Sparkling Almond

Highly recommend their wines and the tour if you're able. The man that owns the vineyard gave us the tour on Sunday at 2pm and he taught and explained so much about the vineyard. We got to taste the Envy, Tempranillo (2022,2021,2020,2019), Petite Sirah... My favorite was the Envy and the 2019 Tempranillo! Later, we went back to the tasting room for a glass of Sparkling Almond and Angel's Kiss. They also had live music and corn hole. We will definitely be back again!

Idyllic seating. An oasis in the center of the plains. Plenty of covered patio seating as well as under umbrellas and shade trees. Knowledgeable staff. Wine is okay. Enjoyed the Petit Shiraz and the Vermentino. Pizza pairs well with the vino. Dog friendly.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this place! Every time I am in town I always make it a point to come here. On this trip I have gone every Saturday so far since it is such a nice environment with such delicious wine. Yesterday myself and 3 friends went on one of their vineyard tours. At $20 I thought it was a little pricy but we still all had an amazing time. They are only doing small groups, one at a time right now because of COVID. Our tour guide took time to tell us all about the vineyard and their operation. I was amazed to hear that they do every single step by hand! We were peppered with tons of facts about wine making that I have never heard of before. I learned more in that one tour than I have visiting other vineyards. We got to taste one of their tempranillo wines from the barrel and it was amazing. We also got to taste the same wine from the bottle and their port wine. I love the golf cart ride through the vineyards and hearing about how the grapes are cared for. Although the owners are not the original owners you can see just how much care goes into their business and wine production. After the tour we ordered a bottle of the tempranillo and some snacks/pizzas to enjoy outside by the stream. Sitting outside with a nice glass of wine has to be my favorite way to spend an afternoon! A simply wonderful place to visit.

This is a family friendly beautiful and relaxing environment to enjoy lunch and some wine! Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating options. Wine was delicious, the service was quick and friendly, and everything was reasonably priced. We didn't care for the churro dessert as much but the pizza, pretzels, and wine were great. We'll be by again for sure!

Angelo Blush

I first went to visit the vineyard but stayed for the wine with my husband and of course the view! I fell in love with all of it but especially the Angelo Blush which is now my favorite wine. I love it but in times of this pandemic I prefer staying home to be safe and found out delivery was an option! So I went on their website and not even a few hours later I now have a few bottles of Angelo Blush sitting in my kitchen thanks to their delivery. Super professional, beautiful location, and delicious wine, you couldn't ask for more.

Two tasting flights to experience all wines.

Their wines and food are amazing! They have something for everyone. The new owners are salt of the Earth people! This is a wonderful place to spend the day.

This was the most beautiful and easy to work with venue for my April wedding. The vineyard was absolutely stunning, Wendi is incredibly helpful, communicative, and easy to work with. The big trees around the venue provide such lovely shade during the day and the lights at night really made it something special. I am so glad that I chose this for my venue, I received so many compliments and all of my guests loved taking pictures in the vineyard. It was beautiful without needing a ton of extra decorations, and all the photos turned out absolutely stunning. The bar tenders were wonderful, the sangria to die for (a huge hit), and the chapel was just so cute. I really can't talk enough about how much I love this venue, it really made my perfect day something special.

Great wine variates from France, Spain and Italy. The grounds are breathtaking, a Tuscan feel with native Texas pecan trees sweeping the estate. The owner was very knowledgeable and spent a lot of time explaining the art of wine making in West Texas to us. It was very educational and informative. We enjoyed a cheese tray and specialty pizza on the terrace while enjoying our wine. A must stop when around San Angelo! Cheers!

Bill Blackmon...there is so much back story to tell about this great man, so let's save that one…read morefor a future novel. Even just trying to sum up his contributions to the Texas wine industry is a lengthy essay in of itself. Let's just say that many know him quite well from William Chris Vineyards. Who knew back then that starting out that first opening day with his partner and good friend Chris Brundrett in an old farmhouse that was still a "work in progress", would lead to what the winery is today. His labor of love and sweat at cultivating the former Granite Hill Vineyards as well as contributing his expertise to several vineyards and wineries in the area will leave a lasting impression for a very long time. Bill's latest venture in the Texas wine world is his own wine brand sourced from his vineyard, Blackmon Ranch Vineyard, in Mason, Texas. Some of you may have been lucky enough to grab a bottle of William & Chris wine that was sourced from his vineyard a few years ago. Delicious doesn't even begin to describe those wines. Yes, it's that damn good! Bill's vineyard sits on the Hickory Sandstone formation which has outcrops in Mason and area counties. Several well-known vineyards in the county have been out there for a while growing grapes. Many Texas wine fans are aware of the superb fruit quality that these vineyards produce that end up in award-winning wines. This soon to be Hickory Sands AVA designation for those Mason County area vineyards will be a testament to the uniqueness of this wine growing region. For the Blackmon Ranch Vineyards, you'll have some vines starting around 2015 onward. With primarily Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, and some Petite Verdot being grown on the estate, these vine jewels are the source for both single varietal and great blending wines. You may have already had some "sneak peek" tastings of these wines at Mason events and weekends when the tasting room is open. In the works for a while (and some say longer) has been a tasting room on the square. It had opened for a soft opening during the October 2023 Art and Wine festival and starting in 2024 more regular hours on weekends. The prime showing in the beginning was their 2021 releases. First up for tasting was their 2021 Red Blend. Made from primarily Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and some Malbec, you'll get some rich balance of blackberries and cherries along with a touch of spice. It's well balanced, has good tannins, and has some excellent fruit forward notes. Next up, was the 2021 Merlot. This estate wine is full of rich flavors and enticing aromas that will surely make a Merlot lover out of you instantly. The star of the selection must be the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon. Oh my, it is big and bold with a full mouthfeel and satisfying finish that leaves you wondering if you have found the golden ticket. An extra treat to try is a special tasting of their 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon. To say that it's tasting well now does not do justice. That is an extra special wine worth savoring. Check out if the 2020 vintage is available and just maybe the 2018 first release might be around for a few diehard fans. All these wines are very age worthy, and it will be an extra special treat to see how they will continue to evolve over time. Texas weather is a never-ending challenge, but Bill has gone through more than his fair share of those challenges and still knows how to grow great grapes and craft great wine from what may seem challenging odds. Let's look forward to future releases as well as going back in our cellar and re-sampling some of these wines in the future (you might have to stick around 10+ years for that). Mason is well worth putting on your wine travel bucket list to check out and explore, so stay tuned for future updates and opportunities to try Blackmon wines in the future. Cheers!

The wine was so wonderful, we signed up for the wine club. The white and rose were some of the best I've ever had. The Presidio Tempranillo based red wine was amazing! Founded in 2021 by Scott Monette and Mirta Leon Poiseu, this brand-new winery in Mason is really…read moreshowing off how well Spanish varieties can do in Texas. The Mason Art and Wine festival last April 2nd was their big "first day" event and it seems like they have made a big impression with many Texas wine fans. Scott had started out as a California wine drinker, but after a few trips to some fine Texas wineries and sampling what has been made recently, he was quite impressed and decided to take the deep dive into the Texas winery business. The focus of Saba Winery is on Spanish style wines along with some of the history associated with the Mason area. The owners have set aside about 15 acres of their own future estate grapes in the far northwestern frontier of the Texas Hill Country in Menard County. Some of the grapes they will be planting include Graciano, Grenache, and Carignan along with PicPoul Blanc. They also have a great mentor, John Rivenburgh working with them. Using John's incubator project, this new winery is certainly off to the right start and in great hands. For the wines, the names and images on the labels all have references to the early Spanish days in Texas along with a good story. Sourced from Buena Suerte Vineyards in the Texas High Plains AVA, the 2020 Mission Rosé is a 50/50 blend of Tempranillo and Grenache. It has a light fruity fragrance on the nose and ripe strawberries on the palate. The fruit for the 2019 Norteño Red comes from Tad Daniel Vineyards of the high plains. This blend of Tempranillo, Sangiovese, and Alicante Bouschet displays strong ripe cherries followed a touch of spice on the nose. Also sourced from Tad Daniel Vineyard is the 2019 Presidio Red. This 80/20 Tempranillo-Souzao blend is bold and fruit forward and should pair quite nicely with your favorite meat dish. There is also a Two Rivers white available (named after the land between the San Saba and Llano rivers) as well as an upcoming red blend called 5 Hippies Red (named after wine pioneering influencers). In addition to the great wines, you will love the tasting rooms interior space themed in Spanish styled décor. Plus, the tapas are to die for! This place is a great addition to the up-and-coming Mason wine scene! Come to Mason and see for yourself and say hello to one of the newest fun spots on the square. Salud!
