I ordered the eggs Benedict and it was very sad looking and tasting. I wasn't asked how I wanted my eggs done and the bacon looked like one of those precooked bacon you buy on the shelves. I don't even eat bacon, but if I did. I wouldn't eat what was served to me. However I'm not giving up on this place just yet because my family owned a small restaurant so I can understand the struggle and I don't mind supporting small local businesses. Next to Production Way skytrain station in Burnaby, Rod's Kitchen and Grill closed its doors and made room for another breakfast and lunch eatery. Foodies on Board is an unassuming all day brunch restaurant serving sous vide poached eggs, in house protein (bacon, ham and Italian sausage) and focuses on a healthier way of cooking. To start off, these healthy pancakes tasted great. Every bite had a nice aroma from the caramelized milk and you get the texture from the shredded coconut along with chia seeds. What made it even better was the maple syrup and chocolate hazelnut drizzle! As for the texture, the pancakes were a touch dense as the only leavening agent was whipped egg whites, which I personally did not mind since flavours and textures can be different compared to what we are used to when we use natural food products. SOUS VIDE POACHED FREE RANGE EGGS $9.95. The next plate on the table is what I believe Foodies on Board should be known for, their sous vide poached eggs! We decided to try a Belgian waffle (additional $1.00) as well as the hash browns (additional $1.95) rather than the traditional English muffins. I love how you can mix and match and do not have to order two of the same items! The crispy Belgian waffle topped with wild BC salmon (additional $1.00) had a generous rich and buttery hollandise. On top of that the spinach, lemon caper and cream cheese complimented the salmon well despite that the salmon was on the saltier side. As for the highlight, it was the perfectly executed sous vide egg - honestly the egg could not be any more perfect! The second "benny" we ordered consisted of house cut hash browns topped with arugula and in house cured smoked bacon. The crispy hash browns exhibited a fluffy interior and was well seasoned with garlic and paprika. Moreover, the crispy bacon was perfectly executed - slow cooked, smokey without overwhelming and well rendered. To brighten up the plate, there is also a slice of dragon fruit, pineapple, grapes and blueberries. Yum! FOODIES HASH BROWNS BOWL $12.95. The last breakfast item we ordered was a bowl of house cut potatoes similar to the hash benny and we added another perfect sous vide egg ($1.00?). The hash was noticeably a lot crispier compared to the benny and there was a nice smokiness from the house sausage and cheese. The sauteed onions, peppers and tomatoes complimented the hash as well. THE GARDEN SMOOTHIE $6.95. We finished off breakfast with a smoothie blended with kale, spinach, celery, bitter melon, honey dew, banana and pineapple juice. This was a great smoothie, smooth and not too icey. I hope Foodies on Board can offer fresh pressed juices in the future. Foodies on Board is a great find in Burnaby! The health conscious restaurant carefully prepares their food and focuses on locally sourced produce. I cannot wait to come back to try other items as well as the lunch menu. I really enjoyed this place! It is a cute and friendly place to go. The server was patient and explained the menu to us. I had the chicken and waffles which has a twist of a tandoori taste. My husband got the orange glaze honey ham, poached egg on a English muffin. Everything was delicious! The chef that owns the restaurant is an award winning chef so I am curious how everything taste on the menu. I am impressed by this place and will be back. I wish I could give 3.5 stars. It was good, well prepared, fresh food, without a ton of flavour. I had a chipotle burrito bowl, that came with rice, fresh tomato salad, gauc, chicken, lettuce and beans, but there was absolutely no chipotle to be found in the bowl. I ended up using Siracha to flavour the food. The menu is well thought out and the ingredients are high quality and prepared fresh, just lacking any real flavour. Two Sous Vide Poached Eggs, Zoodle, Garden Greens, Crispy Chickpeas, Garlic Olive Oil Confit Tomato, Roasted Vegetables, Apple Cider Emulsion. All for $10.95. It was busy and hustling. I do not have photos, but the food was 5 star. Just delicious and fresh. My wife had the orange chicken. Best I have tried - light and citrusy (and not gloopy and sugary - like a lot that I have tried.) There are some reviews online that are not so generous which date from a while back. All I can say is I never expected anything this good in the 'hood. Heartily recommend. I will be going back at every opportunity, it is that good. read more

This place is disgusting, their food quality is questionable and from reading the google reviews, it looks like their management or whoever responds to their reviews needs and attitude adjustment and a lesson on customer service. Butter chicken was not butter chicken. It was gristly and rubbery and a weird greenish brown colour. The rice was sushi rice and not basmati and it came "garnished" with a weird single slice of tomato and cucumber which I'm still trying to understand... The Beef Samosa was tasteless and had the consistency of a hot pocket. The Turkey Panini had some weird shaved carrot in it and was flat as a pancake. I would have sent it back and left if I received it in the restaurant, but I ordered it through Skip the Dishes and ended up throwing it right in the garbage. Thankfully Skip the Dishes has great customer service and refunded me for the experience. I would definitley not recommend and am surprised to see so many good reviews on here.. read more

A cute restaurant that is in the Burnaby Production Way neighbourhood that serves breakfast, lunch and early evening dinning on the weekdays and breakfast/lunch only on weekends. There aren't many brunch places around this area so it was really nice to find this restaurant finally. They have a few menus that include weekdays special, their regular menu and brunch board, and build your own poach egg menu. I ordered the chicken and waffle and my husband chose the build your own poached egg with smoked salmon and a side of hashbrowns. The chicken and the waffle was really good! I really like how they used dark meat for the chicken and their batter is more like a fish and chip batter - a bit on the heavier side but it was a nice crispiness. They also add a little twist to their chicken where it is marinated in tandoori sauce and topped with mango chutney instead of maple syrup with a side of butter chicken sauce which actually works! The waffle here very nice and light too! Hubby also liked the poached egg he had. It was nice and runny as he liked it and he was raving about the hasbrowns too. The restaurant menu and cooking is more of a home style restaurant with menu items that range from brunch, chow mein to butter chicken and not like the typical downtown brunch spots. Honestly shocked this place has decent reviews, this was probably the worst breakfast I've ever had. Egg was half raw sitting in a little cup of oil which came with weird thin shrivels of bacon. As for the avocado toast.. the toast was old and hard and crumbled all over my plate and the whole thing was a sour gross mess. I've been looking for a good breakfast place in Burnaby for some time. I was very excited when this place showed up on my google search. We read the reviews and off we went. I did my research before so I knew there is no waiter service. You come to the counter, order and get a number. It took quite a looooong time for our food to be ready. Even numbers after us were done sooner than ours. However, their lovely server brought our order when it was ready. I love the fact you can build your own poached eggs (bene) the way you like it. You can skip what you don't like and customize. The only note from my side would be that you can't order English muffin and hash browns at the same price. I had to pay extra for hash ($2.95) Side of organic avocado was also available ($3.95) and was ok. We were both puzzled by the side of bacon. My husband ordered that for himself for $3.25 and he got two tiny pieces. I don't know what is going with bacon in that place ehm ehm. There is a choice of hollandaise sauce, you can have it made with butter or olive oil. That is a nice touch. We also tried fresh green and apple juice and it was good. For coffee lovers, this is the place where you can buy a good cup of joe, Italian coffee Lavazza. I've noticed that the place is quite busy, getting people from surrounding industrial area. It created a lot of noise but in downtime, you can have more quiet time. If you come by car, don't pay. Food is pretty good here. I enjoyed my meal quite a bit. My rating factors in the length of time it took for the order to be ready. Went in on a Monday for lunch. Arrived around 10 mins to noon and it wasn't crazy busy there. My lunch took 35 mins. My co-workers were done eating before I received my lunch. We were excited to find a place recommended for brunch less than a 10 minute drive from where we live on Burnaby Mountain. In sum, it's a real diamond in the rough! There's not actually anything "rough" about it; it's just that it's in a commercial area. Our experience there was excellent from start to finish. We shared orders of the fresh avocado on toast and two poached eggs with asparagus and butter hollandaise on English muffins with a side of hash browns. The homemade onion toast was delicious and almost flaky and was an excellent foundation for the fresh and flavourful avocado and other toppings (diced tomato, lentil sprouts, and a little bit of onion). The poached eggs satisfied my pickiness for proper cooking; the deep yellow yolks were runny and the whites were still soft and almost runny without being translucent. We skipped the red pepper aioli due to my bell pepper intolerance, but were nevertheless completely satisfied. The generous serving of hash browns came in a small metal pail on the plate with the eggs. They were skin-on in a roast potato style, including a mix of nugget potatoes and cubes from larger potatoes. There was a light sprinkling of green onion and seasoning that did not overpower the main ingredient. Both dishes had garnishes of fresh fruit. My spouse had a decaf Americano that she said was okay. I stuck with water. The service was friendly and attentive. The decor was nice; a recycled/distressed wood vibe without being overdone. Living mint plants on the table were a nice touch. The place had a fresh and professional yet friendly and family vibe. When we pulled into the parking lot my initial thought, as someone who's grown used to suburban living, was "oh great, pay parking." My reaction was unwarranted as they take plate numbers at the counter for one free hour of parking. Overall impression: Excellent! Food prepared with care. I found this place walking past the skytrain and found out they had just opened. I wasn't aware that there used to be another food place here previously but what it is now is a cute little place serving healthy, fresh and local ingredient food. I really admire them for being completely environmentally friendly also where all the containers they use to go, forks, knives and even straws! Are all compostible! I couldn't believe it!! All other establishments should follow in their footsteps because as the world is going now, we need everyone to do their part & they sure are! I tried the Avocado toast, Lavender London Fog & Chocolate Hazelnut Latte (Technically it's supposed to be without the Espresso because it's just the milk but I got them to add it) And it was all delicious!! Next time i'll take pics, I just always forget because i'm kinda new at this whole yelping thing! I still have other places I wanted to review that i've been to and just haven't but i'll get around to it, don't worry! The service is great! I heard some complaining from people but I think they just naturally complain about everything because its still pretty new and mix-ups are inevitable, even well established businesses have them! Best lunch spot I've found in AGES. They make the food fresh. That means it's about 15 minutes between order and food receipt, but it is SO WORTH IT. I've tried the chicken teriyaki, which has the best coconut rice I've had. The casadias are also amazing. Really good home cooked food for great value. They also have coffee and tea as well. I really wanted to like this place. This review is slightly old as I am still playing catch up on a lot of my writing. I liked that this was by the skytrain station. This won points with me. I came here as I wanted to see my girlfriend for brunch. She is always coming to me, therefore, for a nice change I thought that I would come to her. There isn't a lot by the skytrain, therefore, it's understandable that this place was busy for brunch. This place had a lot of potential, however, there are a few things that fell flat with me. First of all the pricing. I know that brunch in the city is expensive, it's a given, however, this was unusually high for the neighborhood. I am not sure how much they're paying for rent and or staff but brunch shouldn't make you totally broke especially since the portions don't make up for it. I am not saying that I expect a Denny's size meal but a reasonable amount of food, even if filler to justify the price. Again, they have the brunch market cornered in the area so they have the upper hand in this case. The ordering system is a bit different, there is no waiter service, so don't feel guilty if you tip in accordance. I waited 25 minutes for poached eggs and an avocado toast. Any longer and brunch would've turned into dinner with the wait. The lady at the counter was super charming and helpful. If I could give it 0 stars I would. The food was disgusting! The eggs were raw (complete liquid), the cheese sauce was rancid, and the avocado overripe and quite bruised. I called to complain and the supposed manager fought with me that the food was good. She made nothing but excuses and raised her voice several times. She ended up saying she would refund my money but the next day told skip the dishes she would not. Apparently their chefs maintains the food was all cooked and of good quality. Apparently at this business the customer is always wrong and their enjoyment of the food is irrelevant. I will never order from here again. Edit to respond to restaurant: I love how the restaurant came on here and made every excuse for the food being awful rather than apologizing for my experience or feelings and offering to make it right. The egg explination was given and as I explained on the phone the eggs were not white and were clear in color and completely liquid like a raw egg. As I explained then I have a sous vide and am well aware what an egg that comes out of those look like. These were raw!! In addition I explained well before speaking about the credit that the other items were not good. The only item out of my order I would have again was the chocolate milk, it was good. You make it sound like I made up these claims after you offered a credit to get more money which is an out and out lie. I told you right off the bat the three main issues I had. In addition I didn't just complain the cheese was brown so I threw it out. It smelt rancid and made the person who was going to eat it gag. I too smelt it and it indeed smelt rotten. At no point did you tell me it was Guinness cheese nor is this listed on the skip the dishes menu. Lastly I did not complain about the gaucomle. I complained about the sliced avocado that was on top. It was bruised with black spots and noticeably overripe. You twisted my complaints completely to make it appear that your food was up to par but it was so disgusing two different people had to throw items out that were revolting. You asked me what items I wanted credited since you were so sure they were good quality that you weren't willing to do the right thing and refund my order out of good will. Working in the hospitality industry for years this is standard practice with such an awful experience. You did end up agreeing to refund me in full. The next day when I reached out to skip the dishes to give another order a higher tip since the food and experience with creme de Le crumb was so much better I asked if they had heard from you to do my refund. They reached out to you and you told them you were no longer going to fulfill your promise to refund my order in full AND you were not willing to refund for anything since your chef said the food was fine. This is shocking customer service and quite honestly it doesn't matter what your chef says. If the customer is unhappy you don't fight with them to say you are in the right. That is customary is customer service that the customer is always right. At no point did you apologize for how my experience and food was. You couldn't admit that anything that was done was wrong. You were combative, defensive, rude, raised your voice to the point that I felt uncomfortable and got frustrated and upset, not to mention you didn't fulfill your promise. You were so over the top of course I began to get my back up and fight back. I am the customer, trying to give you feedback about an experience that was so poor, you couldn't admit you or your chef was in the wrong. I was in no way abusive as you claim, you were the one who raised your voice and in fact told me I was being "ridiculous" and that skip the dishes agreed. Skip the dishes actually offered me a $15 credit for how awful this all was and apologized in fact they actually advised me that I should give you a negative review and how to. You make it sound like you are working with skip the dishes to make this right but you haven't contacted them to refund me anything. You should be ashamed to run a business this way! read more
