals starts. We complain to management when they opened and the worker started telling another patron there that we were trying to scam him and that he gets scammed all the time. The guy was unprofessional when we checked in and kept that unprofessionalism at check out. Do not go here. read more

First off didn't expect a lot from the motel according to reviews and the price. We just needed a place to stay. So the chemical smell was so bad that our 5 year old started vomiting and coughing. Luckily we were going to dinner so we just left the window cracked and that helped by the time we got back. Amazing people, James. The manager is very patient kind. He and his staff go out of their way to help guests and make their stay very enjoyable and most pleasant. I have been to many motels and hotels. And I have never been to a motel where you step in the shower and the water Is hot and stays hot? This has been a very pleasant experience, and I would recommend this motel to people going to Newport depot Bay or Lincoln City. I will definitely be back to stay at this hotel. Great location and has a fantastic view from the front. The people were friendly and quick to respond. I booked three days and enjoyed the area so much I stayed over an extra day. I read some of the reviews. yes, the building is old and a little dated but it;s well maintained and serves the purpose very well. For a couple of minor inconveniences, I could afford a week here instead of one night at the place across the street. A thank you to the staff and I'll be back soon. read more

Beds uncomfortable. The management is horrible. The view is great if you are on the front side. If on the back.. not and tiny rooms. I had stuff "dissappear" from my room. Manager told me different things about cost and time to stay. I would stay anywhere except here or Summer Winds in Newport that's owned by same. I also found "maintence" guy to be prejudice and very pushy, though I suspect he is really the owner. read more

Absolutely charming little place. A little "Bates Motel" vibe, but I love that. Old style motel feel. The prices are definitely a bargain for the scenic views you get. *Plus, you're directly across from the private bay!(few people know this, except for explorers. Directly across from the motel is a walk down cliff side, laden with a rope to help guide you down to said private Beach cove) Management has been exceptional. Very attentive, very active. Go. Anywhere. Else. I booked a room for this hotel through Expedia. It didn't have the best reviews but i took them with a grain of salt because i was booking for Memorial weekend and couldn't afford to pay $240 for one night. I'm here to tell you: listen to the reviews. Don't stay here. Two nights before our arrival, i called to confirm our reservation. There was a bit of a communications barrier, but they finally said "okay, Sunday" and hung up. When we arrived we thought "this is great, we can walk to the whale watch center!" Then we tried to check in, only to find out they had given away our room. They argued about where to put us, and finally shuffled us into the tiniest, darkest room i've ever seen. It was so small that there was nowhere but the bed to put our suitcase. When we turned in for the night, we had to put the suitcase back in the trunk of the car. By this time, i was disappointed but i didn't go to the coast to hang out in the room so i decided to grin and bear it. Until i walked into the bathroom and almost pitched headfirst into the bathtub. The circa-1952 brick tiles under the linoleum were smashed and the floor dipped down suddenly when you stepped on that spot. Super safe, right? We made a mental note to be careful where we walked, and carried on with our unpacking. Then we tried to head out for the afternoon and made the most disturbing discovery... ... THERE WAS NO WAY TO LOCK THE DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE! The owner had given us a key when we checked in, but apparently it's just for show. It just kinda wiggled around in the lock but didn't actually do anything. Common sense would tell you to march over to the office and complain, but it had been made plain to us that they wouldn't listen to us anyway. Re-packing our stuff and stowing it in our car was easier than another struggle/headache. Our neighbors were awful. They shouted at each other all night. Turns out the owners live in the very next room - but they didn't do a darn thing about it. So here's the kicker... after all of this: giving away our room, the broken bathroom floor, the USELESS lock, the sleepless night... when we checked out the next morning, the owner insisted that i owed him another $20 in "additional pet fees." I emphatically but politely told him no and he persisted. When i repeated myself, he finally relented... and invited me to come stay with them again. Yeah right. read more

The motel has NEW OWNERS as of several weeks ago. While the rooms need some updating (the new owners have taken on quite a project), ours was sparkling clean, the bed was comfortable, and the rates affordable. The owners are very friendly and accommodating, making sure to ask if there was anything they could do to make our stay even more enjoyable. The location is terrific, with dining, shopping, and many nature trails all within an easy walk. A great value right on the coast! read more

This was the absolute worst experience I have ever had with any motel. The owner is so rude! He actually kept my $150 Temperpedic brand pillow and ruined it. I left my pillow there. My husband went back that same night and asked for it. The owner lied and said it was locked away in a storage and alarms had been set. My husband returned the next morning, and the owner had told a house keeper to put my pillow in the industrial washer, which she did. She told my husband there was no storage and no alarm and that the owner just didn't want us to have it back. She handed it back in a black trash bag soaking wet and torn in half! Absolutely ruined. The rooms are filthy! Food under the refrigerator, staines of unknown origin on the couch. The room smells like an old ashtray. This place should be shut down. I would warn anyone to stay far away from this place and the owner who seems bitter, rude and definitely destroyed my property on purpose. Be warned! read more

Absolutely the worst place I have ever had the displeasure of staying. I have been more comfortable in a tent outside on the floor than the beds here. The staff tried to charge our card twice and didn't believe us when we told him we already paid online. Luckily our bank stopped that one. We also paid way too much for this place and that is what I'm really upset about. I didn't expect anything more than just basic amenities and a bed for the night but I paid what I would to stay in a three star hotel. The heater makes the entire room smell terrible. There were blood stains on the sheets and other stains on the blankets. I can't begin to describe how uncomfortable the bed was. The door doesn't work, like it was very hard for us to shut and lock the door and our screen door didn't even have a handle. The only nice thing I can say about this place is that there is a nice view and it's central to town. That's it. read more

Absolutely the worst place to stay in Depoe Bay. Broken doors, black mold in the shower and under the bathroom sink, super stained carpets and poor management. There was a fight in the parking lot that no one from management ever sought to stop. Years ago this was a nice locally owned property. Now management has gone way downhill. My parents and I are road tripping up the coast and decided to stay here since it has an ocean view, is walking distance to everything around, and is well priced. The motel is pretty old, but our room was clean and more than big enough for 3 people, 3 suitcases, and two queen beds. The owner was nice to us and cry accommodating. I read the other reviews but my parents and I didn't have any negative experiences. I would stay here again. read more

This is a very old motel. You drive up a hill, park outside your door and the window (which opens) looks directly out over Depoe Bay. We stopped fairly late with no reservation (we just drove until we got hungry and were tired) on the scenic (they're all scenic) route to Portland. Check-in was easy; the people were polite and helpful; free wi-fi, good air temp (it was a pretty warm summer day) -- all in all, an excellent room for the price, with one of the best views of our vacation. In fact, it was a room most of the big chains would now call a "suite" -- with a living room (sofa, chairs, desk, coffee maker, TV) -- and a separate bedroom (also with desk and TV). Very roomy and comfortable. In fact, because I'd twisted my ankle walking at a "scenic overlook" to take a picture earlier in the day, I ended up falling asleep on the sofa with my leg propped up on the coffee table. This is not a shiny new motel by any stretch -- but sometimes that's a plus. A chain would probably tear this place down and put up something that takes "better" advantage of this choice location, in architecture that overpowers the quiet atmosphere of the "smallest harbour in the world." Keep your fingers crossed that they never let this happen.... Easy walk to great cafes, to the whale watching place, etc. Good experience. Low cost. read more

A clean cozy spot to lay your head. The room was nothing flashy, but it was clean and the proprietors took great care to ensure the health and comfort of everyone. The place is older, and dated, but the view was fantastic and the location was better than I expected. A few things to clarify regarding previous posters gripes and complaints: The room doors do lock, but you have to push and turn the handle from the inside. It's not tricky, and if you can't figure it out, just ask the folks at the front desk. The "language barrier" is easy to overcome if you use your words. They spoke perfectly intelligible English and were quite courteous; we were able to communicate politely and effectively even through masks and plexiglass barriers. The WiFi password is provided at check in, and the connection was fast and consistent. The room as are thoroughly cleaned between guests, and any lingering cleaning solutions can be managed by opening the window. While the room lacked AC, the window opened quite easily. We didn't miss air conditioning even on a warm August weekend because the north-central Oregon coast doesn't typically get too warm at night. The box fan provided in the room did more than an adequate job to move the air around. The road noise was no worse than it is at more expensive accommodations or private residences on the same stretch of HWY 101. The mini fridge was cold, the coffee pot brewed hot coffee, and shower temp range was perfect for two people who don't agree how hot showers should be. We had plenty of clean soft cotton towels, and the bed was adequately comfortable with crisp clean sheets and double cased pillows. I'll definitely stay here again--vintage quirks and all. read more

Seriously. Go somewhere else. There's way better places (that are cheap) to stay in at Lincoln City which is 20 minutes away or Newport which is a half hour or so away. Rooms are super tiny and expensive. Paper thin walls. No air conditioning. Bathroom tub was leaking everywhere. And the lighting was making it difficult to see anything in the room. The only good thing would be that if you payed more (which you shouldn't) you got a nice view from the front. If you decide to go with the lesser of the expensive rooms you get a nice concrete slab and cars to look at. I won't be staying there again. read more

I was in town for a fishing trip and just wanted a place to sleep and this place suited me just fine. It's on Hwy 101 and you get a lot of road noise if you're on the front side, but it has a decent view of the ocean and it was the cheapest place in town. Good value for the price. read more

Set realistic expectations. It's a 70's style motel on the edge of the highway - not a Hilton. I was in room 9. It was clean and had a decent view out to the ocean. Bring your own shampoo and soap. Shower water pressure was a little lower than I like but enough to get the job done. Bed was not firm or to soft - I slept good. I can not speak to other reviews about paper thin walls - I had no neighbors during my stay. If your going fishing with the boys and need place to sleep and clean up after a day on the ocean, this place will get it done cheap. If your on your honeymoon or trip with the family, you might want to step it up a bit. On my fishing trip, it provided what I needed - shelter. read more

Among the highlights: Screen door rusted and spring broken; dirty welcome mats; curtains torn; bedroom partition broken; the bathtub did not drain properly so you're standing in water; dirty windows; lousy coffee and the coffee pot leaked; not helpful at front desk. While I am grateful they had 1 room available for us, but the room should not have been rented to us. Apparently (per other guest), there were some "not so nice" people in there and they trashed it. It was cleaned but not professionally and they used so much Carpet Fresh that the perfume was so bad we had headaches in the morning. Some people seek of vintage motels for their cultural significance and/ or location- I am not one of them. It has a bed and a bathroom and is very convenient to depoe bay. It is loud and has very bright lights outside the windows. Glad I am only here one night. read more

Cute hotel, good location, nice gentleman who checked us in but the room was tiny and the walls paper thin. The people next door kept us up all night talking and you can hear people talking outside when they walked by. As a result, we overslept past our checkout time and they charged us $10 to stay an extra hour! I've never had to pay extra money at a hotel to checkout late. The TV guide was difficult to figure out. The bed was hard but the room overall was very clean. I would not stay here again. read more

Just wanted to say how kind the owner was tonight upon our post midnight arrival after realizing that every other place was closed and the campgrounds were fully booked. Even though the owner initially had told me I could not have a dog stay in this room, he made an exception for us. This tired head had a satisfying hot bath and is ready to pass out. Yeah, it's not the ritz, but it covers the basics quite well. Five stars for having a night bell and for accommodating us in 'crisis can't find a place to stay at 12am' mode. My roommate and I booked a room last minute to escape to the beach, we booked it about a week in advance, it ended up being $270 for one night. This motel is no where near worth it. The "non-smoking" room smelled of cigarettes and had cigarette burns on the blanket. It was incredibly musty and the beds/pillows were rock hard. I have a service dog and when I checked in the two people working were angry with me for "not calling" beforehand to let them know. I travel everywhere with my service dog and never have had to call every single place I go to and let them know to expect me. The woman actually asked me why I have a service dog, this is unacceptable. You would never ask someone why they are in a wheelchair, just because you can't see my disability doesn't make it ok to badger me about it. It was extremely upsetting and unprofessional. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. The ONLY thing they had going for them was location but I'd rather camp on a hard ground farther away from the town center than give this establishment anymore money. Book elsewhere. read more

Not only is the view outstanding, the people who own and operate this motel are just as outstanding. How many owners are out sweeping the parking area at 8 AM? The rooms are super clean and the beds comfortable. They DELIVERED us blueberry muffins for breakfast. We intended to stay one night but stayed for two. read more
