When we first found our way into this bar during the Troy Victorian Stroll day, we were blown away by the gorgeous decorations, fun music, and general conviviality. This is a dive bar with heart. Fantastic, friendly bartenders who really know their stuff. We've been back many, many times since then. We've come in for drinks and food and are never disappointed. The food is pub fare done well. Love that they go all out with decorations for different holidays. Do yourself a favor when in Troy- Footsy Magoo's is a must! read more

This place gets worse every time we go. The fat bouncer is on the world's dumbest power trip and the other one harassed my friend for wearing a hoodie (???). The arcade machines are all falling apart and the whole place reeks of piss. There's no structure to ordering a drink, it's a giant free-for-all and sometimes they just don't serve you. read more

A friend suggested we check out this fun "dive bar" she knew of when we were downtown for Troy Night Out and Footsy Magoo's is where she took us. This is not what I would consider a dive bar. It has good low key vibes and very interesting decor. There are some games and a couple different areas to hangout in, including a patio area. The bartenders and door staff were friendly. The people hanging around inside seemed friendly. The prices were average and because it's close to Halloween the place is totally decked out in Halloween decor and my friend told me they go all out for Christmas as well. What a unique fun place! We only stopped in for a cocktail and to check the place out. The vibe was awesome. Lots of separate areas for groups to hang out. The bar had a great atmosphere! Bouncer rejected my ID after a very lengthy examination that included bending, scratching, and likely damaging my ID. In addition, he acted like a total *sshole about it, including asking me what I was doing at his bar in a very condescending manner. He did not give any reasoning whatsoever to rejecting me, and simply scanning my ID would have revealed that I'm 100% of legal age. I was excited to try a new bar in the town of my college, but will now be sure to never visit again, and make sure to dissuade any of my friends from doing the same. The incident took place around 10:00 on September 17th, and all the bouncer succeeded in was costing the bar a customer. It was clear that he was on some kind of ridiculous power trip, and having read other low reviews that mention the bouncer, I'm honestly astonished that he is still employed. read more

Last night I was there with a group of my coworkers for a work celebration. Me and my boyfriend shared one drink. After that we sat on the bench on the side and talked. The bald security guard there kept coming over and saying my boyfriend had too much to drink when he clearly didn't and our coworkers agreed we were the most sober people there. He also told a coworker that he would be kicked out because he briefly put his head down. When we asked security why he wanted my boyfriend gone he said the bartender cut him off which means he has to leave even though he was never told anything like that and only had one drink. I don't understand if he had us confused with someone else or if he just wanted to feel powerful. But after periodical harassment we decided to leave. He didn't do anything and if he actually did... then you'd drag him out. Just confused and annoyed and my company will not return. I'm not sure if this security guard has harassed others customers, but he made us very uncomfortable and was also policing others over every action. Footsy's is quite chill, an old bank with high ceilings and games stashed in the various vaults and back rooms. There's a separate room with privacy in the back, or a convivial front room that screams Old Troy. They have more interesting drink selections than average, although you will pay for the privilege, it's a nice change of pace. Friendly service although it's a lot more fun when there are fewer people in the place. My main quibble with the games is a lot of them are older and a bit dirty; if I had my druthers, they'd put in more pinball. read more

had a rather strange experience entering Footsy's yesterday evening... 6/23/23... a man at the entryway with two dogs asked my friend and I for identification... we complied even though we are clearly over 21 years of age. oddly enough he didn't ask anyone else entering for their identification... I then took it upon myself to ask the bartender if this guy worked there and he said no... indicating that in the past he was a security guard... or something to that effect... this really upset me that a perfect strange, not employed by the establishment took it upon himself to do this. Frosty Magoo's is easily the worst name ever for a bar, but this is one of the best and most eccentric nightspots in the area. Good luck finding this place, though. They have no web presence, there's no identifying signage other than a chalkboard panel at the door, they're on a street that Google's street view doesn't cover, and I'm not even sure if they advertise. Just wander around River Street near First and ask around. FM's in a former bank. There's a small plaque on the building stating it was built in 1811. The high-ceilinged interior of the main bar is decorated with junk salvaged from the alley behind the building. Overall, the design feel is "That looks good enough, fuck it, I'm done." The walk-in safe is carpeted with astroturf, and people seem to use the room as a putting green. There's an alcove for darts, a back patio full of people making out, some dead space with mismatched tables, and a small stage adjoining a kitchen. The waitresses have to carry their orders though the bands as they perform. Clientele is a stew of Trojans. Everyone's drunk, and everyone is having fun. read more

My favorite bar to go to after pre-gaming at Slidin' Dirty. The drinks they have in rotation are in season, tasty, and often strong, and the bar service is prompt and friendly. The only way I could see this place improving is if they started offering food! Ever thought to yourself it would be cool to turn an old bank into a bar? Well you're too slow cause Footsy Magoo's already did it. I told you to stop procrastinating! Located in a building built way back in 1811, with previous tenants such as the Bank of Troy and the the United National Bank of Troy. I've been here a few times and each time was a blast. The place has several rooms in the back so make sure to scout out the place when you arrive. In the front is an average sized bar and a few tables. Heading deeper into the bar you'll find a somewhat creepy-feeling room with a children's bench, foosball, and two arcade games. Take a different turn and you'll find another room with two dart boards. Then even further back you'll find a nice large room with tables with an exit to their back porch. Can you tell that the layout and feel of this place is a little eccentric? It is, but it works. Every time I've been here there's always been an odd mix of a crowd, again somehow working for this place. Want to be part of the misfit crew here? Try it out. read more

Revised down to one because I realised yelp says it's closed today, and the owner/manager has not claimed the business. Two stars instead of one because the interior is architecturally interesting, but the blonde female bartender is possibly the most customer-inappropriate employee of all time. One client said to her, "you look cute today," and she replied "you look like a liar." She never said thank you to anyone and was deliberately avoiding eye contact. Then she charged me $24 for a pretty basic scotch neat & tried to explain to me that neat means two shots, and each shot was $12. Old school games that ate our money also. I will never be back, and I strongly recommend not frequenting this establishment that allows this behaviour towards its patrons. read more

It's really the bartender that I dislike. There is a short blonde that works there, awful service. Takes a while to even notice us. Then takes her time coming over. Then makes me a "mixed drink" with less than half a shot of liquor in it... If you get her, stick to beer so she can't mess it up. Side note: the girl on Monday nights is good. The beer selection is rather pitiful compared to other bars in walking distance (ex: holmes and watsons, the ruck and of course browns) BUT that just means I usually get liquor here. The prices are good. $8 for a double Jameson and ginger. The drinks are also STRONG. If you get one, don't drive home anytime soon. I'm not a great liquor holder to begin with but I have been with stonger drinkers than I and they agree. The bartenders aren't overly friendly but I haven't had any bad experiences. The decor is quite charming as stated before. The bathrooms are quite adorable. They also have some fun options to play. SKEEBALL? come on! AWESOME. Along with darts, foos ball and pac man and some other games. Most of them are in separate areas which bodes well with my anti-social tendencies. They also have a small back area that's wonderful in the warmer months for a cigarette and lovely conversation. my lady friend and i went there 6/30/23 around 12:30a for a quick drink or two, usually youll jus kinda lean at the bar and wait to be "noticed" and attended to, i observed the 3 bartenders seemed to split the sections to attended to the people equally. As we are "waiting to be noticed", it seemed a few mins went by, and we and another male next to us noticed we werent being attended to. We were very patient and after a few mins, maybe 7-10 mins, the male next to us said something to us about it, just quick small talk, thats when one of the bartenders thennn came to us a bit rude telling us hey its busy (which it was) and if we dont get their attention then owell(!). something along those lines. We never responded to her, just decided to leave. Just overall very rude to us when me and my lady never actually said anything and was very patient for over 10 mins with no drink ever being gotten. Just wanted to give a heads up on the random little blow up she gave us tht wasnt really even called for. Will not do business there again, as there are many nice other bars around Troy. read more

Fantastic atmosphere, reasonable prices, and terrible service. I felt like the bartender was actively angry to have us, the paying customers, there, and would do anything to make sure we left. We left alright, a 1 dollar tip on a 10 dollar bill. This bar is exactly what Troy needs, except for the shitty service. This is a very cool place in downtown Troy. I love the decor and I love the fact that there are no outward signs that the place even exists. Honestly, I've probably driven by this place thousands of times and didn't even notice it. The drink prices and selection are average. Not bad by any means; but nothing special at the same time. I went with friends and had a great time. So why isn't my review higher ? The bartenders. They didn't even acknowledge my presence. Then when they finally did give me some service it was very curt and borderline rude. Been here a few times and most of the time it is very easy going and fun - they have a great selection of beers and do a great job with mixed drinks. I did have one incident with a particular bartender - younger lady, maybe mid 20s. She was extremely rude! Like out of the norm shockingly rude... I was at the bar on a busy night and seeing all the bartenders hustling around and trying to keep up, I simply kept to myself and was patient - but in the hopes to grab someone's attention at some point I simply help my cash at my eye level instead of shouting or complaining... The young lady apparently found this to be "highly rude" and proceeded to throw me major attitude telling me how rude I was being... Excuse me for being patient, yet wanting to order?? Needless to say I was highly disappointed with this particular bartender who appears to ALWAYS have attitude from every other night i've been there. This place could be a 5 star all day - get rid of the terrible lady who was insulting and this place would be perfect! read more

A fun place for a night out in Troy. I met up with friends, grabbed a beer on tap, and schooled them in a game of darts. After hovering outside of the room with skeeball we finally snagged it for a few rounds. My first time playing... it's harder than it looks! Beer selection is mediocre but they do have several drink specials (note: they pour strong!) that are worth checking out. The decor is unique, to say the least. Take a closer look at that tufted seatback and you'll notice the army men tucked away in each tuft. Be sure to look skyward in the dart room for the nostalgic boardgame covers, too. read more

My first time here I only stayed for one drink. I was hoping to hear the song I played in the jukebox but it never came on (during my stay). "Party all the time" Eddie Murphy. Peter peter PETER! Can I say how I love PETER! Visiting from out of town and I was super impressed with his customer service. Super down to earth and just fantastic. If you check out this bar you have to 1 ask for peter 2 try the boozy coffee it's ice coffee with vodka and your choice too! (Genius) I got vanilla 3 play old school skew ball for $.25. This place is awesome. There's skee ball, foosball and a pinball machine that were a lot of fun and its a lot bigger inside than you would expect. They always have interesting drink specials and the prices are about average. The decor and layout are quirky enough to make it stand out from other bars in the area; it's the place I take friends from out of town when they ask what good bars are in Troy. As other people have said, however, the bartenders can be rather rude sometimes but it's nothing that would keep me from going back. Otherwise it's a great place to chill out with friends. read more

Footsy Magoo's is just an average bar. There's virtually nothing bad to say about it, except that maybe they don't have Guinness on tap. I was a little peeved that they served me a Guinness without telling me it was out of a can, but if this is the biggest complaint I can think of, the place must be pretty good. Unfortunately, there's also not all that much good to say for it, either. You'll probably have a perfectly good time there, with some fun games to pass the time, but it'll never be the sort of place you'll rave about. I thought it was called "Footsy" rather then Frosty. Hmm. Anywho... I was a huge fan after my first 2 visits. Really funky decor and fun stuff to do while there. And, super comfy bar stools! Casual eclectic light fair from 11am-11pm. However, the food usually isn't available, kitchen closed. Too bad because the menu looks great. I was ok with limited selections in all beverage catagories. I can always find something I like. But when I ordered a Kettle 1 on the rocks and was served water on the rocks from the bottle, that killed any good thoughts I had about the place. It was the first drink of the night. There was no mistaking water for vodka at that point. We were a group of 8 and everyone tasted it and agreed . Just to be safe, we ordered a shot of kettle 1 and a shot of a well vodka. Nothing to disguise the taste or alcohol content. The kettle 1 was water. Very sad to see a new bar resorting to such shaddy ILLEGAL cost cutting measures. By doing so they lost 8 customers and gained a lot of word-of-mouth bad rap. I'd be surprised if they didn't shut down within a year. read more

Pleasant space with ample beer and liquor specials, cheap and DEEP glasses of wine, and pleasant staff who work hard to keep the hordes of youngish regulars and students drunk and watered. They have Bingo on Wednesdays and recently I spotted KARAOKE. The jukebox volume is turned up too high, or is that the prune juice I drank at the retirement home this morning? Skee-ball is a quarter, foosball and pinball machines in another room, and there is a small patio in the back that fills with smokers and people who only smoke when they're drinking. I must politely dispute the myth that Footsy's is neither popular nor a place for televised sports - it is extremely popular because everyone thinks it's a hidden gem, there are often games on, and you will be bumping butts with lots of strangers on weekend nights. For quieter times, enjoy the back room (near the snack bar which is inconsistent in its operating hours) between the patio and the men's room. read more

Love this place. Not your average bar. The bar itself is beautiful, the bartenders are knowledgeable, the decor is fun. They offer games, darts, skee-ball, spider stomp, and some arcade games. The bartenders have a list of specials which are usually perfect for each season. There are several different rooms with different seating and noise levels to satisfy your different moods. Sometimes there are live bands as well. The women's bathroom is decorated with old women's magazine ads giving it a 50's feel, apparently the men's bathroom is decorated with 70's porn. Pretty awesome and unique place. It's kind of hard to find if you've never been taken there by someone else. The Diagon Alley of bars. read more

Excellent bar that I've seen packed and dead but I've enjoyed it each time. They have these delicious and unique hot cocktails for winter drinking that were just $5 each, and after moving up from NYC this fall I have to say that was a sight for sore eyes.
