The beer choices were on the light side, in which I should have insisted on a Guinness or a Kilkenny, instead of the local lager. It was all good, both in terms of taste, quantity, and good craic.

With a name like The Pickled Frog, how could you not stay here! Right on the western edge of town…read more(but in Hobart that's only 10 minutes walk away from the centre of town) you really can't miss the bright green building on Liverpool Street. Given the loud exterior, the interior is not quite what you'd expect. The common areas are warm and welcoming with plenty of overstuffed couches, booths and even hammocks and two (two!) fireplaces. It somehow manages to create the perfect hostel common area with lots of different spaces with quiet nooks and crannies where you can hide away with a book, and larger open spaces where you can meet some new friends. The rooms and bathrooms are aging but clean, but there definitely could have been more shower stalls and toilets for a hostel this size. I'd love some more hooks or a bench in the shower stalls, and more than one sink in the upstairs bathroom - prepare for toothbrushing dances when when the hostel is full!

The bed was so hard it reminded my of a night in my youth when I curled up on the pavement to have a little nap - I am pretty sure I had a better night's sleep back then. I could not wait to get the hell out of there. I wished I'd had a stilnox on me so I could knock myself out. Sadly I didn't and woke up on average once an hour until I finally got up and hauled @ss outta there to the Henry Jones Art Hotel for breakfast where I tried to erase the memories of the previous night with their gorgeous buffet. I was in a one bedroom apartment and I don't know if other rooms are better, I expect not. For the same money you can stay at the Grand Chancellor and there are so many other options in the area. Visited Australia earlier this year and stayed in several hotels during my trip. All of which had…read moresome fault with them. Of the three though, I would consider my stay at Macquarie Manor to be the best of the lot. This hotel is located in the Hobart CBD on Macquarie Street. It is not at the corner, but a couple buildings away from it and across the street from the Travelodge. Part of the reason why I decided to book this hotel was that it was a boutique heritage hotel. The building was built in 1875 and has Edwardian architecture. It was originally the home of a surgeon and then used as a venue of Hobart's high society so there is a lot of history in these walls. Upon arriving to the hotel for my stay, I checked in at the lounge area in front of the dining room. The hotel's dining room restaurant is affiliated with Nant, a local whisky distillery. Going back to why I booked this hotel, the other reason was that the rooms are huge. I got a standard room that was over 300 square feet with high ceilings and space for an elegant sofa and table. My room was actually in the annex part of the hotel as an extension was built to expand on the original building. Heading up to my room, I had to go through an annex walkway. It is unheated, so it was quite cold during the winter. The room's bathroom was also a bit chilly, so I would close it to contain the warm air when you turn the room's heater on. The room was the most comfortable one that I stayed in. Mostly because of the size. The room's interior and bathroom still looks rather new like they did a renovation recently. As for the cons, the free hotel Wi-Fi wasn't working well in my room for most of my stay. I had to head into the main building to get a good connection to login. And I was unable to try out the restaurant during my stay as it seemed like they were having staffing issues. It was the winter season, so that was understandable. Still it would have been nice to have been able to stay in and enjoy a steak and whisky dinner here when it was cold out. The Wi-Fi and restaurant issue were minor though compared to the billing issue that I had to deal with after my stay. I pre-paid for the room prior to my stay, but I noticed a double charge on my credit card after I returned back to Seattle. After going back and forth with the hotel about this snafu without success, I contacted the online travel agency I booked the room through to resolve the problem with the hotel. The charge was refunded, but it left a bad taste about my stay here. If there was an issue, I feel it should have been brought up during my stay or upon checkout. Overall, I liked my stay for the most part at Macquarie Manor. The location is great and the size of the rooms plus the historical aspect of the building are key selling points. Though given the billing issue I dealt with, I would recommend booking directly through the hotel's website rather than a travel agency.

We were house sitting in Kingston for 2 weeks, so we'd pop into Hobart a few nights a week for some fun. We bar hopped all over the city, but the Telegraph stayed our consistent favorite. Almost every time we paid it a visit, we were in for a wild night. The pub itself it's a moderately large lay out equipped with full bar, kitchen, pool room, and a lengthy outdoor smoking patio with tables. The bartenders were all very friendly and almost instantly took us in as their own. Since we were fresh off the boat from the states, everyone fell in love with our naivety towards all things Aussie not to mention Tassie. We were given a full crash course on proper Aussie drinking. And not only that, all of our travel suggestions wound up coming from the bartenders and local clientele as well! After finishing up our stint in Kingston, we decided to put a little more time in with Hobart and it's surrounding areas. If it weren't for our friends at the Telegraph, we probably would've moved on much sooner. We truly did see the area on a local level, which is the best experience to hope for when traveling. P.S. Rooms are basic, with mini fridge, hanging space and bed. Heaps of accessible power points. Fun 'public space' with bar and coffee machine. Amazingly central location, with pubs, restaurants and retail all close by. Salamanca a ten minute stroll, close to skybus stop 5. Def not a luxury hotel, but loved my stay!

Alabama Hotel is located so close to Woolworths, where I bought my snack supplies from. I parked my car at the 24 hr parking place which was about 5 minutes walk from the hotel. As I walked up the stairs at the hotel, I could see some hanging flamingos and a cafe. The reception desk was located inside the cafe area. Alamaba Hotel also has a balcony with some tables and chairs to hang out at. I was given a handmade soap and a towel, enough amenities for my two days stay. They also prepare free water at the corridor that I could bring to my room. The room was really cozy with a heater, fan, and a working desk. One of the most important things for me is the number of power points that a hotel room has. I comfortably charged my power bank, camera and phone at the same time! I was incredibly grateful for electricity and free Wi-Fi that they provided. The shared bathroom was spotless and most of the time I didn't have to share it with other people. Mind you, it was an off peak season when I was there. Alabama Hotel is an excellent place for staycation around Hobart area and provided a comfortable stay for a budget hotel. It's one of people's favorite places to stay when there's music or food festival in Tasmania. Just make sure to book in advance to secure your spot.

Adding to the noise, local hoons use the road out the front as part of a racing circuit of a night continuously driving at speed with very loud exhausts. The windows are not sealed well and I can hear wind and noise coming through them. The last time I stay here. The Crown Plaza will get my business going forward.
