We live in Point Place an have been regulars when it came to vet care at Shoreland . NO MORE, they no longer have the Vet Surgeon Dr Brown and his wife Dr Riker booth super excellent Vets. Now they have a Corporation of pencil pushers running their company from a distance that are clueless when it actually comes to the business of pet care. Its a shame, i think Dr. Thornton DVM would be very sad to see the practice he began afew years ago in the situation its in now. Shoreland, office staff are great an Docs ok too the place at Shoreland lost out when a corporation bought them out. It really made a difference and caused me to realize its just not the place for my fur kids. So I went to a vet that is in charge of his office and is Awesome with his patients, Dr Mason. I kept that Pt. Place Shoreland vet because its near to my home in case of Emergence, Why if its "by appointment only" (as advertised) whats the point? Shoreland has a great vet Dr Starkey full time and the other vets travel to other locations as needed. It does not allow for a good relationship B/T vet and Patient. We are going to Dr. Mason at His hospital located on Lewis Ave Now. I very happy and the pups recognize Dr Mason and feel at ease with Him and office staff, a big difference. I also noticed Eric wrote a post about his dog becoming paralyzed. I had a Puggle she experienced loss of use of back legs. Its not any vet, unfortunately it happens. Blame games are for the small minded. My Puggle Holly did recover with Dr.Shawn Browns formerly a Shorland vet owner, he was able to help Holly using infrared treatments and as a Massage Therapist I decided to do light traction. We had nothing to loose. Holly got worse than the next day got so much better an a week later she walked across the room and returned to good health. We also Prayed over her as the Healer is up over your head, just ask for help. Not all dogs recover and I am pleased to see here that the Docs in Farmington could help. Also, keep in mind that X-rays cannot read soft tissue.

No x-rays or anything else. Sent me home with a pain med and told me to make him stay still for a few days and they would call and check up on him. They never called. Three days later his hind legs were paralyzed and a real vet sent me up to an amazing hospital in Farmington for emergency surgery. I wish I could sue this place. And the super aggressive blonde tech is a real piece of work as well. In this instance you CAN judge a book by it's cover. if you care about your pets, I would drive on by.

Everything from our initial call through our first appt. was great. The front office staff reached…read moreout to let me know when they received the records from my former vet, and were always very professional and friendly. We were welcomed and shown into a room immediately, and our vet tech was wonderful. Our cat is a big old scaredy cat, so we really appreciated how kind and gentle both the vet tech and Dr. Tate were, and that they were even nice enough to wrap our cat in a blanket they misted in calming pheromones. One reason we left our last vet was because they kept trying to sell us on every test and unnecessary thing our cat didn't actually need. So, I was really grateful Dr. Tate did a great exam, told us possible tests (i.e. blood work options) and then let us make our decision without judgement. We're so grateful we found Dr. Tate!

In the annual check-up she detected a heart murmur and "gravely sounds" in my 6 y/o cat's lungs. She said she didn't think there was a need for additional testing, and told me to keep an eye on his respiration rate - count it when he sleeps and call them if gets fast. I did that, and over the next few months called their office on 2 different occasions to report respiration that was just over the "fast" side. The person that answered the phone took the information and I was told there was not a concern. I brought my boy back for annual exam. The night before he had a bad coughing fit. I was told they did an x-ray and that his heart was enlarged and he was in hear failure. I was there over an hour waiting and knew something was wrong. I was sent to Blue Pearl in Southfield - told they had vet cardiologists there. (NEVER go to Blue Pearl - terrible!) Discovered the next day that Veterinary Cardiology Consultants had an office only a few miles north of Troy Vet Hospital! At Blue Pearl they diagnosed my boy with congestive heart failure / hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). This was approx. $3,500 visit - after spending about $700 at Troy Animal Hospital. I followed-up with Vet Cardiologist Consultant's for my cat's care. In the following 11 months I've spent another $2,000 - $3,000 on consultations, echocardiograms, fluid aspiration, monthly medications, supplements, holistic care. My boy was in advanced heart failure and died two days ago. I've learned along the way that in that initial annual check-up at Troy Animal Hospital in November 2017 that the heart murmur and gravely sounds detected in his lungs were early & strong indicators of cardio myopathy developing. I wasn't even offered the option of additional diagnostic testing - I would have done it! Instead told she "didn't think it was necessary at this time." If testing had been done and treatment started then he could have lived a long and healthy life with condition management. Instead, his quality of life deteriorated fast - he died at only 8 y/o - and it cost me approx. $7,000 in that 11 months along with so much stress, sadness and grief. My heart is broken. My boy was one of those special cats - the kind even people who hate cats love. He deserved better. I understand mistakes are made in life but this was inexcusable. I called twice to report fast breathing afterwards and they weren't concerned!! Is this a matter of being too busy to give proper attention? Why not suggest testing to rule out a potentially deadly condition developing? I wish I had never stopped going to my previous vet who specialized in cats. My boy would be alive.

I have a 12 yo husky who Is starting to have hip problems. She loves people, is gentle with children. And has a sweet disposition. Dr y and her assistant could not provide services because my dog was anxious around them. Even with trazodone and a muzzle they couldn't draw blood The first visit I got flea treatment for both pets. For my husky I got ear medication, cleaner, 30 trazodone, 10 primary for about $800. Second visit I had to sedate my dog. When the team arrived i had to muzzle her. The assistant tried to pick her up and then laid on her Dr y was not able to draw blood. This cost $178 even though no services were rendered. Dr y told me we aren't a good match. We need a clinic where our dog can be rendered unconscious. I agree with this. I was surprised to learn what a pet friendly visit means. Your pet must be docile or they leave . I believe the 5 minutes it took to scare my sweet husky was the most profitable. Well look for a local independent vet. As a follow up, the local vet we took our pup too is also fear free. Their version was to spend time building trust. Not the 'drug em, muzzle em and we'll try to do our work quickly' we experienced with Dr y and assistant. Frankly if I was drugged, muzzled, picked up and leaned on I'd growl too

It was difficult to find a veterinarian and office our family clicked with after our beloved vet retired. The reasons I trust Dr. Botsford and staff with my wonderful animals are #1. When my animals have an actual medical problem, Woodland fits them in. They are compassionate and quick. It's important to me that my animals are seen by the same vet that has their history when they need medical attention as is inevitable. Not only well visits and vaccinations. #2 Dr. Botsford and staff are gentle with my animals and my animals are not afraid after appointments. I have been to different vets in the interim between and I know my babies! They trust Dr. Botsford and staff. #3 Woodland and Dr. Botsford are unpretentious. My cat peed himself in the crate before an appointment. We tried to clean him up. Without hesitation Dr. Botsford picked up my cat and just took care of him! . We live on a farm and sometimes my animals may not be perfectly groomed. I feel no judgement, Only concern for the issue at hand. The office is very clean, but not fancy. The prices are reasonable and Dr. Botsford tells u options, recommending the most sensible. #4. I just opened up their Christmas card and it's SO CUTE! 6 dogs looking up at the camera at the same time, with a little kitten in the background. Dogs look smart and like they are loved . Background setting is behind the office desk. No costumes or poses. UNPRETENTIOUS! When we look for a Doctor to take care of our animal children, we don't need pictures with Santa or all that fluff! Our family needs a Doctor with old school values. A Doctor that really cares about animals. A Doctor who will see them when they're sick. I'm so grateful to have settled on Woodland Animal Hospital to care for our animals. I don't mind passing 10 other veterinarians on the way there! I'm very particular with the care of my animals. They can be rascals! Lord knows we need Dr. Botsford!
