Parking in the area was $20 at a lot across the street. Not terrible for a Friday night in LA, but still worth mentioning. Your ticket includes skate rental and one drink, so we grabbed a Paloma (the other option was not available) which hit the spot. Unfortunately, the skating surface was a bit of a letdown--treaded hard plastic mats that didn't offer a smooth ride. It took a lot of effort to move and wasn't beginner-friendly. Plus there was a tricky spot that tripped up more than a few skaters. The biggest surprise was the low energy overall--music was pretty quiet, and the vibe felt more relaxed than festive. We expected more of a party atmosphere for a Friday night rooftop in the heart of LA. It was still fun to do something different and hang out with our group, but unless they upgrade the floor or amp up the energy, it's probably a one-and-done for us. There was also free jazz in the courtyard. There were a couple of food trucks and lots of seating. The outside views from the gallery are awesome. The collection is outstanding however I didn't like the random displays which made no sense whatsoever. Most museum galleries are organized by sections but not here, which made it very confusing. The building is also very loud due to all the hard surfaces. The windows cased glass cases to be hard to see into and backlit a lot of the works. Some of the information tags were so hard to find we had to image search the works for more info. There were also not enough benches in front of the art. As someone who grew up sitting in museums drawing the works this is a major bummer. I feel like they have a lot more art that used to be on display that's just not there. The Egyptian section was very small and I was unable to find my favorite painting. It felt very heavy on the modern art. Which is my least favorite. The Erewhon cafe is expensive, the only thing around and is giving let them eat cake, the gift shop is also horrendously high priced and pretentious. Gucci stationary anyone? I do truly like art, I have a fancy piece of paper that claims I know stuff & things about it, and I like experimentation. Sadly though, this building doesn't feel like it celebrates the art inside. It celebrates itself and the view of the street below it. It might be interesting architecture, but I don't feel it's serving its function to the best of its ability. I thought it was a timed entry but it is not...or it wasn't when we went. I followed the parking sign on the wall which led me to a lot just a little north of the museum. It was $20 to park there. Had I had more time to plan, I may have parked somewhere else as I felt that was a bit steep. I'm assuming metered parking would be hard to find in that location as it is in the heart of Hollywood. I thought it would be similar to the Museum of Illusions in New York, but rather than a museum feel, this was purely just photo ops. You can rent tripods at the front for $10. They also provide free lockers for your bags and stuff- which I would highly recommend. I didn't take up the offer in the beginning but soon realized that was a better option. I would also like to highly recommend and thank Tim! He showed us the ropes of how to take photos and he took some photos for us. He was friendly, professional and patient with my two young kids. He definitely knows his way around an iPhone camera and showed me some tricks I didn't even know. Tim's photos came out a lot better than mine as you need to find the perfect angle for the pictures to have that illusion effect. The tickets I purchased online also allowed us to go to the giant house next door and the upside down house. Tim came to the rescue again and took some amazing photos for us in the upside down house. I lean into the doorway and see the rest of the tour - 4 other women right there. So half the tour was 3 minutes "late" and they decided to start, weird but moving on. The woman leading the tour was really quite lovely and I wasn't expecting the house to be so amazing since I was focused on the garden part but I really loved learning about the house and original inhabitants. We are asked several times if we want to join the meditation but I'm getting culty vibes and we keep politely declining. Once we are outside, we are asked again if we would like to join the meditation and now the gray haired man is with us again and I said, "No, we really just wanted to see the gardens." At this point he says, "Oh the gardens are closed." I'm completely confused again and said, "What? But that's why we came-- to see the gardens & labyrinth." He then says, "Oh! well the labyrinth is open but the gardens are closed." At this point I think they asked us to join the meditation again. I asked when they expected them to be opened and the response was June of this year, maybe because there have been a lot of delays. Again, weird, but okay we just want to walk the labyrinth. There were a couple of other women walking it and then our group of three joined too. I'm halfway thru it and I look up and see the gray haired man STARING at us - which included 3 preteens/teens in halter tops posing and taking pix - and I was so incredibly creeped out. I had no idea what to do, cross the labyrinth? ask him what he is staring at? I came to this place to ground and do something calming and now I have a man staring at me and other women but since everyone else was looking down or at their phone, they didn't notice so I didn't want to disrupt THEIR experience. Eventually he went away, to join the meditation I guess. We finished the labyrinth and left. It was only $6 but since it didn't mention the gardens were closed on the website or ticket, I am asking for a refund. Would I go again when the gardens are open? Yes. Would I recommend to others? Yes. Would I advise against it as a single woman? Also yes. I will update if they refund us or not.

I thought it was peaceful and calm, it was like a very small version of Self-Realization as there were grassy areas and benches to sit and relax and meditate. You can explore many exhibits inside the observatory at no cost. We walked around the ground floor and the lower level, and there's actually a lot to see. There's also a free shuttle bus running every 10 minutes, which is super convenient. You can also get here by car or public transportation. From the hill, you get stunning panoramic views of Los Angeles -- I highly recommend coming before sunset to catch the golden hour and take amazing photos. The view of the Hollywood sign is also very good from here. Inside, there's a café and a gift shop, so you can easily spend a few hours here. Just keep in mind that access inside depends on opening hours: Tuesday-Friday: 12 PM - 10 PM Saturday-Sunday: 10 AM - 10 PM Monday: Closed We've been here several times and highly recommend visiting when the observatory is open inside. If you drive, parking is about $10 per hour. On the way back, I recommend walking down one of the trails -- it's a great experience with beautiful views. Also, if you're planning to hike closer to the Hollywood sign, be prepared: bring water and wear comfortable shoes -- it's about a 4-mile hike. Such an iconic LA spot that's absolutely worth visiting!
