Just the right equipment... Management is fantastic. Great place to go and get a workout if you're in town for a quick visit.

This has been my "home" location since April, previously spent 3 years at the Saginaw 1 location…read more This is a planet fitness gym, it's what I expected. There is some new equipment throughout and some of the "older" equipment that I personally prefer. Layout is great and the locker room facilities are always clean and well kept. Sometimes when attending this facility early in the morning (during the "midnight" shift) you don't see staff members at all at the desk, or even within the facility, for sometimes a good while. This could cause a problem if someone was trying to use the Black Card facilities or was maybe having trouble with their card. It doesn't usually cause problems so early, but I admit it's an odd experience walking in and having no team members to be seen. When you do encounter staff they are friendly, very helpful when needed and they are very thorough when it comes to cleaning the facility. Some of the older equipment tends to break and there is usually a pretty significant delay in when that equipment gets repaired, this is more of a corporate issue than a location issue as this location doesn't repair their own equipment, but it can hinder a "workout flow" when pieces of equipment go down for a significant amount of time. Plenty of weights through the gym, dumbbells go up to 75lbs, and lots of benches to use for whatever you need. I'll keep attending and enjoying my time here for sure!

Great staff. Constantly keeping clean Very few "lunkers"…read morePretty steady attendees, so no big crowds. Recommended

I am a big fan of Element 22! I was at home for the summer, bored, and I needed a good workout to…read morechallenge me. Dow Fitness center does have great specialty classes, but only on certain days of the week - and no ballet bar (yet!). I've been wanting to try ballet barre classes for a long time, but the rival ballet studio down the street is hugely expensive. Someone recommended Element to me, and I was very impressed with the experience overall. The classes are reasonably priced, the online scheduling system is easy to use and the instructors are really talented. They also let you try your first week free, in case you are unsure. When you first go, the instructors are very high energy - the workouts are extremely intense, but in a positive way (this is not bootcamp style). You will be very tired but amazed what your body can do by the time you are done. Ballet bar was one of the hardest workouts I have ever done, even with years of tennis, spinning and Pilates under my belt. The idea is very tiny, very slow muscle movements that work under-used muscle areas. The first few reps are easy, until you suddenly feel an intense burn. They will take you through about 15 minutes each of Arms, Abs/Back, Glutes and Legs. It is not for the faint of heart, but don't be scared off by the challenge. It becomes addicting! Pilates was still tough but incorporated enough yoga elements to give your muscles a periodic break. I recommend this for those just starting over the ballet bar. I didn't get to try the yoga, unfortunately. I also wanted to address the stereotypes head on - a lot of people are intimidated by places like this because they think everyone will be too fit, too wealthy and too snooty. You will see the lululemon crowd here to be sure, but I also saw a range of fitness levels, body types, fashion choices and ages. Yoga guys in loose sweaters would do planks next to high school students and seniors. Tanned fitness buffs would chat with new moms and people with muscle injuries. It's very diverse! Personally, I never felt out of place, although I am not very fit. I think it may have something to do with the instructors - they put out a very welcoming vibe to everyone, and do their best to remember everyone by name. Element 22 only has a few downsides. When you first start they will often publicly correct your form, which can be a little embarrassing. You may also not make it through the entire workout. But different instructors have different styles and they have a good variety of personalities and class types to try until you feel comfortable. All of the employees are extremely outgoing and personable, so it's totally okay to pull them aside and ask them anything (like modifications for injuries, which I saw a lot of). I suggest going for the first week, giving it a try and seeing how goes - I think almost everyone will be pleasantly surprised!

I love element and have been coming here for over 3 years and over 500 classes. As an avid tennis…read moreplayer and athlete, element has the best offerings of cardio , strength, and to restore. I can easily balance my workouts and come 7 days per week and never get bored! The instructors and their training are the best I have found. I can do the peloton bike and stretch after with yin or yin-yang yoga, strengthen and balance with pilates or barre , or have just have a fun day at WERQ with the dance and music! Try a week and you will see !

However, in the past few years they have made visiting completely cost-prohibitive. Do you like to swim to stay in shape? It will cost you $40 a month...and the pool is only open for a few select hours each day for open swim (seriously...go look at their schedule and try to figure out when you can and cannot swim). That, and their lap pool only has 5 lanes, and there were multiple occasions where I had to share lanes with up to 4 people at a time. What if you just want to drop in and run around the track? $7 A DAY. You do get access to their weight room, too, but for $3 more you could just get a MONTHLY membership at Planet Fitness. All membership plans also require an "auto-draft joining fee" of about $100. So, if money isn't an issue and you like to stay in shape, definitely check this place out. However, if you're working with a tight budget, try one of the other gyms in the area, because MCC is one of the most expensive ways to stay in shape in the area, and there are better options out there for far less money
