Dave helped me for several years with my taxes. Great advice each year and took away the headache from me. He helped me with individual and my business taxes. Always calm, detailed, diligent and recommending the best for me. Much appreciated! read more

It's a bit sad when getting the great service I received from Fortunate Fields and Dave Yoshida was a pleasant surprise rather than the norm. Any outfit dealing with customers should be striving to match the great customer service Dave and his team provide. I scheduled an appointment with Dave based on the prior Yelp reviews because I needed assistance on part of my personal income tax that was complicated. Dave's assistant greeted me at the door and asked if I'd like a refreshment. She put me right at ease despite my financial anxiety. Dave was friendly and patiently and clearly explained how my tax situation worked out and why certain parts of my income were taxable or not. He certainly knows his stuff about the US Tax Code, and he can navigate even the most complex of financial docs with ease. The final bill for his services was also a surprise, as it was much MUCH more reasonable than some of the bigger "box store" tax chains. I'm not at LIBERTY to say How & wheRe I found the competing prices, but they're the ones around the BLOCK. Regardless, Dave and Fortunate Fields were much more reasonably priced. If you need help figuring out your taxes, I would highly recommend Dave Yoshida and his team. I wanted to write this in part to let people know that the reviews ain't fake or bought; Fortunate Fields is the real thing! read more

Although I ended up going to somebody else due to them being much closer to my home, I wanted to give Dave a good review because he was SUPER responsive and VERY reasonably priced with regard to the quote. He will stay on my radar in case the other accountant doesn't work out. read more

After doing my taxes for years using TurboTax Online, I decided to get some professional advice on tax situations I was not familiar with (tax implications for a online business & working from home). I appreciated Dave's prompt communication; I heard from him several hours after I submitted my contact form. He was very patient in wading through my previous tax documents and understanding our family's tax situation. He then took the time to explain in layman's terms, my options with the various tax situations I was in. Dave came across as very well versed in tax code and was able to explain it to me in a way that I understood. I was able to make some decisions about my tax situation with his advice; Dave explained to me that with the route I chose, I could finish my taxes myself, or I could pay him to do it for me, no pressure. I appreciated the honesty, and the refreshing generosity of doing a consult with no obligation to engage in his services. I referred a couple folks to Dave's way, and will be back if my situation ever requires it! Thanks Dave! read more

Thank you David for your diligence, dedication, commitment and honesty in helping me get my tax mess sorted out. David is excellent at following through and remembering who you are. Makes it the reason I choose to go to him over going to those other big corporate tax offices where they forget who you are and charge you an arm and a leg. I was referred to him and highly recommend him to everyone looking for a good tax consultant. read more

Dave Rocks! The first time I used him was to file my personal income taxes five years ago. At present, he processes my business payroll and prepared the paperwork for the change in business entity from sole-prop to corporation. You will be impressed with his calm demeanor, patience, gentle reminders when quarterly/monthly tax payments are due, and his drive to staying current on fed'l and state tax law. He has a bunch of initials at the end of his name, so you know he's smart... read more

Do not do business with Fortunate Fields! My wife and I have been coming here and working with Dave for many years, recently we decided to have our taxes performed with another business. What we found was astonishing, Dave had missed large tax breaks that we have been losing out on throughout the years. We had initially thought he was doing his due diligence but found that large tax breaks were missed. We are very unhappy with how he has missed such blatant tax incentives and breaks. We found Dave initially through Yelp with his positive reviews, however we will not be returning our business to him. A word of advice, have a second opinion before committing to Dave. read more

Dave is extremely knowledgeable, effective and helpful. He is the best accountant I have ever had. We have used him for 18 months and he has been excellent every single day. I was just on the phone, doing a joint call with the IRS and Dave Yoshida. The agent told me that of all accountants she works with, Dave is one of the best. He saved my business tens of thousands of dollars. read more

This review is long due. I have had Dave taking care of my taxes for the last three or four years. He is knowledgeable, very approachable, and an extremely kind person. The office has a positive vibe and I am actually happy to come in and talk about taxes, imagine! He gives you peace of mind, which is exactly why people go to a tax accountant. Ah, and he is very responsive by email. Ok, my taxes may not be very complicated, but besides this "disclaimer", I couldn't be happier with Dave. Highly recommended. read more

Very good service, so convenient easy, answers all my questions but also gives me the assurance that I've done my taxes right. Well worth the investment. read more

Dave is amazing. It was easy to get ahold of him via phone, schedule an appointment, and file my taxes smoothly and quickly. When I arrived for my appointment, he was very nice and patient. He explained everything to me in comprehensible terms (I was filing as an individual). He helped me get the most back as possible on my federal/state taxes. Wow. I am really happy with the amount that he has determined for me. His fee for filing is reasonable, too. Because I filed today, 2/23, he gave me a 10% early filing discount. :) I highly recommend Dave at Fortunate Fields! I plan to use his services again next year. read more

I came here to be a "new" client for personal and business taxes. And I went to meet Dave for first time and did not like the interaction I had with him. After talking to him for 20-30 minutes, he seemed unapproachable. When I asked him for the cost for his services, he stated that he was unable to provide the total or estimated cost. He also stated that "I do not have the actual cost of services for 2015". If that's the case, I would not hire any accountant, if they can't give me the cost for their services. Later, he then gave me a general idea of how he charges. He charges Schedule D $10 plus $2.00 for each stock transaction/trade that was made, Schedule E $80.00, Schedule A $50.00, etc. (and the list goes on). Basically, Dave charges any paper he touches and I think that's ridiculous! From my meeting, he wanted to charge extra for everything or anything. In the past, I've worked with H & R Block and this is worse than H & R Block. I'm sorry Dave, but you probably assumed that I had no experience with personal or business taxes. When in actuality, I've been doing business for 15 years! Good luck for this business. Whoever goes to this guy should re-think. I prefer to find a accountant who would not squeeze every penny of your hard earned money. It's a shame. I was looking forward to working with Dave. From my experience, it's best to meet with the accountant in person, so you can see what type of person they are, if they are trustworthy, or money hungry. The only positive part about this meeting was the front desk lady. She was nice and friendly. read more

I love Dave, my "tax dude". I used to be self employed and didn't really know what I was doing in regards to taxes, estimated payroll tax, write-offs, etc... Dave made tax time less stressful because he really knows what he's doing ... and he's just an all-around awesome guy. I highly recommend him! read more

I read so many great reviews on Yelp about Dave that I had to check him out for myself. I am in the military and I normally have my taxes done on base for free, but I wanted to have a processional do them this time around. I called and easily made an appointment with Dave. The location was easy to find and the I felt so comfortable and welcomed once inside. I was greeted by calm colors, beautiful art,a typed "welcome Shaakirah "sign and water to drink. We were even offered free quarters for the meter. Dave was quick, knowledgeable and very professional and his price was reasonable. I was very pleased with his service and I plan to return next year. read more

Over the past 3 years I have worked diligently to reconstruct my financial situation after it took a turn for the worst in the real estate crash. The last piece to rebuilding my finances was the filing of several past year's tax returns. Dave took the time to understand my situation and in a very professional manner helped me get back on track. Since meeting with Dave, not only am I current on all delinquent taxes but I have a great outline for what I must do in the future. I would recommend Dave to any friend or business owner alike. He understands many levels of tax code so whether you have a W2, own several properties, or own a company, Dave can most certainly satisfy your needs! read more

Dave is great! I actually found him by using Yelp and I was not disappointed. I would definitely recommend using Dave, and I will be back next year for sure! Thanks Dave! read more

This year my wife and I decided to have our taxes done professionally and ended up finding Dave through yelp. Dave is friendly, patient, and a real pleasure to work with. He took us through the process quickly and gave us a lot of useful information and advice. We came away feeling entirely confident about the result and will be going back next year. read more

I had been stationed overseas and was not able to complete my taxes by the normal deadline so in October, we sat down and he reassured me that even though I was late, I was still ok and IRS wouldn't be knocking down my door. My paperwork was very straight to the point and for some unknown reason, I had been unable to complete it online so Dave made a phone call to make a couple of inquiries and even though the wait was over an hour long to get ahold of somebody, he did not charge me for the extra hour which I am very grateful for. He was also able to explain to me what had likely caused the problem of why I couldn't do my taxes online and gave me advice on what I could do next time if this issue happened again. He obviously knows his stuff! His fee was reasonable but what made the experience such an awesome one was just how genuine Dave was. He is such a great person and just one of those people that you automatically like being around and this is very easy to see. I have now received my taxes and even though I don't see any foreseeable reasons on why I would need to go back to his office, if I ever do need help with my taxes again, I will definitely be coming back here. read more

Dave and crew are the best in taking the pain out of tax preparation. We have every confidence in their ability to get it done right and we don't have to wait forever to see the results. All our family in San Diego use Fortunate Fields for our tax prep. Thanks Dave! read more

What a wonderful experience. My husband and I just moved to San Diego. With the overturn of DOMA, we could amend our 2012 Fed Tax Return and get refunded all the imputed tax we paid and we could now file as a married couple. I had no idea where to begin in doing this. Dave understood everything, quickly and professionally did our amended return at a very reasonable rate, AND he was incredibly personable and nice in the process. I immediately had the utmost confidence in his skills. He even got all the little touches of impeccable customer service, down to providing us an addressed envelope to mail the return into the IRS. I could not recommend him enough! read more

I have been a client of Fortunate Fields Inc for 4 years now. I LOVE having Dave as my accountant. He is very attentive, patient and really good at what he does. He is knowledgeable and to me that is reassuring. It is very nice to know I have someone on my team, watching my back and I can ask questions to whenever. Did I mention the customer service is top notch. Dave always gets back to me with any question I have immediately. I would highly suggest Dave's services next time you need an accountant. read more

Dave has a very professional and friendly approach, makes his customers confident that they are in good hands from a sound knowledge base and friendly customer service. FF is old school, how returns used to be done, definitely more concern for the client rather than company gain, hence the success we have experience doing business with Fortunate Fields. FF is a firm that is moving with the times, learning as it goes, pushing the envelope within reason, for legitimate customer gains. As a benefit to all, Dave is an absolute gentleman and his follow up service equals what he offers initially, and has consistent service throughout with strong follow through support. read more

My partner has been going to Dave for his tax preparation for years, while I preferred to do my own taxes. Since we got married last fall we had a decision to make and thus we went to see Dave for a married filing joint return. Dave is my 1st experience with a tax preparer in 20 years. Any place that has customized welcome signs and fresh brewed coffee is definitely someplace I will always feel comfortable at! David is gifted with a bright smile and a cheerful yet professional manner. He was extremely patient with us - my partner is not the most organized (I now see why he has used David all these years!) and we never felt rushed. As someone who confidently filed their own taxes for years, even as a homeowner, I must say that from now on I will use and highly recommend Fortunate Fields! read more

EXCELLENT service, friendly, knowledgeable! Recommend!

I've been wanting to leave this guy an excellent review for a while but I was afraid if he keeps getting 5 star reviews he'll eventually become so popular that I won't be able to do my taxes with him. He is one man on the job, yet he always answers e-mails with amazing speed. He sticks to his principle of "client approves return first then we file" This would have saved me some headaches previously when I used to file my returns with a different company that ignored this basic premise. Dave never shies away from explaining any questions you have for him and immediately puts one at ease, he gives me confidence in my ability to file tax returns for my company and myself, which is refreshing in the best possible way. Dave don't you ever get too big! however, this review is not going to help! read more

Dave Yoshida is a tax guru. Professional, understanding, and accommodating, Dave is the man with the plan when it comes to crunching numbers. After 3 years, if Dave wasn't doing my taxes.....
