I had to leave in a rush for a family emergency and was able to drop off my two budgies (Sam and Tammy) for boarding. The staff took excellent care of them while I was away. Though they were glad to see me back and I could tell they were quite happy just being there too. Apparently Sam had taken a liking to another boarder while there. Overall - great, friendly staff! Excellent and accommodating! They treated my birds as if they were their own...with sweet and gentle care. read more

These folks were a recommended contact by my regular vet when I had an emergency involving am exotic today. Not only did the staff accommodate my immediate need, they went out of their way to be pleasant and reassuring when I was a nervous wreck upon arrival. Terrific experience! read more

I was very happy with this vet. My African Grey Parrot had quit eating and drinking and I was quite scared. The Dr. Calmed me. He gave KC a full blood work up and checked his heart and lungs. The blood results showed he was indeed sick so they prescribed antibiotics and tube fed him to help him get the nourishment he so needed! It was costly, but I've never taken KC to a vet that wasn't. They also offer boarding at a very reasonable price. I highly recommend For Pets Sake. read more

Dr. Hutcheson and his staff are wonderful!!! We have four sugar gliders, a hedgehog and a mini-persian cat. Dr.Hutcheson has neutered two of our gliders, diagnosed the pregnancy of a third. We have also been seen for infected marsupial pouches and tummy aches. Our most recent experience with out hedgehog was another dose of his good medicine. Pickles had some sores on her underside and was loosing her baby quills so we took her in to make sure everything was going good and to get a base line on her weight and everything. He was so gentle and even used the gas so he could get to underside and clean her sores. (Still have no idea how they happened.) He gave us some banana flavored antibiotics, which she loved, and we were on our way, on a Saturday, with no appointment in less than an hour. Just called for a refill on the antibiotics because she is still quilling and some pain medicine. Hope it makes this very disagreeable hedgehog happy. Thank you guys!! read more

This is suppose to be an exotic vet. I took my healthy guinea pig there to get neutered. When they gave him back to me he developed infection on both testicles. I took him back and he stayed there over the weekend. Then they called me to say he was ready to come home. They gave him back to me in GI status and dying. Tried to make themselves look good by putting fresh veggies in his box. He had lots of yellow around his mouth because he was dying, he died that night which I had to pay another vet over $50 just to take his body because it was late. Vet called me from Pet's Sake and gave me an apology after I had complained but i don't feel he was sincere especially saying He said he would give me refund on the neuter but never happened. He also paid adoption fee to replace my baby through an awesome guinea pig rescue but had to give the aggressive one back to the rescue. If you have an exotic pet I really recommend going to a vet that cares and keeps their word. I know I will never see the refund. Don't think they really cared. read more

This vet is not only very thorough, but also goes above and beyond to followup with their patients and provide quality care. They not only saved my rabbit from a digestive problem in record time, but also helped identify the problem so it wouldn't happen again. I could not be happier with this vet clinic! read more

Horrible with my rabbit. They were rough with him and stuffed him in a box that he didn't fit in and crammed a plastic lid on top of his head. He peed on himself in fear. They held him roughly and didn't even try to be gentle. I was crying at the end of the visit. I switched to Riverview Vet and it is soooo much better. DO NOT BRING RABBIT HERE! read more

My 7 yo daughter's guinea pig, Ozzy, took a bad fall. We were fearing the worst for his injuries. My sister is a vet in another state and helped me locate a guinea pig vet locally. The clinic worked us in the morning I called and thankfully Ozzy is at home recovering. Dr. Hutchinson was kind, compassionate, and very knowledgable. My daughter and Ozzy left happy. Ozzy continues to heal and I def recommend this vet. read more

My African Grey had a lump under her neck. I took her in to be examined at for-pets-sake on North Druid Hills Rd. Holly Burchfield, DVM buchered my parrot and I didn't know because I had to wait in the parking lot due to their COVID precautions. My parrot was only having blood drawn for testing and a needle was inserted into the lump. They were bringing her out and Burchfield gave an oral anti-inflammatory and then the parrot had a seziure and died later that night. Burchfield said the bird had a seizure because of too much handling during the exam, If she were a good vet, then she would know when the bird is so excited she is going to have a seizure. Furthermore, this parrot has been treated in the past and has had her nails clipped and examinations. These previous visits did not cause a seizure and in those instances she did not see Burchfield. This woman and the staff who assisted her are butchers. Stay away if you love your pet. read more

I took the birds I adopted from the Dekalb hoarding case here for their check-up because Dr. Shepherd had already been taking care of them while at Dekalb. I wanted to continue with the same care. She is very friendly and warm and seems to really know birds. She took the time to educate me on a few things. She was very patient and spend a long time on my birds. The only reason why I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because they are on the pricey side for a board certified avian vet. read more

I highly recommend "For Pet's Sake" for all exotic pet owners in town. When my rabbit developed a mysterious infection, this veterinary office was the second I consulted, and they have been bending over backwards to help my pet getting healthy, while keeping my costs down. My bunny eventually lost her eye, but what a small price to pay for her continued health and unconditional love! Thank you to Dr. Hutcheson and his team! read more

I was really happy with our experience here. We have a lovebird who is my son's BEST FRIEND and she (he?) has issues around molting time. This year she decided to pluck out most of her tail feathers within just a couple days of appearing to be very itchy and agitated. I scheduled an appointment Tuesday morning for that same afternoon. I was so grateful to get her in because it was scary how quickly she was mutilating her little body. We saw Dr. Holly and she was wonderful, spent time doing the exam, asked a lot of questions related to making sense out of the behavior, and prescribed pain medication and some echinacea to boost the healing powers of her immune system. We didn't feel rushed at all and her expertise and care was so encouraging. Thank you to a wonderful little place!!!! The receptionists / vet assistants were both so nice and helpful. Also, I loved the vibe of the place, their wide selection of bird toys and perches, and funky little plants and statues - just 100% adorable with great people & service. 5 stars! read more

This only pertains to Mimi Shepard. Doctor Hutcheson was great. We're new to the Atlanta area and have two ferrets, one of which was recently diagnosed with Adrenal Disease. We were told he would need three monthly shots of Lupron. The first one went well. The doctor we saw was knowledgeable and kind and handled our ferret well. This was not the case with Mimi Shepard who gave the next month's shot. She came into the examination room, did not look at my boyfriend or I, did not introduce herself (we had never seen her before), she just scruffed our ferret and jabbed a needle into him. She realized the needle did not have enough Lupron in it, picked our ferret up and took him out of the room. Not once did she ever acknowledge us. When she brought him back I tried to engage her in conversation about shot aftercare. She thrust our ferret into his cage and then threw his bedding in after him. She still wouldn't look at us and even began looking at the window while we were talking. She was beyond rude and absolutely should not be handling animals. read more

I took my guinea pig, Peanut Butter, to For Pet's Sake because of a giant cut he had in his ear. Dr. Shepard was very thorough, and ended up finding another wound I had no idea about! (from fighting with his cagemate, they are both now separated). She is very clinical and not very emotional or chatty but I was sorta appreciative of this because if I had walked in there and she had thought his wounds were as bad as I had, I would have freaked out even more. There was a bit of a wait before I was taken back, but again, I'm sorta glad about this because I would much rather the vets spend as much time as they need with each patient rather than rushing them out to move on to the next one. Also, the visit was only $135 for the examination and 2 different kinds of medicine, plus she cleaned out both wounds very well. Overall, I'll definitely be going back if ever there is another need for either of my guinea pigs. EDIT: I read a review once that said Dr. S had swept their pet out of the room without saying where she was going. That didn't happen to me, when she took PB to clean his wounds and stuff, she told me exactly what she was doing. They also told me if I needed them cleaned again to bring him back and they would do it. Sidenote-- the girl at the front was super nice and seemed pretty well informed, and the other pet parents I encountered were all very friendly. read more

I've been going to For Pets Sake for over 5 years now, and they have always treated me and my pets well. I have taken both my birds (parrotlets) as well as my rabbit there, and they have gotten me through one rough rabbit illness, and helped me through a terminal illness with one of my birds. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Dr. Shepard can sometimes be a little brusque, but you can tell that she really cares about the birds that she treats. read more

I have been taking my bird here since I got him about 2 years ago. I have always had wonderful experiences with the doctors and staff at this clinic. In addition to physicals and such, I also board my bird here when we go on vacation. The boarding room is separated from the "hospital". It is very clean and the boarding birds seem very happy. My bird is always in good spirits and shape when I come back to pick him up and it is obvious by the way they handle the birds that they truly care about them. I would recommend this office to anyone. read more

Our Bunny came in for a routine checkup and was seen by Dr. Mimi Shepard. Dr. Shepard appeared tired and uncaring, and would not tell us anything about our Bunny unless we asked. She eventually talked us into buying a pen and new food. What Dr. Shepard failed to mention is that rabbits needs to be gradually switched from one food to the other. When we put Bunny in his new pen with his new food, he would not eat or do anything. We took him in again, and our Bunny was diagnosed with 'gut shutdown.' We entrusted our Bunny to Dr. Jason Hutcheson. When we received our Bunny back, we were given a medication that was at the time suspected to CAUSE gut shutdown. In a day, our Bunny was dead. Devastated, we came back to see Dr. Hutcheson, he tried to pawn off the problem on another physical problem the Bunny was having. I left a note with the secretary asking Dr. Hutcheson to call me. He didn't. I wrote him a long note explaining the situation and how Dr. Shepard was to blame for not explaining everything clearly to us. I received no response, and called in and got him on the phone. I have never heard anyone his age behave like such a child, explaining he would not grant a refund because his staff was completely competent. A few weeks later, we received word that For Pet's Sake had done away with another bunny with shutdown, evidencing to me that their staff haven't the slightest clue what they are doing. For your own pet's sake, stay away from For Pet's Sake. We are also a regular participant at Bunnyfest run through the House Rabbit Society. We were very hesitant about showing up because Dr. Jason Hutchenson was slated to show up; but were relieved that he had canceled at the last minute. The less animals he lays his hands on, the better. There would have been some sort of physical altercation between us if he had shown his ugly face. read more

I never even got to For Pets Sake. I tried calling several times and spaced my calls several days apart as their answer phone said their phone was out of service. My final message was rather short and to the point. I received a snippy text back. So the phone service is down enough that they can't take or return calls but they CAN check messages and return calls by text??? Yeah, they lost my business without even ever having seen me. read more

Went there with our sick ferret. IMO, The female doc (can't recall her name) was rude and uncaring. It seemed she was only interested in us spending 750 bucks for tests. I watched how she handled our ferret and she didn't have a caring touch AT ALL. I'm very intuitive and all I know is I didn't want her to touch our baby, no matter how sick he was. Try another vet. I will add that I don't think she even realizes her coldness. It is what it is. read more

We had a young (3 month old) lovely Russian dwarf hamster and brought her in for diarreah. I never did get to speak with the vet, but after the technician told me it was mild, gave me some antibiotics, her symptoms changed and got worse. I called and again, didn't get to a live vet, i always spoke to whomever answered the phone acting like an expert. THey changed the antibiotic and three days later this lovely creature was off balance, drinking profuse amounts of water and constantly biting at her bottom. I woke up this AM only to see this beloved pet half frozen in a ball with her insides protruding from her bottom. THREE DAYS AGO they called me for their customary "how is your pet doing." When I told them how worried I was about her, they said they would "check with the vet and get back to me." I asked them if there was anything at all I could do. NO ONE CALLED BACK AND I NEVER SPOKE TO A VET. I now realize this could have been prevented, it was probably rectal prolapsis, and no one on the phone there had any clue. I'm heartbroken. If you love your pet as much as I did, go to a vet who understands that and takes your pet's health seriously, regardless of what kind! Even if they couldn't save her, i think she must have suffered terribly this early AM before we found her. read more
