This is the front of the license plate office which is different than the drivers license office

I arrived at 10AM and there were only a few people in line. The license plate office looks a bit barren and unwelcoming. You wait in line versus getting a line number ticket. However, Brenda was the one who helped me and she was very helpful, quick, and respectful! She did well at explaining what I needed and took care of my needs! It was about 10:50 by the time I left and the line grew to about 12 people waiting behind me! I know DMVs can be frustrating but I hope people can stay patient! The staff there is helpful and I often witness rudeness!

Old facility with limited organization for long lines. A rude customer service rep mouthing off that people wait till the last minute, without stopping to think that people have circumstances sometimes beyond their control. She should keep her opinions to herself. The other reps seem kind and level-headed. The one in Hope Mills is faster, friendlier and newer. I prefer renewing online but there were issues. I having to come in. They are not as up-to-date on their procedures as other states and counties.

DMVs have a bad reputation, however this one was very nice. The workers were friendly and the wait time wasn't long at all.

Hate this place, waiting outside is ridiculous, no seating, and some people are very rude in there.

I had a much better experience at this DMV than I have had at others. The front desk agent was kind & informative; & the service was quick.

Short wait. People friendly. Not the normal dmv. Bringing titles to several work trucks. This was painless except for the taxes.

They need a bathroom sign on the door. Old gentleman had a hard time finding the bathroom. Almost urinated on himself.

I have visited four different North Carolina DMV locations, and unfortunately, three out of the…read morefour (Elm St., Spring Lake, and Clinton Rd.) experiences were extremely disappointing. The staff I encountered at those locations were rude, dismissive, and showed no concern for customer service. After explaining my situation clearly including the fact that I am an active service member in the Armed Forces and that I was on leave on a limited amount of time to handle my affairs. I was met with attitudes that can only be described as disrespectful and unprofessional. At times, it felt as if their approach was, "We don't care about you, we'll do what we want, when we want." That is unacceptable for any state service, especially one that so many people rely on. There was no sense of urgency, compassion, or professionalism and being told if I have a problem with how they serve patrons to take it up with the commissioner The one exception to this experience was Mr. Anderson at the DMV on Gillespie, who was very polite, respectful, and professional. His customer service stood out in a very positive way, and I sincerely appreciate the way he treated me. Unfortunately I will have to submit another leave in a couple of months to complete my affairs, he definitely went above and beyond to make sure that when I do return I won't have to go through too much and everything will go smoothly. Overall, the DMV needs to do better in how they train and hold their staff accountable. North Carolina residents and especially those who serve our country deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.

There is a line under this agency's Google listing that says, "Department of motor vehicles…read moreoffering fast, friendly, and efficient service." I pressed the three little dots and reported it as inaccurate--because it absolutely is. I've visited this location multiple times over the years to renew my registration, and each time, I've been met with the same cold, dismissive demeanor. There's no "Hello," no "We'll be right with you," no basic courtesy. Just stares and a sense that kindness is reserved only for a select few. To the person on Google who left a five-star review claiming that if people simply brought the correct documents they'd receive the same friendly service--please sit down. That's not just dismissive, it's enabling. Proper paperwork has nothing to do with basic decency, and rude behavior is never justified. As a Black woman, I want to name something that's often danced around: the unmistakable feeling of not being welcome. It's subtle, but it's real. When I walk in, I'm met with stone-faced silence, even when eye contact is made. But I've watched the same employees turn on the charm and carry on cheerful conversations with white customers--"Southern hospitality" in full display for some, and indifference for others. It's clear that how you're treated here depends on who you are. The customer service isn't universally poor--it's selective. That's what makes it even more glaring. They can be kind; they just choose not to be to everyone. The racial undertone isn't just an isolated perception. It's reinforced by the repeated experiences of myself and others who've left reviews. While they aren't openly hostile, their energy speaks volumes--especially when attempts at small talk are met with blank stares and robotic responses. This agency doesn't need to be shut down. It needs a shift in mindset. Every person walking through those doors deserves respect and decent service, regardless of their race or background. Unfortunately, that's not what you'll find here. I no longer expect warmth or kindness from this place. I simply get in and get out. It's a shame that a public service office in this community chooses to operate this way. They're doing a real disservice not just to non-white residents, but to the very spirit of professionalism itself. Every customer, regardless of their race or identity, deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. But instead, this blatant racism stares me--and others who look like me--square in the face every time we come here to conduct routine business. It's unpleasant at best, and discriminatory at worst. Either way, it's disgusting and frankly, unacceptable.
