My significant other has two life insurance policies through this agency, that before sitting down with an agent we would have never known was even an option. Got a call from a "Lisa". Extremely nice lady. But when you ask the hard questions like, "Can you send me a URL to the job description? What is the salary range we are looking at?" And those cannot be answered, you know something was up. Then the "come on in and we will see what you are qualified for" is said, then you know it is time to say thank you but no thank you. You called me, You have seen my resume, you are trying to sell me on a Union Benefits Rep position but really don't have hard black and white email description, I'm sorry, I am not going to put myself out there. Lets also remember I have been a corporate professional for the past 10 years; you don't need to remind me to "dress professionally" for an interview. They brought me in for a job interview. I had submitted my resume based on their ad on Craigslist.com which said they were looking for an office clerk. The appointment was set for 10am on Wednesday the 5th of March. I showed up and interviewed with this guy named David, he was a nice guy, big white dude with a ponytail. So David tells me a little about what the office clerk position will have me doing; basically I would be calling people who submit resume's, people from resume building sites such as monster, etc which would allow him to focus on hiring some union rep for the company or something around those lines. I say I can do that, I have plenty experience doing clerical work so I can handle these tasks no problem. So after the interview, David says cool, he likes me for the job, and that he likes some other things on my resume and would like me to come in later that day in order to hear a presentation on what is expected of applicants, how we get paid, and all this other stuff, I say cool. So I come in around 2pm, and what do I get, do I get this office clerk job? and I here for the orientation for the office clerk job? NOPE, I get presentation on how the firm sells insurance, and how much money I could be making if I join their sales team, and how I could be bringing home $3000 a month, etc, etc...... I tell the presenter that the reason I was there was because I was told about this office clerk job, and that this insurance sales thing is just not something I could do given my current school schedule. The office clerk job which I was being interviewed for earlier would be perfect for my situation though so I would like to do that if indeed that position was ever available, it was not. So here I am, brought in under the ruse of a potential job which fit perfectly into my schedule, which was something I could easily do while squeezing in some of my studies, here I am being told about the responsibilities that come with this job that I have been brought in for, and all of a sudden it is dropped on me that it never even existed, it is dropped on me that they have completely WASTED my damn time. This review is for my agent Victor S. I had been thinking of life insurance for a little while now but was not looking forward to dealing with a sleezy fast talking "agent". I had heard about Victor through a friend and he swore to me that he was not one of those agents. I called Victor to setup an appointment and he accommodated my schedule perfectly. When Victor came over he was very polite and made sure that all my questions were answered to the tee. I did not want to purchase a policy right away and Victor did not push me at all. When I was ready I called him back and he came over to finalize everything. The whole process was smooth and I don't think I could have had a better experience. Was contacted by their representative who kept calling me the wrong first name and asking me to verify personal security information. When I told him after the 5th time I was a female and my name wasn't Scott, he got snippy and told me he didn't know because he didn't have a picture of me. When I questioned him further, I was told He told me he was just going to cancel my policy and hung up on me. I've been calling back the number he called from as well as the 888 number listed on the website and it gives me business hours, but of course no one picks up but this stupid recording, and it tells me to press zero for the operator...which I do and the voicemail is full. I would not call this company a SCAM and I will explain why. First of all, stuff like these are legal. SCAM is something illegal. Deception and using sneaky language is a big part of the sales business so I really do not know why people get mad about that later when they should know this firsthand. Of course they will not tell you everything over the phone just like they will not tell you everything about the insurance they are selling or when you buy a product that has all kinds of bogus claims in the front or supplements you buy that claim they will do this and that. They hire a big wave of people and see who stays. They have nothing to lose actually when they hire. Their hiring process is not the same as lets say another non sales job would be. If you stay, they make money, if you do not, someone else will replace you. The only difference between AIL and car insurance companies, is that car insurance is the law. You have to buy it. That is all. How often do you use your car insurance? How often do you have accidents, or get hit by someone else? Rarely, I would so, but you still need coverage. You keep paying, and if you a very good driver, you would never use that money that you put in the pockets of insurance companies. Life insurance companies use the same excuse, "oh, what will you do, if you become disabled or if you die prematurely?" This and that. I too was skeptical about AIL. I applied on Craigslist about 2 months back and received a phone call to come in for an interview. I understood the position I was applying for so I was well aware of what I was getting myself into, but that's with any other job. It is true, they don't provide you with a great amount of information over the phone but that's what the interview is for. Yes they do remind interviewees to dress professionally, but you'd be amazed at how many people don't. Don't be offended, and don't take life so seriously. The interview is like any other interview. If you get a call back to come in for a second interview, you will attend an orientation and this is where you will see if this is something that is meant for you or not. The long term benefits are what appealed to me. Any company that is willing to take care of me in the long run is a company I would put my blood, sweat, and tears into. As a representative, you have the ability to truly help protect families by educating and informing them of the necessity of filling in financial gaps before it's too late. The point is to create awareness so that families can better prepare for their future. To make it in this company, you have to be passionate about wanting to work hard and helping to make a difference. This career is very hard because it takes a lot of time, and it can be discouraging at first, but it's all "mind over matter." Good luck to everyone who is continuing to look for their career. I recently posted my resume on several websites. Today I received a call from Johanna from "American Income", who wanted me to interview tomorrow morning for a position that could be "anywhere from entry-level to management" because the hiring managers "saw (my) resume and wanted to bring (me) in." I was told to wear business attire, to which I replied "of course." Odd to be told to wear business attire to a job interview. I was caught off guard and agreed, and was promised an email with their address and a confirmation request. That email arrived minutes later, but from a no-reply email address, sent by "Mitchell" and not Johanna. The interview location is 51 miles away from my home. This lead to some internet research, where I came upon numerous websites describing this company as a pyramid scheme, scam, pay-to-work, and so on. I also tried to find their location represented on a map (typed their name into Google along with the city), and could not. I then gave Johanna a call back, asking for details. The reason I couldn't find them on a map was because they had just moved into the building (very convenient, right?). I was not applying or interviewing for any position in particular. I did not ask why I had been sent a confirmation email from a no-reply/do not reply email address. Maybe I should have, just to get an answer for you guys. I lastly inquired if this company was "American Income Life Insurance" and she responded that it was. I cancelled the interview. I got a call from American Income Life for an interview a couple of days ago. They told me they got my resume off of Hotjobs.com, which I had recently updated. I have been looking for work for a while now so I was excited for the opportunity to interview with them. I did some research on the company, their website looked good but on further investigation I started to see scam pop up on my searches. I checked out the reports of scams and unscrupulous business practices and decided to call the woman who initially contacted me for the interview. I was very polite and said that I just had a few questions before I was to come in for the interview. I asked about training and whether or not it was paid or not. A simple question that should have gotten a simple answer. Instead what I got was outrage and accusation. The woman, Rebecca was her name said that I was making demands and that my questions would be answered at the interview. She said I was being demanding at least three times, I only ask one question one time quite politely. After that she said that I was the one out of work and I needed them and they didn't need me. I did get in that I had researched the company and that it is obviously a scam and I would not be at the interview tomorrow and please take me off of any list they might have. A potential employer has never treated me so badly on the phone in my life. Rude is too nice of a word for the way I was treated. My advice for anyone who is contacted by them for a job interview is to hang up on them. Save yourself time and effort, there's a reason why the words American Income Life and scam come up on Google searches for them. Also Rebecca claimed American Income Life was on hotjobs top 100 companies to work for but no such list exists. She also claimed that the company was opening a new Concord branch and that they had a budget of 3 million dollars to work with. I can't speak to the interview process which seems to not be as smooth as some people would like since I was hired at a different office that does things differently. So I'll give feedback on my experience working within the company. About a year ago I was looking to move out of my position as a commercial finance specialist. A friend of mine was in management at AIL and suggested I come in for an interview. I wasn't sure what to expect as I didn't know much of anything about unions or insurance. I found positive feedback on the company on line and from other people. Turned out the company has been around forever and has long standing relationships with the majority of unions in the U.S. so I gave it shot. It's worked out really well for me. I chose the sales route and there are other positions opening up from time to time. What I like about the sales position is that the hours are super flexible and that there are clear paths to move into management if you choose to. Plus getting paid weekly is really nice and of course the residuals. I can't speak to other positions because I haven't worked those. Also because the company is nationwide and it's simple to transfer. I transferred here form the Long Beach office and may have to transfer again soon so it's nice to know I have a job waiting for me wherever I move to in the country. Culture is also important to me because I didn't have the best experiences at my previous employers and it's actually a fun environment and everyone is great about being supportive and helping one another out. There's always someone I can call. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because although I'm having fun and I like what I'm doing it's not perfect. It's still a grind and requires a lot of work. There's no magic or big secret to it like any other job out there but I've found this one makes all my effort worth it. read more

I went in only to be told that there was a miscommunication about how many people were expected for interviews, and could I please watch a presentation about the company to make sure that I wanted to work there before my interview? The presentation was basically why selling life insurance is the place to be, and completely irrelevant to me. An hour and a half and no interview later, I was told that they'd filled the position that morning and that unless I wanted to make an appointment for a different day to interview for a sales position, I could go. They didn't bother to call me and tell me that the position was filled, or even to let me know when I checked in. I had worked here for a few years, though am now moving out of state for reasons that are my own, and I can say without hesitation it is hardly a "scam". I read the reviews posted by other helpers and am a bit discouraged on the fact that they would be so willing to bash a company sheerly on merit that they are not used to the experience that they found upon visiting for but the interview. The legitimacy of ail is not a rational argument against application, a willingness to work, learn, and break free from your own perceived comforts to achieve success. The discrepancies you may notice within the interview process is steeped in the fact that an entry level position is applied to by an immense potential worker pool, from the first time worker, to professional looking to change careers and countless scenarios in between. My father who is in his eighties got a call from this company, but they said they were from the "Union," and he was entitled to free benefits from them, like medical and dental. When my dad asked what union he was talking about he said I'll tell you when I meet with you. My dad scheduled an appointment with him and it turns out it was an agent of this company. My dad later had second thoughts and wanted to cancel. He didn't get the name of the person or their phone number. I was there when the agent came 45 minutes late and I told him that my dad wasn't interested. He seemed surprised and said that my dad was going to get free benefits from the "Union." When I asked him what union, he didn't answer. I asked for a phone number from his company and he gave me his card, which turns out to be American Income Life Insurance, not the Union. read more

Very unhappy with American Income Life.. I've sent many requests for policy reviews. and heard no response. when we did try to make a claim once it was denied. when we ask questions we get the run around. we've asked to cancel the policy for helping when you're out of work and keep the life insurance policy. we get the run around . have to do that with the home office in TX., cant get them to call us back. BUT they have no problem taking our payment out of our account every month. Dont recommend this co. to anyone. Just hope if we ever need to use the life insurance it wont be so hard.for survivors. When agent is told, "No, thank you," several times, they begin to throw a barrage of reasons to counter your emphatic assertion of No. 3. Agent will make underhanded digs at your parenting when you decline their product. Direct quote from Agent, "Well, you haven't gotten her the protection before now..." 4. When told you will call back after carefully and thoroughly researching the company, you are told she would be disobeying her boss if she were to accept of desire to sign up for the insurance after she left. All decisions must be made then within the hour of her visit. 5. Research reveals this is nothing more than a spin-off of Torchmark's other insurance subsidiaries, namely, Globe Life. This is the worst employer I ever had. I was hired to work as an insurance agent and while I studied to get my licence they asked me to make transalations. We agreed on a price per word for those translations. I even moved to another city because they asked me to (and of course I paid the moving). Well once moved and the translations done they began telling me a lot of lies and had no more work for me and never paid the bills for the translations (I got only the first bill paid before the moving). So they still owe me over $6000...!!! I went to court and the court agreed with me. However by the time I got the judgment the had closed their Montreal office and didn't react to the judgment since you cannot have a Quebec judgment executed in Nova Scotia... Aflac may be pricey but they do not give you the run around like American Income Life. They automatically deny a claim that has nothing to do with what you wanted to claim. I was called in for an "interview" and was told that I had posted my resume Monster and they wanted me to come in for an "Office Manager or Customer Service" position. I checked this site and several more to get a feel for the company and to see if it would be a good move from my current job. Well after reading these reviews I was worried and I didn't want to waste my time. So I called Temeka back just to make sure I wasn't going to get caught up in some insurance sells mess. I explained to Temeka that I had no interested in selling life insurance and if that is why she called me, then I needed to cancel my appointment. Temeka assured me that it was not a sells position and she explained to me that the sells agents have to have training. She also said that I was interviewing for a position in Tucker, GA for the office manager. I was still worried because I was going to be using my own personal time from my current job and I hate to waist my vacation time unless I am on vacation. Well I went to the interview and just as I suspected it was a "cattle call" I was there with 20 others who received the same call. I HATE CATTLE CALLS! But I said well you are here at least stay and see what they are talking about. So I waited with the rest of the Heard! We were all asked to sit in a small room and complete a survey. The survey was missed spelled and wasn't worded correctly and had nothing to do with Office Manager, Customer service or Sells. So now comes a lady who told us that it was going to be a 90 min. "speech" and that Ms. Chuli does not like for people to interrupt her when she is talking so if anyone can't stay for 90 mins then they need to leave now and come back another day. I wanted to leave again! but I stayed to see what they had to say. Well Ms. Chuli comes in and starts off with a video and a WHOLE LOT OF SIDE TALKING. And more videos! And she follows up everything she said with OK. If I had a dollar for every time she said "K" of OK I would be rich!!! Now she goes on and on about how great the company is and how they only had 1 part time customer service position and 1 office manager position coming in the future in Macon, GA and everything else is a sells position and after the 90 min. speech they wanted to interview each person for the sells position. By now I am heated, because I NEVER WANTED A SELLS POSITION!! Nor did I have any plans on moving to Macon Ga. So at this point I am extremely up set. Well before I could say anything a guy in the back of the room raises his hand and says he has to leave. Well you could see Ms. Chuli was not happy with this but she "allowed" him to leave. As I sat there 5 more mins I finally said I am leaving also. She was pissed by now and started giving a speech about how she can't have people interrupting her and she is moving as quickly as possible and she will not have any more interruptions, as I walked past her out the door. So I am writing this review to inform people that they are a SCAM they want you to sell insurance on a commission, buy a lab top for their software, and they have no other positions at all, they just tell you that to get you in the door and then hold you hostage for 90 mins! I am so mad that they couldn't be up front with me when I called back and asked them if this was a sells position, it could have saved me 5 hours of my personal vacation time from my current job and gas money! Don't fall for it unless this is what you are looking to do! I don't like to work for people who lie to me right off the bat who knows what else they are lying about??? First of all, I am from Canada and worked for AIL for more than a year give or take. I really have to disagree with the people who keep on saying to AIL is a scam or avoid at all cost, because it is not. I made 68k within a year and I work 1 week a month on road trips and go to the office for "training" on Monday and Thursdays. When I first started, I put in minimum 60 hours / week without being paid A PENNY for about a month because I was bad at this position. However, I then learned how to sell and started to make some cash by selling insurance products. The money you can make with AIL is real, the selling script is real, the product is real, and the ignorance fool who expect this to be an easy job scoring 40k + / year is real as well. However, I strongly suggest EVERYONE to stay away from this company if you are not determined enough to get through the hard part, which is the beginning. Because what's gonna happen is you are gona end up complaining AGAIN online. Although the money was real. I still chose to leave the company because of the following reasons. Basically this is a pyramid scheme sales company, your boss does not make a penny if you dont make a dime. So guess what? Of course they be forcing you to get out there to set appointments, collect referrals and even for the hope to get a sale when everyone is very UNDER-TRAINED. My "official" first three sales came from my manager who allowed me to load the sale under my name and pay her cash for herself to be be able to stay on the "manager bonus level", then I was told I had to stay at 15%, which is the maximum bonus percentage by uploading minimum $1,100 Annualized Life Premium per week (annual premium charged on life policies). So my real first and second sale came from my parents and my aunt because I had to somehow stay on the bonus level as my manager told me so. Sooner I was promoted to a "manager" myself, and I took a peek at the agent contract and found out the real reason that my manager wanted me to stay on 15% bonus was for herself to make more money in her own pocket. The hiring process needless to say is complete bullshit. In Canada, they spam hiring ads on craigslist and monster.ca and I meant THEY SPAM IT. In fact, I was spamming it when I was a manager because they more active agent you have, the deeper your pocket goes. Oh, on top of that, a manager makes 200% the money you make when you make a sale for six weeks. For example, if you make $500 a week, your manager makes $1000 for week just by you working your ass off, and that last six weeks. So don't be surprised why your manager doesnt seem to be as close once the six week gap closes :D Also, when I was a manager, I got these so called "company lead resumes". Another brilliant bull shit that AIL pulled out from its shady ass, these resumes are at least six month old, if not older, and MANY OF THEM, I MEANT MANY, actually never applied for a job with AIL. AIL just somehow got their information/ resume from those job hunting websites. The selling procedure is another bull shit. My regional manager said he thinks everyone should have a product from AIL. In fact, in Canada, I could name at least 5 company that offers better life products compared to AIL. The only advantage that AIL has, is the fact that their underwriting is easy to pass unless you have some serious health condition like cancer. You may still be rated with HBP or diabetes . I used to go to houses where the clients were 75 years old and 78 years old and have more than 50k each in their life policies. And my regional manager had the gut to tell me to walk in that house and tell them with true passion that THOSE COUPLE NEED MORE COVERAGE. For fuck sakes, by putting their money in the bank, they get even more money back by the time they pass away. I was too fed up with all the mind washing they were doing to me and decided to quit because I got accepted into Med School. Then my regional manager came up to me and asked me to stay because he cares about me and in fact the whole AIL cares about me for joke sake. They care because I was a producing agent that feed their tummy. So he asked me, "why do you bother with education when you can make so much?" HELLLLLLLLLLLLLO? 100K MAX for average sales agents. A doctor easily make triple than that, on top of that, I get to REALLY HELP PEOPLE instead of lying in their face and staying on the script just for them to pull out that god damn cheque book and make everyone happy. My regional manager, asked me, to postpone med school for a year. That was the most ridiculous statement that any rational human being would make. So I asked him, "how many people in this office have a life product with AIL? How much does most people in our office make? and most importantly, Who fucked up your brain so bad that you would even dare to ask me to postpone med school for an insurance sales agent position?"
