Varied pieces celebrating the ends of many famous persons. A rosette from the bunting on Lincoln's funeral train, invitations to memorial services for many famous people. A hand organ played as funeral music for Franklin Roosevelt. So many items to see. All tastefully displayed throughout a currently working funeral home. The museum is free to the public but you are welcome to make a donation if you would like. Donations are forwarded to local charities. The museum began as an autograph collection but when someone included a funeral notice with the autograph, (Joe Louis), Famous Endings resulted.

This is the first museum that I can recall which honors the contributions from the home front. Dennison Depot was a stop for these soldiers on the way to the front and the town went out of their way to ensure they were supported, serving up thousands of gallons of coffee and millions of cookies and so much more. The museum itself is a series of railroad cars that have been recovered and restored. As you walk through the cars, there are signs and captions that show the history, explain the memorabilia and more. Friendly folks who were happy to have a visitor this morning. They have a well-greased machine. I was a little concerned at first, because the waiting room was so loud and chaotic, but once we got on the train, everything ran smoothly. Parts of Elijah were good, but many parts were not. I was especially grieved about the portrayal of Elisha. He was a wonderful prophet of God yet he was portrayed in a very silly manner and that was a great disservice to him. However, the workers at the theater were very kind and we did enjoy our meal.

What a great afternoon we had exploring this neat museum in Historic Roscoe Village. It's not…read morelarge, but we still spent nearly three hours exploring every nook and cranny. The lone staffer was extremely friendly, and when we asked about a particular display, she checked and got back to us with detailed information. There are three permanent displays, American Indian, Pioneer Ohio and Oriental. Apparently the majority of the collection was a bequest by the local Johnson brothers and consisted of over 14,000 items. there were also two additional displays, a WWI traveling display and a room filled with local beer advertising memorabilia. Really appreciated the identifying signs and additional information which put the exhibits in context. Lots to see and learn here. Love these little museums...and this one was exceptional!

A hidden GEM with Great Wine! Nothing fancy, just a pole barn on top of a hill. They have great…read morefood, but it is by reservation or by food truck only. Make sure to visit the website or call before visiting. They usually have 2 flavors of wine slushies and sometimes a cider. I consider this the best place in the World to buy sweet wine. They offer discounts on 6 bottles or more. Make sure to ask about the Wine Club membership. They do offer re-corking for your leftover wine. Mike, the owner, is a great guy and all of the staff. The atmosphere can feel a little "local" at times, but everyone is very friendly.

The Ohio Swiss Festival (and now Wine and Cheese "party") is a fun distraction from the knowledge…read morethat winter in Ohio is around the corner. Depending on the weather patterns, it can be chilly and rainy or, as it was this past weekend, warm and sunny. It's held the last Friday and Saturday in September and amounts to a parade, row of food vendors, a tent or building where you can buy locally made cheeses, local shops in the village of Sugarcreek open for browsing (which can be done any day), Swiss competitions (steinstossen, etc), music from local oompah bands and loads of people watching. This year was the first where I've seen some of the local wineries combined with the cheese vendors to create a very cool small scale wine tasting. It's not a full day's worth of activities, but given the location, with the drive, some local shopping, and dinner, you're doing the whole day. Don't miss out on getting some cheese. The swiss is to die for. Also consider taking a walk through Andreas furniture store. Finally, if you're bored with the festival, continue on the way down OH-39 and follow the signs to Berlin. There are loads of Amish shops and restaurants there. The countryside is quite scenic too.
