I've been coming to the former Fr, Bragg for years! I have come here for training in the past and now occasionally I come for work. It's a very large installation and the home of Airborne. read more

How does one rate a military base? I mean, they're not meant for tourism or public visits but if you are family/friends coming to see your soldiers and/or attend a graduation of some sort, or maybe you're a solider transferring to Bragg and want to see what it's like maybe this will help. It's Huge! Fort Bragg is one of the five largest military bases in the US. It's basically it's own town and if you are a soldier coming here for a long term station you may want to think about shipping your vehicle over or you're going to have to make friends real quick to ride to formations and such with as they are often a good long walk away from barracks. For family/friends visiting, I'd suggest staying at a hotel on base such the IHG hotels as they are just as nice as most the ones in the town of Fayetteville, in a lot safer location, and close as you can get to your soldier. The barracks here are standard military barracks, cement floors, fans that look like they'll fly off the ceiling but definitely work to cool you down, simple kitchens, pretty gross bathrooms, a window view of the building next to you, etc. There are definitely different levels of quality depending on rank and if you get lucky enough to move up to newer rooms. Being next to a PX, gym, or dining facility is a perk as well and pretty common for many. There's really not much to do on base for visitors. You will have to either Uber/Lyft (Lyft is cheaper generally) onto base or if you are driving yourself, go to the visitors center to get a pass of some sort which is at the front gate. You can bowl on base with your soldier, shop at the px or the mall behind the IHG moon hotel, and get some work done at Starbucks (one of the few places you don't need a military ID to spend money at). Other than that, I'd recommend going to "downtown Fayetteville" and having lunch at The Fried Turkey Sandwich Shop, getting a cupcake at The Sweet Palette, seeing a movie at AMC 14, and visiting the Airborne and Special Operations Museum - all off base. Make sure to check the hours of the museum as they are a little funky. Overall it's a pretty standard military base. I've met some incredible soldiers that work/train there and heard some pretty terrible things about the civilians that run the cafeterias, which disappoints me. The hours for these military cafeterias are ridiculous as well, closing multiple weekends at a time and choosing random hours to shut down during the week. Personally, if I could change anything about this base, it'd be the cafeteria staff's attitude/respect for the soldiers and their open hours, as the soldiers are required to pay hundreds for a monthly meal card and can't even fulfill that with the amount of times they close up. That's just not cool, looking forward to change. read more

How do you review an Army base ? It's the biggest baddest finest army base in the fuckin world , fuck with this and be destroyed bitches All the way , Thats how lol read more

First off, this place is its own self enclosed city. If you are expecting a smaller base like Parris Island in Beaufort, you are mistaken. If you have never been there, you must stop in for a visitor pass. This includes: finger prints, license, registration and criminal background check. Good news: Your pass is good for one year. Also, make sure you enter on the left (non DOD IDS), unless you are DOD. There are 3 smaller museums and an amazing field of planes, jeeps and howitzers. Also, the outdoor memorial is beautiful. There is a food court and convenience store if you want to stop for a bite. All along campus you will see formations, trainings and how the life of the military is on a day to day basis. For educational, cultural and informational purposes, it is worth the visitor. Make sure you know, Sgt York was from the 82nd out of Fort Bragg. There is your one fact. read more

Literally nothing to do around here so being stationed here is not great. With the right people you can make it fun. You'll need to drive a few hours to find anything worth seeing so hold out for the 4 day weekends. read more

Fort Liberty - Butterfly on the drop zone was a nice surprise. - Public Services & Government Near Me

Put on your boots, boots, boots and parachutes, chutes, chutes! Love Fort Bragg because I love the 82nd (thats why I gave it 4 stars), but other than that.....booooo. There are magical forests filled with trails into nothingness. There are inaccessible lakes that cater to no aspiring outdoorswoman/man. Everything lacks effort. The only feasible recreational area is Smith Lake...and it's not even on Main Post. Dear Fort Bragg, Please put more cool stuff for the Soldiers to do on the weekend. We are tired of bowling at the Airborne lanes, tired of buying cases of beer at the Airborne PX (maybe I'm the only one), and tired of the lack of effort to make life better for Soldiers who live on post and those of us who live offpost, who'd like to do things onpost on the weekends. You have so much space, yet you choose not to be creative and use your unicorn mind. C'mon! MWR, do something! PLEASSEEEE! Love, Me read more

Home of the 82nd and Special Forces! This place would be more aptly named Bragg City due simply to its size. There are thousands of soldiers, family, retirees, civilians and other government employees within. Movie theaters, training grounds, hunting grounds, a major medical facility, shooting ranges, two large grocery stores, museums their own military police patrolling the streets... the list never ends. Basically if you want something, you can get it on Fort Bragg. Some young privates can go months without ever leaving base. The base is open to anyone who wants to visit. People without military ID will have their cars searched at the gate but that is to be expected. Go ahead and make a day trip to this city within a city. read more

Wow! This place is huge! I could not believe how big this base was. Everyone we encountered was very nice. I had to show my ID each time I entered the base. Gas was much cheaper on base, too, than it was in town. read more

Security guards are major A-holes! These old fools must hate their job or have the worst people skills ever. They are not active duty, but this security company sucks! Outside of the highly desired 173rd Airborne Brigade in Italy or the 4th Bde 25th ID in Alaska, this post is pretty much it if you're on jump status or in SOF and not in a ranger battalion. So better to make the best of the place rather than whine and complain like I did for 3 years. For anyone complaining I recommend spending 3 years at Fort Polk, LA. A lot of the drop zones are in bad condition (not as bad as the DZ at Camp Lejeune the Marines use) but you might get a shot at a water jump (I got 1) and there's so many that can accomodate battalion sized jumps compared to other posts. For me, the best thing about Ft. Bragg compared to Ft. Belvoir, Fort Meade and Ft. Bliss is the gym is open till 11 p.m. while the other posts close their gyms at 8 p.m. or 9 p.m. It's been so long I can't remember Schoefield barracks, Ft. Drum or Ft. Lewis gym hours. The post museum is worth a visit. The smoke bomb hill museum is informative, even if you're not into SOF and the gift shop has all the "I'm one of the cool kids" memorabilia you can think of but the "SFAS" postcard was really all I needed. The post hospital is decent but seems overloaded. The MWR has everything from horseback riding to a parachute club and the main exchange is huge but doesn't carry anything special. The smaller PX off Ardennes has all the unit shirts and more "memorabilia" than clothing and sales which has the usual two or three 82nd Abn Division sweatshirts & t-shirts but no other units. The weather is mediocre but not as bad as Georgia. It's 5 hours to Washington D.C. around 3 hours to the Smokey Mountains and a couple hours from the beaches on the North Carolina coast but driving in the fog sucks, an hour from UNC Chapel Hill and easy 3 hour drive to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Florida is about a 6 hour drive to Jacksonville. read more

This is by far the most dog and pony show installation in the Army. Avoid. If you're airborne you don't know how to do your MOS. If not, you're in the shadow of useless jumpers in this age. I have no resentment to the airborne, I don't want to jump out a plane lol. Good for them! The amount of brass is so heavy it screws up the culture. read more

Fort Bragg is the Home of the Airborne. It's just outside of Fayetteville, North Carolina. In fact, it's so large, it's its own city. Not many Army bases have a freeway that goes through it, with a toll-booth type checkpoint where they check your military ID or inspect your civilian car. You know it's huge when you see an elementary and middle school on post. Every Army base has a US Post Office, but this one seems like it's the size of what a decent-populated city would have. Fort Bragg is even divided up into several communities/neighborhoods. For first-timers, it's too easy to get lost. We spent a long time looking for the welcome center, which should be on the main road, somewhere near the main entrance, or at least easy to run into. Or at least update the maps. We found that the hospital on the map is actually the old hospital's location. There's a new, upgraded hospital. The welcome center is in process of being built where the old hospital was at. Another annoyance was how the shopping areas were all spread out. We got lost findingthe main post exchange (PX) and the military clothing sales. Why would they spread out the stores? Well I guess that's an old military tactic to not put all your eggs in one basket, so that one particular area doesn't get over crowded. The town around Fort Bragg is just OK. There are plenty of other Army bases that I would enjoy living at. Since I'm here for 2 months doing this Army Civil Affairs qualification course, my classmate/roommate and I have jokingly vowed to try eating at a different place every night. Look for more restaurant reviews from the Fayetteville area from me. How nice that the Army is paying Per Diem for me to eat out on the town every night while we're taking this class. Don't feel so jealous of us because most of us are deploying to Afghanistan, Iraq, or the horn of Africa right after for about a year. read more

Very disappointed with rude and abrasive PX manager this morning. These are difficult times but that isn't an excuse for discourteous people, especially in a management position read more

The nastiest place I've ever been too. Including the city of Fayetteville as well. But hey, it's an Army post, what can you expect? Army Dumb is the rule here and the locals that work on the post as well as off post are just as unrefined and lacking in decency and common courtesy as the soldiers. I was Air Force and did training at Fort Bragg early in 2006 selected for a so-called "joint deployment" for a year to Afghanistan. In reality, we were dumped off with the Army and had to be under their leadership, chow halls (they don't deserve to be called DFAC's!), and living conditions in barracks that should have been torn down 40 years ago! I was spoiled and pampered too long having been Air Force, but never saw such displays of unprofessionalism and trashy behavior from high ranking NCO's and some officers. If you wanted to go anywhere away from Old Division, you had to ride the bus for at least half an hour IF the bus came. Or else pay $8-10 to nasty, impersonal cab drivers. That's if you had time! I know I'm being harsh and judgmental. But the place was pure misery and the training a nightmare! And I do realize many people coming into the Army as enlisted are usually from poor and uneducated backgrounds and not the sharpest pins in the cushion; hell I saw an NCO in his 30's that had only a few teeth! And the civilian people over the decades became this way putting up with them. BUT, I gave the review 2 stars because the sports bar and hospital are very nice. And Pope AFB next door, which was very nice and won't be there much longer. Pretty soon, the grass there will be brown like Bragg's and match when you go through the gate! read more

Plain and simple it's Ft Bragg. Some like to call it the "Black Hole" because if you come then you will never leave. Bragg itself isn't all that bad. It's the idiots that inhabit it and the decrepit Fayetteville that truly sucks read more

Army wife. My husband & I both hate Fort Bragg. It could be worse though. We come from Miami... It's MIAMI, & people are friendly & loud. This place dull, no denying it. People are not friendly at all. I've been here for almost 6 months, & my only "friend" is my neighbor. I feel like if you don't have kids here, you barely will have friends, because EVERYBODY has at least 3 kids on post. Dang, I sound bitter. I wish everyone would just be friendlier, man. It's not that hard. I'm just a friendly Cuban girl. Be my friend :( read more

Really, what can I say about an Army base..been to most of them, and this one is on par with the rest.

I have always liked Bragg. I was stationed here 9 years ago and am back again for round 2. This time I am not living on post, so I just go when I need to. I love the Craft shows that they have during the fall. Puts me in the mood for the holidays for sure. Now as far as "Fayettenahm"....that's a whole nother review.... read more
