This is a beautiful golf course in the heart of upper mid-Michigan. It's one of two courses (the other being The Dream) owned by what seems like two brothers. Driving into the course you are met by a very professional and classy sign denoting the golf course by name. A long, winding and picturesque drive eventually gets you to the pro shop. Let's get to the good stuff right away.... PROS: -staff is superb, friendly, professional and always smiling. -range balls are free with the purchase of your round. -the horticulture around the course is well maintained and very aesthetically pleasing to the eye. -definitely a challenging course for players of all skill levels -lightning fast greens -turf was very well-maintained and in great shape. -BYOB! They don't have a liquor license so bring your own and save! They have all the ice you need and coolers on the carts. -plenty of water stations on the course -off the tee most fairways are wide open and allow for those who may not hit the straight ball each time to still make a second shot. - greens fees include cart CONS: -a bit in the pricey side for a golf course near West Branch MI. $80 is a bit much. -under-rated by the PGA. 130 slope from the whites is not accurate. Nice golf course with a great layout. Would have given 5 star...oddly we had two starters approach us on the 16th hole of golf, mentioned we were behind pace with the group in front of us...in all reality we were 10 minutes ahead of pace of play. Neither were rude, but I don't understand saying anything at hole 16? Rates are 25% high (IMHO). $50 spring rate & $85 summer...golf carts don't even have windshields... read more

Was able to get out midweek at noon as a solo. Nice but small range and practice green. Great layout and great conditioning. Loved every thing about this place. Truly a golfers golf course. Small trailer as a clubhouse with an outdoor only small grill. Perfect! Paid $50 and it was a great deal. Can't wait to get back out there. read more

Great time at the nightmare! Course was in great shape! The people were all awesome and so nice! Great place to spend the day golfing!

This is a well maintained golf course with wide fairways, large/fast greens, and good bunkers. That's the good. Here's where the nightmare comes in. The greens are all sloped enough that in most cases you can't stop a ball if you're not directly below the hole. Most pin placements on the day we played were either on a slope or at the high edge. We watched putts hit just hard enough to get to the hole crawl 5-10 feet past. Putts hit from pin high had considerable break and would not stop anywhere near the hole, no matter how well you stroked the putt. Some uphill putts would come up just short of the hole and roll back. As a single digit handicapper, I love fast greens, but this was carnival golf at its finest. If you play here, just hit everything at the flag, but stay short of the hole. I'd rather be 15 feet short than 5 feet to the right or left. If you want to spend $70 for a round of golf that makes you hate the guy who placed the pins, and forces you to drive into town to have a beer afterwards (they don't serve alcohol), this is the place for you. First, the pace of play for this course that is printed on the scorecard is 2 hours and 15 minutes for 9 holes. Our group of 6 had two tee times, and were configured with a foursome that teed off at 9am sharp, and a twosome right behind. There were no groups visible on the first hole at 9am. We were on a weekend getaway, and playing partners best ball with three groups of two, rotating partners every 9. Through the front nine, our foursome group was approached by rangers a couple of times, with complaints about our pace of play, and snapping at us to get a move on. Our twosome (the trailing group) arrived at the clubhouse after 9 holes at 11:10 AM, a few minutes ahead of the requested pace. We arrived to meet the leading group and found that there was another cart waiting for us, with the demand from course staff that we reconfigure into two groups of 3, and reports that the foursome was approached by the ranger and told to hurry at the turn. One of the golfers in our twosome went into the clubhouse to use the restroom and was at the grill ordering a quick hot dog (to go) and was approached by a ranger at the snack bar, and told that we needed to hurry up and tee off (the group behind us not yet even putting on 9). We moved to the 10th tee and moved a bag to the newly required 4th golf cart, and were about to tee off at 11:20, when a ranger pulled up in his cart, walked onto the tee box and nastily snapped at our first group again, to move faster. This was the straw that caused us to lose all patience with the staff. When we protested that we were well within the requested pace and that we were tired of being harassed, the ranger left and sped off to the clubhouse. As 'leader' of our group, I went back to the clubhouse and discussed the harassment and our pace with the gentleman in the clubhouse. The tee time was discussed vs the clock on the wall, and i was told that they were just trying to keep things moving and we were indeed not being rushed. Through the back 9 we were not approached by anyone, and with everyone in a foul mood and not enjoying the remainder of our round, we finished up at about 1pm. Four hours on a course with a published 4.5 hour pace. One of our group went into the clubhouse to again discuss the unpleasantness of the rangers with the gentleman at the counter, and was told that the course manager and the ranger that met us on the tenth tee had both offered their apologies, and that we could golf another nine or help ourselves to a tee shirt from the pro shop. Not being interested in golfing anymore at this course, nor advertising the course via a free shirt, we packed up and left. The course itself was beautiful, but he staff at this course flat out ruined our day and ended our weekend getaway on a sour note. I absolutely will not be back to this course. The very worst experience I have ever had with staff at a golf course, or nearly anywhere. read more

What a wonderful, totally underrated golf course. One of my favorite courses in all of Michigan. You can spend more money, but you can't find a better place. Although a little tougher than it's sister course "The Dream", it is a fair test of golf. It is not a pretentious place. No million dollar club house. Just a nice clubhouse (trailer), with nice people. This is a golfers golf course. Built on gentle rolling hills though northern Michigan forest, this is a beautiful golf course. Deer and Turkey wander the fairways. The fairways are reasonable wide with large greens. Watch out, the greens have many hidden subtle breaks to cause you frustration. Hole #3 is a long testy par four with an uphill approach. Hole #4 is a gorgeous dog-leg right, where big hitters can smash it over the trees and setup a nice wedge in. Holes #6 and #8 are long challenging par fives (can you say 600 yards). The back nine starts you off with a reachable par four, then a reachable par 5. #14 is one of the prettiest and most difficult par three's you'll ever see. Keep it straight on the tight par fours (#15 and 16). Then get ready to rip it home on the par-5 18th. Watch for the pin placement as the 18th green may be 60 yards long. Was rudely rushed by rangers with no need, Treated like we were Hooligans that had never played the game, Badgered on the course , Pin flag laying on the green, All most toke our clubs and walked after 9 out of 18 holes. No one in our group of 6 have ever been treated like this on a course before. The course was in great shape and its a nice tough layout but the management/club house/rangers Killed half of day 2 of a 2 day four hour drive guys weekend golf trip. (the cart boys, one starter and concession stand were nice). I could go on and on but I can't stand writing reviews, when i already paid to have them wast a chunk of my day/trip. Though I do feel the need to keep others from having the same experience. They tried justifying it by claiming that a ranger and the owner apologized which never happen, nor would it have justified!!! We won't put our selfs in this spot at this course again. Would recommend giving your green fees to a facility that treats you with respect and allows you to enjoy the game and the course!! read more

This is probably the most player friendly course we have played. Course was in great shape. Tee boxes for the women are moved up to make it very friendly to have women golfers. Greens are tough so good luck. Great staff and most importantly, bring your own alcohol. Highly recommend for couples or a group of women. read more

We drove up from the bottom of the state to golf both dream and nightmare, dream was great but we were told when we got to nightmare that we would be the first ones off the tee after this big tournament they were having and shouldnt have any issues...first 9 holes were great but when got to the back nine DAN let a group of 12 some off the back 9, and then proceeds to tell us pretty much OH WELL...way to oversell your golf course....not very happy when we pay 80 bucks a guy to play the SAME 9 HOLES OVER AGAIN...if we were at the local high school course i might see how that happens but not at a resort course...unreal. read more

Dave. H sounds like he is advertising! Underrated. Nice. No spectacularly rememberable holes. The Dream is more fun and challenging.
