We walked up the hill & followed the wall admiring the cannons. We just walked inside & read the signs. It was a damp & windy morning but the views were magnificent.
This star shaped fort is in the center of Lerwick & is mostly intact. It was first constructed in 1652 as a defense against the Dutch. There are cannons positioned overlooking the sound and information boards at various locations but you can't go inside because it is the base of Shetland's Army Reserves. read more
