One of the conveniences we really appreciated was having firewood delivered directly to our campsite--it made our stay even more enjoyable. The owners are truly amazing. The showers are coin operated. You get 5 minutes for .50, so not too bad. There is a Walmart, gas station, grocery store, and liquor store within 10 minutes from the campground. The woman at the front was very nice....however, the...from what I could tell "seasonals" were a different story. Yes, some were nice and friendly. However... There was a comment made during adult bingo, and someone said "lynch him lynch him" naturally as someone part of the bipoc community, I IMMEDIATELY felt uncomfortable. In addition, someone stated, "come as you are" & multiple other people said "this is a family campground." Yet, then proceeded to talk about...upside down pineapples, (look up the meaning) and other things. Again, this was an adult bingo, and I don't mind raunchy, but those were very discriminatory statements made. In addition, the "seasonal" campers, or possible group campers made us feel VERY uncomfortable at the pool.

For some time we knew the shallow well on our property was in its last days. Outdated in every way…read moreit was just a matter of time until a new, deep, modern one would have to be drilled. We'd done some research, spoken to some reputable well drillers, and then just waited and hoped. Having a new one built was, no matter how or when approached, going to be an expensive project. When, last Friday late afternoon, we started to loose water pressure and our trusted plumber came by, we learned that the time was NOW. The old one had failed. Needed repairs would be costly and very temporary. First thing Saturday morning we called Contoocook hoping for, at best, some contact early Monday. But we got a return phone response almost immediately, and upon learning our situation, someone from the company on site in less than an hour. The first session set the pattern for all our dealing with Contoocook Artesian Well. Prompt. Informed. Customer focused. And delightfully frank and honest. Our needs were accessed. Solutions put forth to be weighed and valued. How. Where. When. And as important, that always asked question, "How much?" I won't go into every detail, but will say that every aspect of our experience with Contoocook Artesian Well was extraordinary. A 2nd site visit (on a Sunday!) allowed us to choose and indicate exactly where the well was to be drilled. A contract was signed. And just when promised, mid-Monday morning, the team arrived with the heavy equipment. Three days later we had abundant fresh sparkling water flowing through our taps. Every step of the way we were kept informed. Every member of the team was personable. Problems were overcome. Challenges met with obvious expertise. Getting a deep well drilled is never inexpensive. We'd researched it enough to know that and understand why it is so -- so we were prepared for that fact. But value for money was received. And what could have been (and, based on what friends have experienced elsewhere, has been for some) a hellish experience was just the opposite for us. Contoocook Artesian Well thus gets a full five stars by this reviewer. And I'd give them more if they were there to give. This company -- and these people -- are in our experience THE BEST.

We had only lived in our new home for 24 hours when the dug well dried up. (Seller misrepresented…read morethe situation) Contoocook Well responded immediately and drilled an artesian well for us. Now, 47 years later, the original pump gave out. Contoocook Well responded immediately again, sending a competent, courteous technician. The troubleshooting and replacement were done in one afternoon, and instructions as to how to manage shock treatment of the well after opening the well were thorough. We're very grateful this excellent water service company is so close by, and so capable of responding. (And the price was reasonable.)

This center served as my home base for a series of hiking adventures on and around Mount Monadnock…read morein June. I was assigned a lakefront cottage that was extremely spacious and quite comfortable. There are more modern, and more fully outfitted, condos but I enjoyed the scenic view and quite setting of my cottage. Pilgrim Pines is a venue that hosts a variety of visitors. There are summer camps, conferences and, likely, retreats but my visit was with a group of hikers and artists who stayed on property from Sunday through Friday. Meals are held in the main dining room and are served buffet-style which made it easy to enjoy what I wanted and to the leave the rest for others. Guests are expected to place dirty dishes and glassware in a bin which makes for a quick and easy clean up. There is a 2 1/2 mile loop around the lake that can be enjoyed during a leisurely walk or a more ambitious run. There are also trails and dirt roads/paths nearby for additional outdoor excursions. The water was a little too cold for my tastes but the lake seemed to be inviting and would certainly provide a smooth place to canoe. There is a small store on property with hours that vary according to need. It offered a lovely selection of toys for children, sweet treats, Christmas ornaments and other holiday decor, jewelry, original paintings and some items representative of the region. Definitely worth checking out if you can manage to be around when staff opens it up for business. Every staff member I encountered added to the overall enjoyable experience of staying here. It was always easy to strike up a conversation or ask for any assistance. A lovely chapel on property did double duty as a morning yoga studio and an evening presentation spot for guest speakers. The real highlight of the stay, particularly after an exhausting day hike, was the shower. It had great water pressure and hot water that helped to make the muscles feel much better. Due to the religious affiliations of this property alcohol is off limits. Guests are welcome to enjoy the books, games, puzzles and even the TV found in the main lodge but for me the chance to enjoy the outdoors or just curl up with a book in my little lakeside nook was all I needed!
