This marker is located at the main intersection of Lillington where Main Street meets Front Street…read more It points out the history of the namesake of this city. The marker reads, "Revolutionary leader, Whig colonel in the Battle of Moores Creek Bridge, 1776. His grave is 9 miles northeast." Online, there is more information. " Alexander Lillington, Whig colonel at the Battle of Moores Creek Bridge, was born in 1720 in Beaufort Precinct. Lillington was orphaned and raised by his uncle Edward Mosley. Lillington made his living as a planter but increasingly with time defined himself as politician. In 1748 he was a lieutenant in the New Topsail company of militia which repelled a Spanish attack. Lillington's military prowess did not go unnoticed. On February 27, 1776, he played a leading role in the Patriot victory at Moore's Creek Bridge. Soon after Lillington was appointed colonel of the Sixth Regiment of North Carolina Continentals. Eight months later he resigned from the position, citing the fact that he was "unable to go on parole" due to "old age."" "Throughout the time that Lillington spent on the military track, he also made his mark in government. Lillington represented New Hanover County in the colonial assembly and was appointed justice of the peace in 1764. In 1775 he was elected as New Hanover County's safety commissioner. Lillington, along with John Ashe and Thomas Lloyd, directed protests to prevent the implementation of the Stamp Act. In 1779 he returned to the military and was named brigadier general in the district of Wilmington." [Review 326 of 2024 - 3582 in North Carolina - 21360 overall]

The library has self service to check out books. You can even look for books online, place them on hold, or submit a request. They have several computer stations too. Cost 10 cents per page when you print documents. The staff were all very kind and helpful. It was really easy and quick to sign up for a library card too.

First off, I thought libraries were supposed to be QUIET?!?! this is by far the loudest place I've…read moreever been in..and it's the STAFF who are being loudest. Laughing, talking, cell phones ringing all loud. So hard to concentrate on what I'm here to accomplish. Unable to focus. Very unprofessional. This library needs a whole new staff, period. It's terrible when you can hear what and WHO the librarians are gossiping about.

This is the only post office in Clayton. They are fast, efficient and seem appropriately staffed…read moreevery time I've been in. The facility is clean and well lit. In the last couple years they added a package drop box which makes it easier for dropping off prepaid postage packages. Yesterday when I was in, the line had 8-10 people in it and there was an employee standing by the counter line with a scanner. I had a prepaid postage item so he was able to scan and get me a receipt without waiting in line. My only reason for not giving 5 stars is the hours are not convenient for patrons, 10-430 on weekdays makes it hard for first shift employees to get in and they're only open 2 hours on Saturday. Other than that, they are top notch and always super helpful!

My only complaint here is that they didn't open until 10:00am, so I had to wait 20 minutes. Went…read moreinside to stake my place in line and there were already 10 people in line. Once opened, we were all greeted with a heart-felt good morning and the workers were ready to serve. Listening to the clerks helping people in front of me was very eye opening. I've heard all the complaints and even the phrase "Going Postal" about the Post Office, but this was waaaaaaay different! The clerks actually seemed to be enjoying helping people and were suggesting ways to spend less money. What a novel concept for an entity that constantly loses money every year. I cannot dream of a better experience than mine! At least for this location, the phrase "going postal" is a bad rap. It should now be changed to "Going DMV"!
