This is the first time visiting a FoodMaxx. This is located on Oro Dam Blvd in Oroville. This is in a shopping center that also has Grocery Outlet..Round Table..Fitness..etc. I went here because the last time I went to Raleys in Oroville I found mold on the cheeses I had bought. YUCKY! This place is huge with a wide selection of items to choose from. I got the rotisserie chicken for 7.99. I also noticed they had good deals on dry food. Great display of deals! Good fresh selection of fruits and vegetables. They also have a bakery along with wine and beer. Hard alcohol also available. The only issue is there was a couple of homeless out front. This is a constant issue in Oroville. I visit here but I live in Nevada County. I went pretty early and it was not crowded. You do bag your groceries which is not a big deal. Foodmax is one of those stores where you really should only go to if you are a meth addict, gang member, or just a complete loser of society. That is what shops there, every location I've ever been to but the Oroville location is the worst. My fiance and I moved to Oroville and this is where we went probably the first 2 months, and we never left there without people staring at us, looking like they wanted to Rob us, grab me, harass me or harass both the bus. It was always a very sketchy place to go but then we found Smart & Final just down the road. When we started chatting with some of the employees at Smart & Final and told them we're so happy to find it, they asked where we had been shopping and when we said food max they basically cocked, and said that you two actually stepped foot in foodmaxx?? They were completely in shock we would go to such a grotesque store with such disgusting patrons. Definitely will never step foot in a FoodMaxx again, as long as that smart and final is in oroville. God about two bags more of groceries for the same type of stuff we got our food max for about 50 to $75 cheaper than FoodMaxx as well read more

I food a watermelon with black seeds. Yahoo! The produce lady and gentleman was very helpful. The ambiance was nice and clean.

They never have enough checkers. Sometimes only one or two at the busiest times of the day.

Everytime I go here I see someone I don't wanna see. Decent food though. The rotisserie chicken is worth the awkwardness most the time.

I was just in the Oroville, CA store to pick up a few things for dinner. I was going to use the self serve machine. I put my grocery bag onto the area that said use your own bag. The cashier had to reset the machine. A man then picked up my bag and tossed into my cart and told me that I would have to bag after I rang up the items. I said I wasn't going to do that because I am disabled. It would cause me needless lifting. He was really rude and continued to tell me how to do it. I then told them both "never mind, I'm not going to buy my groceries there. As I was walking out to my car, a nice young lady called to say that I left my bag in the store. Shopping here is a mixed bag sometimes but definitely better then Raley's. The Dairy guy is always helpful and will take his time to show you where the product is you're looking for. Half of the employees are pathetic, mindless, and insulting. Their managers are also pathetic and insulting, NEVER ask for help, they will insult you. Also, they keep the dirtiest shopping carts on Earth and I got scabies on my wrists from their carts one time.. I should have sued them. Update: 3-18-20 The cv-19 illness has caused a depletion of food at Foodmaxx, I can never blame them for that. However, I CAN blame them for their understaffed and angry employees. Again, we are having more issues with employees who treat their customers like they are driving our bus and we are being told to sit down, shut up, and NO QUESTIONS. Instead of notifying customers at the door with a sign which reads "NO MORE BAGS", would be nice, instead the lady raised her voice to me when I asked a second time for bags with my $200 purchase. Lastly, and this one is the kicker; after the store had been cleaned out and ALL the pasta was purchased and removed, I noticed piles rat poop where the pasta boxes once occupied. Ya, RAT POOP... This is a place I often shop at. Wide variety of reasonably priced products. Sooooooo, here's the dark part of FoodMaxx. I work a late night shift at my job. When you visit FoodMaxx late at night, you get a whole different experience. First off, their clientele are much more on the shady side. There are some very colorful characters in there at 1:30 am. That's something FoodMaxx has no control over. But! The biggest thing I've noticed at that time of day is that IS NOT A PLACE YOU WANT TO TAKE YOUR CHILDREN OR GRANDPARENTS TO. Seriously! All, ALL! of the stock personnel are more vulgar than drunk sailors at a Whore House. They drop more F.A.S.G and C bombs than you can possibly imagine. The cashiers attitudes have gotten to the point where im actually surprised if I get greeted at the cash register (not that my day won't continue without their greeting-- js...). Local police seem to be keeping the parking lot beggars in check more often. This place is a hive of dithering idiots on foodstamps. They are rude, ghetto, uneducated. Another update....Super Walmart has seemed to have won over a good portion of the riff raff that swarmed here and new parking lot security has gotten rid of almost all the homeless people who would congregate here. So went in bought two bags of potatoes, I got home, put my food away and started to smell something nasty well a day later I still couldn't find the nasty smell but it was coming from my food cabinet. I thought it couldn't be the potatoes I just bought those a day ago. Well I open them up any ways to find some cut up and there was chunks of black death in them. I call foodmaxx just to be told I can bring them back and get more, I had already threw them in my yard waste there's no way I was putting them back in my car the guy I talk to was rude and no help. We were in there last week and bought a side of bottom round for $2.89 a pound. Went there yesterday an now it is $4.49 a pound. Talked to another gentlemen there that said he was here last week and it looks like they raised the prices on most of their meats about $1.00 to $2.00 per pound. Now Foodmaxx wouldn't be gouging us locals a couple of days before Thanksgiving would they? That would not be showing the giving holiday spirit now would it? I used to love to go shopping at Food max, friendly people very helpful but that's before they started changing the store, now you can't find anything you ask the help there and they act like your bothering them, hello it's your job. And usually the customer comes first like if your walking down an isle and a worker is doing something they wait for you to get out of the way, patients. Today one of the workers look annoyed because I was trying to find hamburger I turned to him and said I'm sorry am I in your way and he said yes, Very rude. Not a big fan at all. I used to be though. In the past 12 to 18 months, this store has seen it's standards drop dramatically. Prices are not as low as they used to be or as low as they would have you believe. Even considering the economy, the level and extent of the price increases seems to much greater when compared to increases at the other stores. Then, you have the employees who are not as friendly or helpful as they used to be even though I see a lot of the same faces there as before. That says something to me about the management. Higher prices, while not desirable, are tolerable if the employees make you feel welcome, appreciate your business, and keep the place clean and presentable. Not so much here! Some days have been better than others, but I like consistency. So.....I made the switch locally to Raley's. Maybe someday I'll make the switch back....maybe. read more

Lines are always long and they never have enough register open. What's the point of having so many register but only opening 2 lanes? Was there last night to just pick up something quick, had two items and I had to wait 10 mintues to just check out because the self check out was closed. Should of been an in and out process. They only had two lanes going and everyone in line had full carts. They should probably consider opening up more lanes than just two when they see how long the line gets. read more

All the employees are super helpful. The selection is good, and the produce is always pretty well stocked. Only place in town to buy meat at a reasonable price. Best booze prices in town. The red wine section could be larger, but the hard liquor is hard to pass up. The only complaint I have ever had was when they didn't have cool whip the one time I needed it. B+ read more

I will not be shopping here any more, they keep raising the prices weekly, I'm old and I eat a lot of frozen dinners, especially Marie Calendars. They do have some really good ones. One of my favorite dinners used to cost $2.50 a month ago. It now is $4.26. or 4.38 can't remember as I was so angry when I saw the price. All the really cheep dinners used to $2 to $2.50 they are now $3.36 They always kept the cost down until they put in all the new freezers and changed the store around. I shopped for the last time a couple of days ago late around 10 p.m. 2 cashiers open long lines. One employee a manager or somethin in that line was holding a cell phone to his left ear while trying to fix a mistake for one of the cashier's. Not cashier's fault. He never took that phone from his ear guess he should just tape it there. Another employee is just stand in the other line flirting with 4 girls, doing nothing must be nice to get paid to flirt. They don't care. They are raising prices because the Walmart Super store opened and they have lost a lot of business. If they don't lower prices they will be gone. I hate our new Walmart as they stock shelves when everyone is shopping. Not from 12 midnight to 6 a.m. when they are closed. Tried to shop at 7 a.m. could not buy any of the groceries I needed. None on the shelves. I now shop at Marysville Walmart. read more

Always check out there deal/coupon pages, you can usually find something for a good deal you can use. The veggies are fresh, varied, and usually cheap! The store is laid out well and they cut their own meat, this makes it cheaper. You do have to bag your own stuff but this store is much better and has a better selection than they Walmart. They price gouge at the beginning of the month because they know all of the poor Orovillians on food stamps are gonna shop there. The people stocking the shelves will run you over if you're in their way. The cashiers are rude. Their produce is of generally poor quality. Nothing is consistent in this store. This is the economical place to shop in Oroville. However, I can't help notice that the prices, particularly on produce, are 25-30% higher than the FoodMaxx in Chico. You would save a lot by doing your food shopping at the Chico store. This is true despite the fact that the produce distributor for both stores, Pacific Produce, is walking distance in Oroville. Second, while they have now installed some automatic checkouts they use them only during the busiest hours. I have gone there at 8 p.m. and found lines at least 25 long. So long that they converged at the ends into an impossible mess. Apart from keeping the automatic open, this FoodMaxx has never heard of an express checkout lane. Everything is done to maximize profits (they think!) with no consideration for the customers. Aparently the local Oroville residents are too sheepish ("polite") to do anything about it. Did a lil grocery shopping after work and I can't believe the type of customer service out there now. Manager is in a register next to us, employee who's going on break and grabs a drink comes running up to us and asked if he can go ahead of us. We said yes since we thought he had to get back to work. This employee did not go back to work, he went to one of the games and tried to get a prize...apparently he didn't get it and proceeds to yell "bull shit!" The manager looks up and that's all. I'm just watching this kid play the game and try to get a prize. I can see him getting upset cuz he's not winning. So what do I do? I told the manager that its not cool when an employee yells bull shit loud enough where paying customers can hear him. He's in his uniform, with a name badge on and whether or not he's on or off the clock, "I" don't think its good customer service and makes me not want to shop here if this happens all the time. Have shopped here for decades. 6 months ago they started to remodel the store. This has to be the worst performance of store re-models in the history of store re-models. At the rate of accomplishment shown thus far, it will be another 6 months of waiting, at the minimum. Nothing is where it should be. As they try and fix one section, they just take those items from that area and shove them into whatever space they have available. Yesterday found chips next to raw hamburger! I feel sorry for the store employees who are paying the price for the incompetent people in charge of this fiasco. A few weeks ago when visiting my mother in Oroville, I stopped at Food Maxx to get some groceries before heading home. I live 2 hours away. I always take an ice chest to insure my food safety. I arrived home, unpacked my groceries and starting putting things away. I bought a salmon filet which I was going to re-package for individual freezing. The salmon was sticky and had a very bad odor. It was obviously bad. I immediately called the store and explained. 't The salmon cost $12.63. I wasn't concerned about that but was more concerned they get the rest of the salmon checked. I was told if I sent the receipt to my mom she could get my refund. I specifically asked if they needed the packaging and was told no and to go ahead and dispose of it with their apologies. I sent the receipt, my mom went to the store and they refused the refund because they didn't have the barcode from the package. Are you kidding me! I spent $71.90 that day and now none of my family members will ever shop there again. And there are several of them. Very poor business practice. No stars! read more
