I had to use up a Groupon that I purchased a year ago, and it was coming up for expiry soon, which…read morebrought me here. I did not know what to expect, just that I would be in the air in some sort of plane. I have to say that this was a pleasant experience. The people who work here are very engaging, and entertaining, as they teach you the basics about the flying, tell you in detail about the actions they do to steer the plane, and also create some good conversation in the air. The people here have character, and even though I was using a Groupon, they were not just doing their jobs, but they were enjoying it, and showing it, which makes for a good time.
I had the address programmed in my gps, just know you may miss this spot when driving, as I missed it, and didn't realize where it was, as my gps said it was 200m away from where it is. When you drive back, you notice a small sign with a plane! When you get to the place, you notice a bunch of small planes here, just know they only have two, and the other planes are parked here, just like a marina, and you see a big stretch of grassland, and you wonder, where is the runway, it is the grasslands, yup! I was really starting to wonder about things now, as I was the first flight in the day, and did not see any planes go up..... nor down!
I signed a waiver first, and was guided toward one of their planes. These planes are small, and I rode the bright yellow looking one. They have 100 hp, propeller planes. Heidi was the pilot with me on this day, and she was really good at explaining each step, and what everything on the plane does. While we were taxi'ing on the ground, she allowed me to steer the plane using my feet, and eventually she took the helm, on a stretch, and we took off, with not much distance travelled on the runway, as these planes are light, they get up pretty quick.
While we were in the air, she gave me the helm, and guided me on how to steer the plane, how to eye the height, and how to balance the plane, at the same time, enjoying the view over the houses in Surrey, and the water, it was a sight to behold. You do not really realize where you are, and the planes you are in have a window like door beside you on the left, so you see almost everything. The controls are very sensitive, and because you are in a small airplane, any small move is felt. It was a thrill to be in the air, and something that could be considered if you are interested in learning how to fly.
They have classes, and they teach on a regular basis, as I learned due to my introduction to this Groupon, he actually ended up taking the classes, and is well on his way to getting his pilot's license. For those who want that feel, come here, it's a good intro to if you want to go further, and if not, it is just a great experience.
