When grocery shopping in a small town, we've come to expect to pay a bit more for items you need/want just because there just isn't anywhere else to get them. Four Square Supermarket in Wanaka wasn't any exception. However, when we compared their prices with the Countdown store in Queenstown, we only noticed about a 5% difference. Not too bad considering the "small town" mark up can be pretty steep sometimes.
We were in the Cordrona area for about 12 days making grocery shopping a necessity - fiscally and logically.
When we visited the store, we were welcomed as soon as we walked in with a smile and a hello (great start). The store is a bit on the small size, but given its location in town, it wasn't surprising. They carried most anything a person might need/want while on holiday (drinks, chips, cookies, cereals, breads, toiletries, dairy, fruit, etc.) They even had a small selection of hot food items. All decently priced.
There's parking directly in front, but keep in mind there's a 30 minute time limit. I'm not sure how strict the limits are here, but at home (Honolulu), 30 minutes at times MEANS 30 minutes - if you can find parking at all.
We can't complain much about this grocery store. It's a great option to pick up the necessities. read more
