New World Frankton (Queenstown) is our go to for grocery shopping, such an amazing store which leaves our supermarkets in Australia lacking by comparison. The range of bakery and deli product is outstanding. Great customer service, from a friendly helpful team, even to providing complimentary discount cards for visitors to enjoy the discounted price on a range of product across a well stocked store. And the main attraction? Izzy The Supermarket Cat! we love visiting her, and are amazed at how the management and team have taken her to their hearts and provide care for this wondefully free spirited feline.

Walking around Queenstown and Queenstown Mall, you come to realize everything is tourist price and…read moreeven buying water is pricey. Luckily we found a supermarket all the way at the far corner of Queenstown Mall near Stanley St. called 4 Square Supermarket. There's a small parking lot out front. Inside is clean and organized. There's a lot of fresh local fruits and vegetables, snacks, drinks, coffee, and etc. Oh, and water too! Big bottles of water. Self checkout was easy, and the staff there were friendly and helpful. I highly recommend coming here while visiting Queenstown. It's definitely walkable distance. This might be the last place you'll see, but it's worth it as the prices are MUCH cheaper than anywhere else.

The store feels very new and spacious, with flowers right at the entrance, plenty of fresh produce, a small café on the side, and a nice selection of pastries. Pretty much anything you need, you can find here. Prices are reasonable--slightly higher than Pak'nSave but definitely cheaper than Woolworths. So far, these are the three supermarkets we've visited, and New World has been a solid option. We usually pick up kombucha, pastries for the next morning, and some eggs since we prefer lighter breakfasts. They accept credit cards, the bathrooms are clean, and there's plenty of parking. A convenient and well-stocked stop for travelers.

Four Square Supermarket in Wanaka wasn't any exception. However, when we compared their prices with the Countdown store in Queenstown, we only noticed about a 5% difference. Not too bad considering the "small town" mark up can be pretty steep sometimes. We were in the Cordrona area for about 12 days making grocery shopping a necessity - fiscally and logically. When we visited the store, we were welcomed as soon as we walked in with a smile and a hello (great start). The store is a bit on the small size, but given its location in town, it wasn't surprising. They carried most anything a person might need/want while on holiday (drinks, chips, cookies, cereals, breads, toiletries, dairy, fruit, etc.) They even had a small selection of hot food items. All decently priced. There's parking directly in front, but keep in mind there's a 30 minute time limit. I'm not sure how strict the limits are here, but at home (Honolulu), 30 minutes at times MEANS 30 minutes - if you can find parking at all. We can't complain much about this grocery store. It's a great option to pick up the necessities.

Selection of produce was limited and very expensive. We wandered through here looking for inspiration for making meals for several days and left with yogurts, a frozen meal, a loaf of bread, beer, and wine. Needless to say it was disappointing. I was relieved to find a couple of good sour beers as well as reasonably priced high ranking Sauvignon Blanc wine. Other than that this place is not ideal for stocking the fridge for more than a day or two. Fortunately there is a food truck directly across from the parking lot where we ended up getting a couple of meals instead!
