The Fans Wear - Atlanta

I am a huge Georgia Bulldogs football fan, so you can imagine how excited and happy I've been since…read morethey dethroned the mighty Alabama Crimson Tide by a score of 33-18 and won the college football national championship on January 10. Even though it's been a month since then, I still feel like I'm dreaming. But the reality is my Dawgs are the champions of college football. Since the victory, I've purchased a banner commemorating Georgia's championship season and another banner for the Atlanta Braves' World Series championship last October. But I bought those from the Fanatics.com website. I only recently found out about The Fans Wear. I discovered it by accident as I was in the Mall at Peachtree Center food court. It's a small sports fan store near the Chick-Fil-A. It's very colorful and well lit on the inside. When I stopped by today (February 11, 2022), there was a television broadcasting the Winter Olympics. You can find just about anything representing the major local sports teams (Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Hawks, Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta United, University of Georgia, Georgia Tech, and Georgia State), from hoodies, banners, collectibles, t-shirts, jackets, hats, book bags, etc., but they also have other teams as well. I was laser focused on finding a commemorative plaque representing Georgia's national championship season. I'd seen some online, but I didn't feel like ordering and waiting for it to come in the mail. The Fans Wear had the exact same plaques that I saw on the Fanatics.com website. A beautiful varsity-style black and white Georgia Bulldogs jacket that I'd never seen before caught my eye, but it cost more than I was willing to spend right then. The prices at this store are a little higher than what I saw on the Fanatics.com website. For instance, the commemorative Georgia plaque I ended up purchasing cost $99.99 there, but on the Fanatics website it just got marked down to $79.99. Still, after taxes and shipping, I probably would've paid the same price ordering it online. I bought a Georgia magnet for my refrigerator that would've cost $7 online but the vendor let me have it for only $5. With taxes, I spent a total of $114.33 for the plaque and magnet. I am pleased with my purchases and plan on coming back soon. The only reason I didn't rate it 5 stars are the prices and the fact that this store doesn't stay open late. Its hours of operation are 10am - 6pm, Monday - Saturday. Like most stores and restaurants in the Mall at Peachtree Center, the majority of their customers are people who work at the many high-rise offices in the area and the tourists staying at the nearby hotels. It's in a convenient location near the Peachtree Center Marta transit station. If you have money to spend and love sports, you'll enjoy it here.

I really like the selection of different items that they have available and they have many unique things that I have not seen in other places. I like how they have everything organized so you can find exactly what you are looking for. The staff here is knowledgeable and willing to take the time to make sure that you are helped.

If you're an Atlanta Hawks fan, the Philips Arena Team Gear Store is the best place to buy Hawks…read moremerchandise. I'm a huge NBA fan and have apparel from six different teams (Hawks, Spurs, Heat, Knicks, Bobcats, and Clippers). Most of the stuff I own I purchased online at the NBAStore.com. That's usually the best way to go if you want authentic merchandise, but aren't in the city of your favorite team. The Team Gear Store has at least three locations inside Philips Arena. The main store is located directly across from the CNN Center food court entrance. The other ground floor location, which is located on the opposite end of the "Hawk Walk" concessions and close to the Taco Mac and Georgia World Congress Center entrances, specializes in custom jerseys and women's apparel. The upper level store is located just around the escalators and carries a limited selection of the main store's offerings. The Philips Arena Team Gear Store and the NBA Store both have good Hawks merchandise selection online, but the store with the best selection is the Team Gear Store. I was able to purchase my red Al Horford "ATL" (Hawks alternate uniform) t-shirt by Adidas here. You can't find the red "ATL" jersey tees anywhere else, including the NBA Store whose version says "Atlanta" across the front instead of "ATL" like the real Hawks jerseys. They also have the home white and road blue versions too. The Team Gear Store has apparel for several Hawks players including some of the role players like Zaza Pachulia, Jeff Teague, Kirk Hinrich, and Tracy McGrady. If you want your own jersey, the secondary ground floor location has a machine that will print your name on a blank jersey for you. At every Hawks game I've been to this season, it seems like there's always some kind of sale going on at the Team Gear Store. One night, they had a Joe Johnson All-Star 2012 t-shirt on sale for $10. Another night, they had a retro red and yellow Atlanta Hawks t-shirt on sale for $10. Great deals, especially considering most authentic NBA t-shirts cost $20+. My Horford shirt was $25. There's something for everyone including women and kids. Not only apparel, but memorabilia and novelty items like basketballs, golf balls, bobble heads, flags, posters, and stuffed animals. Game-worn Johnson or Horford jersey for $975 anyone? They have some game-worn jerseys of lesser known players who don't play for the Hawks anymore for "only" $300 (e.g. Damien Wilkins, Pape Sy). The Team Gear Store is open Monday through Saturday from 10am-5pm (and during Hawks games) and also has an online store. The employees I've encountered have been friendly and helpful.

UPDATE: I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER SHOE IN THIS STORE.. sorry Jeff I was rocking with you…read moreunfortunately, I came into Walter's to use store credit from a pair of shoes I returned in January. I was told when I made the return that all I'd need was my ID -- the store keeps the slip on file. When I gave my name and ID, the associate couldn't find my slip. Instead of continuing to look thoroughly, he accused me of already using the credit or that it wasn't in my name, suggesting I was trying to get over on the store. This was said in front of other customers, which left me feeling humiliated, disrespected, and singled out. I later found a picture of my slip and saw the store had made the error -- my name was written incorrectly on their end. Which was funny because I was told it was my fault and that in all the years the store had been operating, they had "never made a mistake." My name starts with an "S" why was there an "M" on the slip, I have no clue. Even after it was clear I was right, there was no apology or effort to make things right. In that moment, I did not feel I was given the same respect or fair treatment that another customer might have received. The entire interaction was unprofessional and extremely disappointing.
