The Johnson Family has been in business in this location for some 30 years. Their building is historic, and has just been honored with a rather prestigious Heritage award of some sort, one granted to only a handful of CA buildings each year. But enough about the cool space, what about the flowers? Most of the flowers they sell are for large events - weddings, funerals, and parties - or delivery orders. And this explains the lack of abundant cut flowers in the large entry room, as you won't see most of the flower inventory until you go into the back room where the designers work, or the coolers where the flowers are stored. In a strange turn of events, a week after I had gallbladder surgery where my mom was taking care of me, she had an appendectomy! Seeing as I was still recovering and couldn't be there, I decided to send her an arrangement of flowers in her favorite colors: blue and white. I chose Foothill Flowers because their online store, which was very user-friendly and easy to navigate, had an arrangement in those colors. It also looked to have white roses(her favorite) in it, so I placed an order to be delivered the day after her arrival home. She was overjoyed with the arrangement they delivered - it looked different and didn't contain white roses, but as long as she enjoys them (she even cried they were so beautiful!) I'm okay with it. She also said out of the arrangements she's received since returning home that the one from Foothill Flowers is by far the prettiest and freshest. How disappointing! I read such great reviews online but it seems that's only for weddings. I completed an order on-line and was ready to finalize purchase and something inside me suggested I phone to confirm delivery. I called the shop directly and was told they had an $80 minimum order and $30 delivery charge. My pending order was only $79 so that wasn't going to cut it. The website had generated a delivery fee of $14.95 + tax, but apparently also something they would be unprepared to fulfill. When I expressed this difference to the person on the phone, he said he would notify the manager but offered no assistance or resolution. I get it, times are tough. Staffing is hard. Customer service should not be the part you compromise. read more

Little backstory - I ordered flowers online last week for a delivery today (Monday) from a different "so called local" flower shop and they completely dropped the ball the day they were supposed to deliver! In somewhat of a panic I found Foothill Flowers and when I called at 11:15am they were able to get a delivery out for me by the end of today! We had to move our wedding to a small backyard ceremony in Penn Valley with only a couple months to prepare, and we called Foothill Flowers to help with the florals. I had a vague idea of what I wanted my bouquet to look like, and the bouquet that they created was more gorgeous than I could have imagined. I also wanted relatively low key decor for the tables, so we asked for some mismatched loose flowers within our color scheme to arrange in some vases we had collected. At the time that we ordered through Foothill, we were still collecting vases and didn't know specifics about heights or numbers, (we also were still deciding on number of tables even!) but Foothill (specifically Mark!) was so helpful and patient with us. I called in the morning and ordered a bouquet for my anniversary. I asked if it could be delivered to a local restaurant as a surprise for my wife for dinner that night. It was suggested I modify my selection slightly so as to fit better on a restaurant table...good thinking! When we arrived for our dinner reservation the flowers were on our table waiting for us and they were lovely...and my wife was duly pleased! Foothill Florist did all the flowers for my wedding at Empire Mine on September 7, 2014, and they were absolutely stunning! Everything was so perfect, my bouquet was more than I could imagine and the flowers were so stunningly fresh and of very high quality. Everything was delivered to our venue exactly on time (actually about 5 minutes early!) and they were so easy to work and very dependable during the planning process. Foothill Flowers did the flowers for my September 10th wedding, and I could not have been more pleased. I am not local, so all of the work I did with the florist was over the phone. I sent over a few pictures for initial phone chats, talked about what I was looking for and what I needed. They kept in touch, and a few days before the wedding called to double check the order, the flowers, and even the color of my bridesmaids' outfits so that they could match the ribbons accordingly. The day of the wedding dawned, and the bouquets arrived, and they were just beautiful. They were exactly what I was looking for, full of greens and creams and a little blush, beautiful succulents, kale, and--the crowning glory--the most beautiful, slightly pink dahlias I have ever seen. I had dropped off vases before the wedding, and Foothill filled and delivered them for me. They also made a beautiful bower to hang from the pergola in which we married. Foothill Flowers did my wedding flowers this past weekend, and they were undoubtedly gorgeous. My bouquet, in particular, was absolutely wonderful. I had asked them to copy my bouquet from a photograph, and they did a perfect job. However, I did have one or two complaints. Firstly, I wanted orange roses to be set at each of my place settings at my receptions, and the roses were pink. The reception looked pretty, nonetheless, but the shade of pink that I got is far from my favorite, and I was a little disappointed because I had a clear idea of what I was expecting, but did not receive it. Additionally, I felt that communication was somewhat poor during the ordering process. I live in Washington DC, and we sent in a deposit to 'save the date,' but never received confirmation of the payment. I actually had to reach out to them regarding this. They did apologize, but they also said the rest of my payment was "due immediately" because it was already past due. I kind of felt this was a little silly -- I paid my deposit, they didn't contact me for months, I contact them, and all of a sudden, I owe them more money immediately, implicitly because I am late, even though they had never said anything about any of this to me before? Finally, my bouquet -- while incredibly gorgeous -- did not last very long. It actually started to look wilted a few hours into the reception, which came directly after the ceremony. So it lasted only 3 or 4 hours. My sister actually commented on how badly the flowers were starting to look, which made me a little sad, because (like any bride), I had a soft spot for my bouquet. read more
