Our table ordered a margherita pizza, a steak and burgers. We shared and had a good time, the burgers were the best. Service is unique, you order your food and drinks at the bar and also pick up your drinks yourself. The only thing they bring is your food. We were there one other time and I feel like this has been a change. The flights have also changed, for the wine flight you used to get a small glass, maybe a 2-3 ounce pour in each, well now your wine flight comes in 1 ounce shot glasses that you have to pour into a wine glass (I surely made a mess trying to pour!). It was nice and quiet when we first got there. About 20 minutes later there were 15-20 kids (5-9 I would guess) that walked in with their fathers (mothers were already there) it got pretty loud after that. read more

This review is actually for The Traditionalist, the distillery and restaurant in the back of Four Daughters. This was our first visit and we were so excited to come here for a full menu dinner and craft cocktails. We sat outside to enjoy the vineyard view. The food was so delicious. We started with a charcuterie, then the cheeseburger and ribeye special. We've tried different charcuterie boards over several visits here, and I love that they seem to change with the seasons. Hubby was delighted to see a ribeye on special and said it was cooked to perfection. My burger was juicy and the fries were crispy. Service at the bar was friendly as well. This place was great, and worth a drive. It is a wine bar with a fairly broad menu of food items. You order everything at the bar, and they bring the food to your table. We really enjoyed the various wine flights, which allows you to sample the various wines that are made on site. They have a great selection of appetizers and entrées. Great winery and option for a Father's Day lunch. We like the self-service model of picking our seat and helping ourselves to whatever we needed. Menu had a decent amount of items and was reasonably priced. We ordered all the pizzas and also the 4D Nachos. It was tasty. One of the pizzas was a bit too burnt though is the only feedback. Went here on a beautiful day in May to enjoy some good wine. When I arrived I was shocked they didn't have ANY furniture on their patio! There were only a few scattered uncomfortable picnic tables to choose from. Why on earth would they not have any seating outside? They had the doors open but that just made it warm inside. The lack of outdoor furniture greatly detracted from what could have been a delightful experience. Fantastic in every possible way! Thanks to my twin cities friends for this recommendation. The venue is just pristine and absolutely gorgeous inside and out. Nestled in the quiet countryside about a 20 minute drive from Rochester, this is a must stop for anyone traveling through the area. We enjoyed the Sunday brunch plate and a flight of reds along with some loon juice. The food here was creative and beautifully executed. Their wines were a perfect match. I was very impressed with most of the wines I sampled and stocked up with a half dozen bottles to take with me. We didn't taste any of the bourbons during our visit but did pick up a bottle to try later. The service and attentiveness here was on par with their excellent food and wines. Great service, big portions on the food we ordered and definitely enjoyed the bourbon. I personally am not a wine drinker and was glad there was other beverages to choose from. Everyone in our group that tried the wine enjoyed it as well. It was great that they had different flights so we could try many different kinds before choosing a glass. One thing we didn't like about this place is you did have to go up to the bars to order drinks, food or anything at all. They would bring food to your table but everything else you needed to go up to order. There was no wait staff to take orders or even come table to table. A beautiful Sunday spent at a beautiful winery. Our group of 12 had a wonderful experience sharing time together and enjoying great food. Portions were generous and shared between friends. The pizzas were unusual, the Cranberry Walnut Apple salad yummy. But the best was my non alcoholic specialty drink the BlackBerry Smash. (I was the designated driver). Covid update. No reservations. Seat yourself. Limited food menu. Order from the bar. You can open a tab for your table number, or you can pay per transaction. We were able to get a table for our party of 10 very easily p.m. on a Saturday night. There were a lot of people, so the lines to order did take some time. They were clearly understaffed. I don't fault them for that, as they were definitely trying and doing the best they could. Thankfully everyone was being polite to the staff, even though the booze was flowing (it is a winery after all). I had the burrata salad, which was good, but only filled me up temporarily as there was no protein. I did have to eat later. Drink of choice was The loon juice flight. My husband and I enjoyed a stop at Four Daughters while staying in Chatfield and touring Southeastern MN. We had no idea Loon Juice was made here until visiting, and I'm a big cider fan! Their menu is small (pizzas, charcuterie, a salad, one or two other apps and one dessert) but the Charcuterie we tried was a good value and wonderful variety to pair with differing wines! We did one white flight, one red flight (6 x 1-oz pours each for $10/flight) and the $20 Charcuterie plate at lunch time and we're stuffed. I liked being able to get cheeses, meats, and other items all on on Charcuterie and getting big enough portions I could share. The honey and the figs were awesome, as were the salty almonds and marinated olives. The format of ordering at the bar can get a tad chaotic when they're busy (we went on a Saturday) but I get the difficulty with staffing right now. We'd highly recommend this and only wish is wasn't raining so we could also enjoy the outdoor patio and gorgeous grounds! read more

Update - we tried again August 2022 - only because we were in MN for a family reunion again and some members of the family wanted their pizza. I will say their pizza is very good. And the place didn't smell as much of bad yeast as it did in 2021. But, the wines are still awful - really undrinkable. How can people choke them down? I can't believe the good reviews. No offense, but obviously, those people don't know anything about wine. And I don't like their "self-service" model. My brother-in-law and I decided to try their "mimosas." We were thinking, "how can they mess those up?" Oh, they can and they did. To save on sparkling wine, they added Loon Juice (hard cider) to the orange juice. Ugh. Wretched. The nachos were basically bbq kettle chips with honey mustard cheese sauce and jalapeños and somehow cost $20- not good. Pizza was okay but not worth $25. Could just be our taste but the bourbon flight was awful and we had five people try them all of whom said they were some of the worst tasting bourbons they have had. You also don't have a server, they bring out the food but you have to carry a flight and glass back to your table yourself. The staff was not friendly and there was an employee wearing a pink shirt that was openly condescending and rude to the girl taking our order. I had the Sangria slushy at Thursday's on first in Rochester and it was excellent. After trying it we decided to drive out to the winery to have dinner and try the loon juice flight. We were super excited and upon arrival there was plenty of parking, and it looked like a beautiful place with a promising menu. Unfortunately, the reason for the one star is that as soon as we sat down someone came out and told us that dogs are not allowed at the winery at all and left without any additional options or alternatives. This was not clear anywhere on their website. This was a random pit-stop for us as we were traveling from Minneapolis to St Louis for a solar eclipse. I was tired and jumpy, kids had way too much energy to sit in the car, and my husband said - enough! We r stopping here! Having been frequenting Napa and Sonoma wineries, I was a bit hesitant at first - we are in Minnesota after all, but as soon as I tasted their amazing full bodied dry red, I realized I have been missing out all this time! The winery dining room is spacious, modern and airy. The service - amazing. The patio is facing the winery, and you can grab your wine and go for a nice stroll. Nice place just outside of Rochester (around a 20-30 min drive). It's spacious and beautifully set up, with lots of interesting local wine options (as well as beer, cider, and sangria). Been here 3 times and have been satisfied with the drink options each time. Haven't tried the food but the menu looks pretty good as well! The service, however, definitely leaves something to be desired. So many times the wine glasses we've been served have looked dirty (nasty any day, but especially during a pandemic), and the servers I've encountered each time have just been so rude and unprofessional. The outdoors area is very much a seat yourself type situation, and when my friend and I were waiting for a table to be cleaned, we were told to step out of the way and go wait elsewhere (where? we were already outdoors and not in the server's vicinity). After about 15 min we asked when a table would be ready and were told that they weren't sure. Huh? I get it's busy but you'd think it'd be a priority with tons of people waiting. Tables just altogether weren't being wiped down, it was disgusting. Also, the payment processes are really inconsistent (there basically isn't a process). Sometimes a server will drop by your table, other times you go inside to order (when no one shows up lol, you never know what you're going to get), sometimes they'll leave you a tab, other times you pay inside. Who knows! This place has a lot of potential but service could really use some work. And, tell the staff to wear real masks, as in over the nose and none of that face shield stupidity. This was about 30 minutes south of Rochester and surprisingly there was not at all a large crowd despite a beautiful Saturday evening. They have both inside and outside seating and have changed to a "order at the register and take a number" format due to CoVID. I did the red and white tasting and also had the polygon rose. The staff was kind but the main reason for my three star review was I simply was not a huge fan of their wine. In the white tasting the only standouts for me were the white oak wine, the nude etude, and the moscato but none of these wines really blew me away. Most of the red wines were overpowered by a strong oak flavor. My favorites from the red tasting were the farm cab(which was a pretty average Cabernet in my mind) and the velvet hammer. The Pinot noir was overwhelmingly sweet for me. The polygon rose was probably my favorite wine that I had with a nice dryness to counterbalance the sweet strawberry notes. I by no measure consider myself a wine expert but was pretty underwhelmed by everything I had. If you're looking for a place to spend a nice day outside of Rochester and sip on some wine with pizza this is a good choice. I just wouldn't expect too much out of the wine. read more

We came here on Saturday afternoon and waited in a pretty big line since the place was super crowded. Thankfully there was one table left outside that we were able to get to enjoy our wine flight. We ordered one red white and one white flight. Surprisingly, we like the white wines better overall than the red wines. Because we also like sweet wines we ordered a bottle of the velvet Hammer.I liked that the each wine flight came out with a description about all of the wines. I also appreciated them writing down to not clean the wine glass between the different wines. The velvet Hammer was very good and not as great as some of my favorite California sweet wines. The food looked absolutely incredible!! I really wanted some pizza or their famous cake. Unfortunately that was too much dairy for my body to handle so we took a pass. Next time I'm definitely gonna do my best to try some pizza and some of that cake! If you can't have dairy there aren't very many options on the menu. It is awesome to be able to sit outside and see all of the vines with grapes on them on a beautiful fall day in October. read more

I came here on a hot Saturday afternoon and we sat outside. We were in direct sun which was a mistake because the service as others have noted is pretty slow. It wasn't super busy but our waitress brought us water and was very nice. The staff overall was really great and I just love the location. You are in the middle of nowhere surrounded by grapes- what could be better? It's very serene, I would have loved a cool water mister in the outdoor area as it was HOT. Their wine is one of my all time favorites. We all did a different flight and were able to sample many things. I ended up buying 2 bottles on the way out but wanted more. We tried Four Daughter's tonight after a recommendation from a friend. I wouldn't go back. When we walked in we got in line to get a table. The host at the host stand seated the two ladies in front of us (though he looked lost). As he was working on seating them, a second host slowly walked up to the stand while looking at the iPad (I assume with the seating chart), set it down, didn't acknowledge us and then walked away. When the first host returned, he refused to make eye contact and I had to call to his attention that we were standing in front of him. I asked about patio seating and he said there wasn't anything available. I told him we'd be willing to wait and asked him how long he thought it would be. He said he had no idea (we were the first people on his written waitlist). After waiting outside for 40 min, hubby went back in to inquire about the wait time. They still had no idea. We were seated around 15-20 min later. Food: Smoked trout dip--the dip is delicious and creamy. Pita chips were ok. Guacamole--not good. It had no flavor and the tortilla chips were stale. Sausage and peppadew pizza--by far the best dish of the night! Lots of flavor! Wait service--very, very slow. I'm sure it doesn't help that they don't have a dedicated patio server. Each server takes tables inside and outside. Wine, loon juice--I had the red wine flight. There were two that I thought were quite good but the rest were average. And they ruined the Pinot Noir by making it sweet. Hubby had the loon juice flight. They were all pretty similar except for the strawberry and the mint.
