It provides a much more intimate, personalized shopping experience than your average Roanoke supermarket. No wonder it was again voted in 2026, #1 Best Grocery Store by USA Today Readers Choice, as well as #1 Best Grocery Produce, Bakery, Deli, and Prepared Foods. Today, I was able to confirm all of the above through personal experience. As I walked around the store, I was very impressed by all of its departments and the high quality of their offerings. They have beautiful flowers, fresh bread, amazing steaks and seafood, sparkling fruits and vegetables, a great variety of coffees, top-of-the-line wines, and exquisite prepared foods, among others. They were highly engaged and genuinely eager to help. When I asked the meat department if they carried Hanger Steak, the employee gave me a well-reasoned explanation for why they didn't. Little did he know, I had already thoroughly researched Hanger Steak for one of my previous restaurant reviews! At the bakery, I fell in love with their Strawberry Chantilly Cake and its sliced almond topping. The Triple Chocolate Truffle Cake also looked amazingly delicious. I ended up purchasing a Small Fruit Tart to enjoy as a dessert for dinner alongside some sushi I also bought there. Although they have a small seating area with a few tables and a microwave for anyone wanting to dine in, I decided to take my treats inside the shopping center to eat at the marble tables and chairs. My cashier, Malikai, was friendly, efficient, and made the checkout process incredibly smooth and fast. Paying with Google Pay was a breeze. I highly recommend this high-end grocery store! It is on the pricier side, but absolutely worth it for the excellent quality and customer service.

Within 5 miles was another even more amazing grocery store (who we actually got to do our wedding cake because their cakes were so good). The one within a mile to my residence had online ordering, a deli that couldn't be beat, the freshest produce, and plenty of open registers. And the bagging staff knew how to use reusable bags. That grocery store chain was bought out by Kroger and I hoped that the store who bought out my amazing store would also be amazing. When we moved up to Virginia, I had high hopes. I was disappointed. I've been in several Kroger stores now. None measure up to what I left and this one in particular may be the worst, which is tragic because It's the closest to my house. It's a very busy store, being in the heart of Christiansburg. I have yet to see it not crowded. They must not be able to keep up with stocking because frequently there are large holes where sale items once were. Tonight, the cheese section had been absolutely raided. Also, the Bagging staff is hit or miss. The gentleman I had tonight was fabulous. The last time I went, the kid who started bagging my groceries filled one out of what ended up being 7 bags and then wandered back over to the little group of cashiers to finish conversation / go look for some type of nuts that the cute girl of the group asked him to find. To her credit, my cashier was completely professional, didn't say a cross word, apologized and helped me finish my bagging. Frequently, these kids don't understand how reusable bags work, either. The deli team is awesome. And the butcher keeps the meat section well stocked. The Rotisserie Chicken is excellent. The produce aisles are usually well tended. They also have a decent selection of organic products. It's my local store and I'll continue to do the bulk of my shopping there, but I miss my amazing grocery store.

On the upside, you'll struggle to find a place that has more niche brands with vegan, gluten-free, and other specialty items. The local focus is also appreciated. On the downside, I was surprised how expensive it was, and that's with shopping the sale items and the $1 credit I apparently picked up by shopping at the Roanoke Earth Fare.
