Celebrating women artists and creators the dual museum/store features all women artists (go figure) with many of them local. This is my favorite gallery in Austin for the following reasons:…read more 1. The curatorships, collaborations, and openings are inspired and well thought out. 2. The gallery celebrates Texas women artists as well as women artists in general, two subjects that have vastly been overlooked for centuries upon centuries by art circles. I've discovered remarkable talents such as Lisa Ludwig and Sarah Lasley through a show called "Sugarcoated" back in May, which, pointing back to point #1, served pink champagne, frosted animal cookies and doughnut holes instead of the stuffy wine and cheese fare more typically associated with a gallery opening. 3. They encourage new talent, giving several opportunities a year to participate in showings alongside relatively established artists. For $40 you can join as a friend of the organization and have four images of your own art included in their online slide registry project. I believe there is a discounted rate for students and educators. 4. The giftshop kicks ass. Can I say ass? Most of it is tangible, practical art made by local artists or women artists elsewhere. Some of it is less than practical, such as the felt orange bird with pink feathers spewing out of the tail I purchased last Saturday. There's a fantastic selection of books on women artists and some really unique jewelry. Why would you buy anything from a department or corporate store again with such quality, and the money going directly back into the hands of the lady that made them?

This business was a fantastic addition to Main St. I was so happy when they opened as it not only had nice affordable art and gifts that area residents could buy but they also had lots of classy and reasonably priced thigs that visitors could get to remind them of the cool teip to this town. When I moved here 6 years ago I felt there were enough artists and non-MAGA types to color this city purple. Evidently, It's the vociferous narrow-minded minority that can make so much racket as to cause us to sadly lose this business. I suggest they go look for a spot on or near the Georgetown square.

THE OWL WINE BAR & HOME GOODS…read more OH. MY. STARS. Someone apparently sat down and said: "You know what this town needs? A wine bar AND a thrift/home-goods store." And somewhere, without even knowing why... I felt a disturbance in the universe. Because this place is basically the ultimate TW combination. First things first: don't let "Wine Bar" scare off my fellow non-wine people. I'm not much of a wine drinker either, and they have PLENTY of beer. But here's where things get fun... Almost EVERYTHING around you is FOR SALE. The chair you're sitting in? Possibly for sale. That cool piece of décor you keep staring at? Check the price tag. The furniture? Yep. Basically, with the exception of the actual bar and bar stools, you're having drinks inside a full-blown thrift/home-goods shop. AWWEEEE SHITTTT. Now THIS is my kind of drinking establishment. The whole place has a funky, comfortable, eclectic vibe, and our server was incredibly fun and engaging. The kind of person who adds to the experience rather than simply dropping off your drinks. They also have something going on practically every day of the week, including happy-hour specials, ladies' nights and other events. One that especially caught my attention: Vinos & Vinyls on Fridays. Bring your own records and enjoy some drinks. HOW FUN IS THAT?! Prices were very reasonable, too. And then... I discovered the patio. Now, Texans have already made it abundantly clear that normal people do not voluntarily eat or drink outside when it's approximately the temperature of Satan's front porch. Doug and TW? "Can we sit outside?" Of course we can. We grabbed our drinks, headed to the patio and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We didn't try the food/snacks this visit, so I can't review those yet. And yes, I said yet. Because we are ABSOLUTELY coming back. Drinks Thrifting Fun atmosphere Great service Reasonable prices Outdoor patio Seriously... what else do I need? Well, maybe another beer and whatever piece of furniture I've accidentally decided I can't live without. And now for the important part... TW'S REAL PANTS RATING: -- 4 out of 5 Real Pants Would I leave the campground and put on real pants to come back? HECK YES. Four pants proudly awarded. We'll save that fifth pair until we come back, try some snacks, drink another beer... and see whether I accidentally leave owning the chair I was sitting in.
