I have never been compelled to write a review on this site before, but the fact that I could not express my displeasure through not tipping in London made me want to find another way.
Bear in mind when reading this, I live with several servers, so I am sympathetic to the service industry in general. Also, I am very easygoing, I let most things slide, but the service was so terrible it bordered on the absurd.
When I walked in, I asked for a veggie pizza and a coke. Another waiter came by and asked if I wanted a coffee, to which I replied that I was just getting a coke. Behind the counter, he and the first waiter ended up sniggering together, which I got a strong sense was at my expense, but I let it slide, it could have been anything. I got my meal, read some news articles on my phone, and, eager to get back to the museum, asked a waitress for my check. It was hard to believe when I read it, but the check read, "Veg. Pizza x1 Cock Big x1" The waitress came back, and I asked her to read it for me, to which she apologized and said that it wasn't for me. She ended up taking the check behind the counter and showed it to one of the first two waiters that I had.
Honestly, I don't expect any potential customer to read this review about a cafe whose main attraction is its proximity to the British Museum; I really hope that this message gets back to the staff. I realize that it was as likely as not that I was merely caught in some inside joke crossfire, but I was baffled when the girl returned and apologized again for the other two. That was kind of her, but it was pathetic for the two waiters to hide behind her skirt. At least one of them should have come to my table, explained, and apologized face-to-face like a man.
And for the customers, the pizza was also soggy and disgusting. There are lots of other places to eat nearby, choose any one of them. read more
