Got there before they opened at 7am on a Thursday and was first in line. They are rather short staffed for what I've seen at DMVs of comparable size but it was still early. I think for a large city like this, that includes constant moving due to military personnel and their family along with two universities here, the seating should be increased to match with the amount of people that come for their own reasons. Also, changing something as simple as a last name and updating an address shouldn't take more than 2 hours. At least, that's my personal opinion! However, it's very orderly and the front desk agent was very kind and courteous. If you have time to wait, then spend your day at the Fayetteville DMV!

We got there at about 1230 and checked in, our estimated wait time was 33 minutes. At about half an hour, we started checking the times and it kept going up. At about 330. We finally got the text that it was our turn and to come in. We went inside to be told people were being called to be told to go home. When we asked why we were told they were too many people in the waiting room and no way could they get through all of us before closing. We asked why didn't anyone let people know this before hand so we could've gone to another DMV that at that point though a further drive only had an estimated 15 minute wait time. By this point it was too late for any of us to go to the other DMV office. I understand they were shortstaffed, I understand there's a lot of work that needs to be done. I only saw two employees in that office along with the security personnel. What upset us was the total lack of communication the updated wait times to let us know that they were cutting off seeing people. Instead, wouldn't there be a way to send out a text to all of us that we're waiting in our vehicles stating that due to times no more people who had been checked in would be able to get their licenses. When we did the math, they were doing approximately nine people an hour. Though this is a fantasy, I hope the DMV thinks about how they communicate to the people who have checked in and are waiting for appointments to let us know if they are going to be able to complete seeing people or not. At 3:30 there were only about 15 people ahead of us.

Doors opened bob on 13:00, the lady working was very polite and professional. If you had an appointment, you could take a seat; if you didn't, she directed you to a DMV that was accepting appointments - it's signposted on the entrance exterior that they aren't taking walk-ins at Marshall. Waited maybe 5-10 minutes to be seen. I was swapping an expired, out-of-state license, which took approximately 20 minutes (at most), and I had all the correct documents ready to hand. The whole process was efficient, and the lady helping me was wonderful!! Couldn't have asked for a better experience.

We had an incredibly frustrating experience at this DMV location. The place is poorly run by just…read more2, sometimes only 1, low-intellect individual. The level of inefficiency is staggering. There was not one staffing individual available that was eager or even WILLING to really help people. Everyone had the "this was my last-resort job" mentality. They don't allow you to print anything there or show them anything virtually, making it extremely difficult if you forget a document. (Not atypical for government-run organizations... but still something to note) To top it all off, they don't let anyone sit inside until 12 PM (very hesitantly while also stating they won't be able to see everyone and blatantly ENCOURAGING people to leave, rather than help) which is ridiculous and inconsiderate, especially for those who arrive early to avoid long wait times. Akin to the movies zootopia, they move like sloths here and really make you question where your tax dollars are going!!!!!! Also note: They don't allow walk-ins until 12 PM, which is utterly inconvenient for nearly everyone.

I hurt my spine and I am waiting for an indepth 6th spinal surgery. Needless to say, I am in excruciating pain. The pain was so intense when I walked into the NCDMV I began perspiring all over my face and body. I became very nauseous, weak, & I had chest palpitations. I stood there and an employee came to check on me. An Examiner walked me over to the chairs. She took the time to be so comforting and kind to me. This awesome kind Examiner brought a fresh bottle of water for me and some paper towels to dry my face off. The Examiner helped me get to the right desk and made sure I was ok. The other Examiner at the desk calmly talked me through doing what I needed to do for my Real ID. What a sweetheart also besides the initial Examiner! Between these two remarkable kind lady Examiners I got through the visit just fine! These two remarkable lady Exsminers were Examiner Wilson and Examiner Thorpe! Kudos to these two professional yet very kind ladies made my visit very comfortable. ​​This was such an uplifting visit. These two sweet helpful Angels were there at a time I needed it! Having two professional kind hearted Examiners such as these two on staff is a feather in your cap...NCDMV!!! Gratitude to both of these pros! This positive experience renewed my faith in society!

Glass between staff and yourself/masks on everyone makes communication a bit difficult, but the staff I worked with were so friendly, I didn't mind repeating myself a few times. Staff are very informative and happy to help. I was in and out in maybe 10 minutes and it would have been faster if I didn't have so many questions. Great DMV experience overall.
