I find Foodtown's new revamped look very pleasing. They now have a variety of products. The aisles are still cramped, but that's just how it is. It's clean and I've found the associates to be very helpful and friendly. I'm local, so I'm in there at least once a day. The bad reviews I'm seeing are older one's. Most of this store is fairly nice. However, the produce section is bizarrely dreadful. Herbs can be limp and brown, the garlic has often sprouted, peaches and nectarines go from rockhard to brown in a day, a box of cherry tomatoes or strawberries surrounds a mold-covered mass, potatoes have gone green, and cucumbers and squash are squishy. This place is getting a bad rap. I've generally found this place to have decent prices, and come from the city. I've compared produce and other grocery items and they're not super out of line. They have specials (like 3 bottles of Tropicana for $9) that are easily comparable to the Stop & Shop in Peekskill (which is closer to us than Shoprite in Fishkill). Yes, they're a small store but compared to the city where I live, it's actually kind of normal and has a decent selection. Good selection of coffee, cereal, meats, and gourmet items, it's really hard to complain. For a quick go-to supermarket, this is it for us. Larger trips end up in Peekskill for more selection. I've always found the staff to be super friendly and helpful. Keep up the good work. read more

I was surprised FoodTown even existed anymore. Even more surprised to hear rock music being played in here. For a supermarket out in the bumblefluck suburbs I was surprised at how narrow and cramped the aisles were. Whatever, we got what we needed and left. Seemed like a well stocked store. It's a great place for yummy but overpriced Italian cookies. Oh hell, everything here is overpriced! My bevy of complaints: 1. This place is the size of a stamp. 2. There is no fish counter, which is bad if you're in the market for fish that hasn't already been prepackaged. But there is a nice guy who makes sushi over by the deli counter, so I guess that makes up for it. 3. If more than 15 people show up to shop at one time, it becomes crowded. 4. I still haven't figured out the Greenpoints system and at this rate, I probably never will. 5. ShopRite in Fishkill is cheaper and has a larger selection, but they're a 15 minute drive over hill and dale (otherwise known as Route 9 North). Therefore, people in the immediate area are stuck with Foodtown and their high prices. Positives: 1. The sushi guy. He's cool! 2. They carry a lot of healthy/organic foods that anyone can appreciate. 3. They actually have a very good selection of cooking spices. 4. They sell stamps at the courtesy desk, so if the post office is closed and you're in a jam, they'll help you out. 5. Most of the shoppers here are really nice and actually smile, whereas people in ShopRite sometimes look like they want to run you down with their carts. Come on, people! Don't take it so seriously. Great selection of staff for a smaller market. Reminds of Pacific Coast Greens witch is a tinny food trade stand in Ventura on an Native American Reservation on the PCH . How ever they do have a 2 day old meat policy were they can still hold the meat on the floor . I guess you can still eat it ? But beside that everything els here is superber . Overpriced (seriously so), generally mediocre to outright poor service, mismarked items (of course higher than labeled), middling quality yet overpriced produce and an indifferent attitude by most (though not all) of the staff. Once I selected a produce item that was marked on sale, but the system rung it up at a higher price. The cashier and manager were so unhelpful and unapologetic (it was the store's fault) that I said forget it. No sense of decent customer service, even with their exorbitant prices. Amazing. I have stopped coming to Food Town so often, and head to Beacon or Peekskill instead when I can. Or I schlep products from Trader Joe's in the city, which is a far better deal. Avoid. PS. It's telling that the two times I was in Angelina's, patrons could be overheard discussing how expensive Food Town is. read more

First time at this store, actually went twice back-to-back, and the customer service was atrocious. The store is quirky, so their asset would only be their customer service. I, and my wife and son, family of a West Point Firstie had the most distasteful, immature, rude service by our cashier, another young man, and an asst. Mgr (?). I've been in the Emergency Services business for almost 40 years and my agency has terminated personnel for such actions. Totally inappropriate. The good people of Cold Spring and their cash carrying visitors deserve so much better. Two opportunities to ensure repeat customer; complete fail. I won't be back. read more

Yes, its definitely overpriced, but the nearest large grocery otherwise is ShopRite in Fishkill. We only do our smaller shopping trips here. $50 doesnt buy much. That said, the selection is very good and the staff is generally helpful. read more

Beware routine over pricing scam. Three consecutive times non organic produce was charged at the organic price which was 50% higher. Each time I protested and eventually after much scowling and foot dragging was given the correct price. Never any kind of apology! They are so disdainful and arrogant one begins to wonder if this is a deliberate policy. While waiting at check out heard a manager saying loudly to a cashier of another customer "if they don't like it here they can drive 20 minutes to the nearest store. " This perfectly conveys their mentaility. Utterly shameless. The problem starts with management . They believe they have a local monopoly. read more

Small, but friendly and well stocked. I think some of the prices are high, but they do run sales and have a good variety of fresh items. It's not a place for weekly shopping, but it's great for a quick stop and they do seem to have a good selection of natural and organic items that you might not find in other supermarkets. It seems to do a lot of business with the locals and I would imagine the visitors that spend weekends in Cold Spring probably frequent it in the summer since it's very convenient to the village. read more

The negative reviews here are pretty off base. This is a small town -- we don't need a suburban grocery store here the size of a football field. The selection is more than adequate -- I'm failing to think of anything I needed that I couldn't find -- and the prices seem fair to me, especially coming from Brooklyn. (In addition, if you get a rewards card the specials and sales are fantastic.) The staff is quite friendly -- maybe the people complaining are themselves big pills. Sure, if you want gourmet, big box wholesale, or all natural go elsewhere (and those places are all within easy driving distance) but for an everyday grocery store this more than fits the bill. read more

First time shopping here in a long time. Last time was not too different. I walked in and immediately heard one employee regaling to another about how they made some wise crack to a customer. It's the kind of incident where you think, am I next? And If I am, I am so ready for it! Looked around store. Manhattan prices, but it's not Manhattan, it's Mayberry! Went to the register with my items. Asked a question about the credit card reader. Sorry for asking! The woman threw my receipt on counter as she took another customer. I expected some major improvements after their renovation. Sadly, this store is as frustrating as ever. The aisles are still very narrow with stupid case stacks in the middle of each. If you meet another person with a cart in said aisle, you must back up to let them by or scrape yourself along the shelves to pass. There is no organization of the offered products at all. Example-one would think that hot sauce would be found with other condiments such as ketchup, mustard, salad dressings barbecue sauce and such. NO WAY! Hot sauce is mysteriously shelved along with pasta sauce and pasta. Jams and jellies are on three different aisles-so are nuts and dried fruit. Their refrigerated cases boast lots of new chilled microbrews and 6 different kinds of kombucha (eeeacch!), but somehow, they don't stock buttermilk? They carry the ubiquitous Boar's Head deli meats but at 25% more than just about anywhere else. Huge slabs of Pamesan Reggiano are covered with greenish grey mold. Cheese is stocked in 3 different places too. The produce section has not been expanded and as always, leafy produce is limp and wilted, potatoes look find on the outside but are rotten in the middle. The only red onion to be found is about 6 inches in diameter and soft. For some odd reason, they've moved all their health and beauty items to the shelves at the end of the the checkout lanes, so it's virtually impossible to shop this section without being run over by people leaving the store. If you have a big list of grocery shopping to do, plan on spending about 35-40% more than you would anywhere else. Warning though, you'll still need to drive to another store to finish your list because invariably, they won't stock those 4-5 items you're really looking for. On a positive note, their staff is really great-helpful and friendly. But it hardly makes up for the high prices and disorganization. read more

Yes, they have expanded and hopefully will carry more organic products including chia chips which they had for only a short time! Little disappointed in the frost bitten organic ice cream I just bought! :( I also hope they don't take advantage of their customers and continue charging 3x the price for organic meat products that you can find at other grocery stores further away. read more
