Despite multiple emails and opportunities to reconsider, the school declined to provide an interpreter. Instead, we were told to rely on written communication, tablets, and "extra time," which are not effective or equitable substitutes for real-time ASL access. This does not provide meaningful communication for Deaf adults, especially during an important process like evaluating a potential school for our children. We were also told we could "bring our own interpreter," which shifts the burden of accessibility onto families rather than meeting basic inclusion standards. We left the interaction feeling that the school was not prepared to support the communication needs of Deaf parents. Accessibility should not be optional, and it should not depend on families paying out-of-pocket to participate. I hope the school takes this feedback seriously and re-evaluates its approach to serving Deaf and hard-of-hearing families in the future.

After taking the rest of the year to reflect and monitor the progress and improvements, I am happy to write a new review. The school has been in what seems to be a transitionary phase with the principle and other school leaders. In the beginning of the year, I had no confidence that the ship was heading in the right direction. Since October, the principle and rest of the staff have really proven that this is the A school that it is rated. Mr. Ballone had personally taken an interest in our child after our concerns in the beginning of the year and really showed integrity and compassion for what he is doing. Our daughter was in the first grade, and we have nothing but great things to say about her teacher, and the others that we have encountered. While we wish we had taken advantage more, I love the policy that you are allowed to go and eat lunch with your children. This is a neat thing to do.
