This is the place to head to if you or a friend has a car, the weather is ok and you fancy stretching your legs but don't want to go far from town. Head out on the Biggar road as far as the Flotterstone pub where you can park, choose any number of paths that take your fancy or cycle along the main track as far as you want to go. It is so easy to get to, you're there within 20 mins and it feels like you are in the middle of the countryside. As the name would indicate, the terrain is fairly hilly, nothing too serious though, you would only need walking gear if you are hardcore and intend to walk for miles, if not then trainers and a city jacket are fine, since there is a very civilised track that is pleasant enough to walk along. It gets pretty busy at weekends, and you'll be hard pushed to get a table at the pub for a well deserved meal after your long walk, but during the week it is peaceful enough, with plenty of fresh air and a good dose of nature. read more
