There could be no other reward for this remarkable treasure.
A World Heritage site, New Lanark is incredibly important when you read into the history of both the pace and the man credited with creating it, Robert Owen. The village itself is absolutely gorgeous, especially if you get it on a sunny day.
Not just an actual village, but an educational experience as well, there's a visitor centre that has a ride system that tells you a potted version of the history, and then many floors below that that fill in the gaps that may have been left.
How much you take in is up to you, but the 4th floor of the building with the still working loom and old style machines is incredible to watch. The history seeps through each brick in the majestic buildings.
Bringing it up to modern standards, there's gift shops, cafes and even a hotel and gym in place to satisfy your need. Need to be one with nature? Walk up to the spectacular Falls Of Clyde along the river bank.
I love this place, and it's a great tourist attraction for people of all ages and interests. If you're a local and haven't been, then get down to it.
Car is recommended as it's a steep walk down to the village and back up, but there is a local bus that goes once an hour, service 135 from the bus interchange at Lanark Railway Station. It's worth the effort, trust me. read more
