I loved my visit there. I learned a lot. The man who talked to me about the artillery there at Fort Concho was very sweet and informative. I forgot his name but he is a retired Navy man. He was such a sweetheart. It is definitely worth the stop. I hope I can go back in December for the Winter Rendezvous when there will be re-enactors, artillery demonstrations and lots of entertainment and booths. Looking forward to it.

Well worth the $3 admission. You can really get a good feeling of what army life was like back then...up at 6AM and off duty at 9PM. YIKES! The exhibits are spread out so you'll get a little exercise in during your visit.

What I thought was going to be not a lot to see, turned out to be pretty interesting. It's a good way to spend about 1 1/2 hours if you are in San Angelo. Only part of the buildings are open. We picked the wrong time for a guided tour so they gave us a map. I think the guided tour would make it much more interesting. Everything is dated to the correct time period, so you will see how rough life was back then. Not for me, thank you! The cannons and Gatling gun were very interesting for you gun nuts. Next was the enlisted men's quarters and then headquarters. The hospital might send a shiver down your spine. Don't get sick! Next was the school, and then officers quarters. WAY better than the barracks for the enlisted men. One of the last buildings had of all things, a telephone museum in it. Really interesting. We have come a long way. Definitely worth checking out, but it's pretty spread out, so be prepared to walk a bit.

It's really not worth the dollars you spend. Our family loves a good museum, and this one just didn't do it for us.

Modern architecture, nice patio outside, etc. I had no idea it would be so snoozy. Admission was $2 per adult, and honestly? It should be free! There's really NOTHING to see. The museum is only 3 floors, and the first floor consists of administrative offices. The second floor hosted a gift shop (small), a permanent exhibit (very small, 1 room) and a non-permanent exhibit, Sacred Visions, which was essentially just a bunch of creepy religious relics. There was a pretty fountain in the middle. The third floor hosted a permanent exhibit, which also consisted of religious relics. The entire time we were there, a docent followed us around creepily. I know docents are common in museums...but seriously? We were the ONLY people in the museum, and she was watching us like we were going to steal something. Not cool. It's a shame that this museum isn't more interesting. It seems like this neck of the woods would have a lot of old culture to it.

I was in town and killing time before meeting up with some people in the evening, and came across this as an option. I swung by and was thoroughly impressed. The young man behind the counter was friendly and walked me through where I'd be going and what I'd be seeing. I was the only one in the "next group" for the intro video, and he even delayed the start time since I ran to the restroom before roaming the grounds. They have an impressive display of artifacts ranging from early Texas all the way through the frontier days, including a very impressive array of historic guns towards the end. They have interactive kiosks and hologram displays where actors portray historical figures and tell "firsthand" accounts of what was experienced on the frontier, right out of the accounts left by those people beforehand. There's a second theater towards the end of the museum that's a lot more immersive. You have to rotate around in a swivel chair as the story is told from all around you, and there's lights and sound to really sell you on the experience-- all from the comfort of your air-conditioned chair. I don't plan on being back in Abilene anytime soon, but if I ever was back with friends, I'd take them here to check this place out.
