Having traveled to Japan and eaten sushi from the famous Tsukiji market, it has been difficult to find a sushi bar that serves fresh fish in the Dayton area. We were recommended by a friend to come to Foremost Seafood to purchase our seafood. They have a wide variety of seafood to select from and the ladies who work there are helpful when trying to decide on a specific type. I typically order sushi grade salmon and tuna from them. After placing an order, they will bring out the cut for you to make sure you are okay with what you will be purchasing. It is great to see what you are buying before you pay for it! They will place your order on a bed of ice for you so that it stays cold on your way home. We like to use our sushi grade salmon and tuna to make nigiri and poke bowls. It's as close as it gets to us for being in Dayton. TIp: There are times when they will have bluefin tuna but you may have to call ahead to confirm. read more

Born and raised in Boston and San Francisco, I was desperately searching for some fresh fish in the area. This place is well worth the trip due to quality and service. At first, I walked in and didn't get it. There was two freezers with food, and I wondered if yelp let me down this time. When thinking of a fish market, I'm use to seeing my fisherman with red boots walking around with fish on ice and in tanks. Nope! This is the deal. The nice women in front gave me the complete tour and explanation. There is a board in the front with the catch of the day and price sheets on the table. You place your order (you can call ahead too) with the women for Halibut, trout, etc. and ask for them to debone it/ anyway you want it. They have all the fresh fish in the back and come out and show you the filets. The quality is exceptional. Yes, it is pricey- but you get what you pay for. I also think it's cool that they have menus of the local restaurants that use their products on displays. All and all- if you love seafood- def need to check it out! read more

Best place to buy your fish, seafood, soup in the greater Dayton area. (It's the place that the better restaurants get their fresh fish from). First of all, just in case y'all hadn't noticed, we don't have that many resources here to catch our own fresh fish, and yet they bring in fresh not frozen fish! The other day I stopped by on my way home, and the fishmonger brought out a piece of pollock for my inspection. It had the aroma of the ocean! No slime, I brought it home, poached it in butter and lime and I could have been at Jays or Sweeney's! If I needed help, there's always recipe cards available. My only problem, I didn't just stop at the one piece of fish, got a 16 oz of clam chowder and piece of frozen sea bass for later. (Why pay $35 to 45 for a meal when I can make it for so much less. I can count on one had the number of establishments I will miss after moving away and this is one of them! The customer service is top notch, the selection is surprisingly great, and the seafood is as fresh as it can get in a landlocked state. The icing on the top is that the prices are more than reasonable given the outstanding quality. I was a little confused when we walked in because I didn't see your typical seafood counter with all the fish displayed. They explained how it worked and that they keep everything in the back in the cooler and on ice.
