I am crippled. My handicap cart ran out of battery. Matt helped me get a new cart n transfer my groceries. Dylan also was a great help with getting my items onto the checkout belt. Also the people in general are eager to help. I ask Matt where the Nilla wafers were an a customer took me to them. I like the quality of food I get at food city as well as the help when I need it. I gave them a 4-star rating overall because they sell a few things that I cannot buy elsewhere, but this is not based on my experience with their horrible cornbread that I nearly choked on last night. Whose nasty receipt is this? Is it that your bakers know less than nothing about baking? Corn is a powerful vegetable. Here's a hint: DO NOT USE 100% CORNMEAL IN YOUR CORNBREAD RECIPE!!! Mix it with other flours. Use some eggs, put more oil in it. If you want good tasting baked goods use a better oil or use an oil--I'm not sure there was much of anything in this cornbread except cornmeal. Add more milk; add some sugar. It was so coarse and dry it lightly blistered my lips, the roof of my mouth and I came very close to choking on it. I should have ran to the nearest sink or basket and spit the crap out. Give your bakery department a freaking cookbook. I don't know whose 'family' recipes they're using, but we also had to return a really vile tasting cherry pie as well. I tossed the cornbread into the trash. I pity the foragers. I probably should have set fire to it. read more

If I could give this Food city a NEGATIVE 5 I most definitely would! THE evening shift here is the SORRIEST shift you will ever come across. The little short haired heavy set girl with the glasses and the heavy set tall dark haired boy who was switched to the Starbucks in the store are 2 of the sorriest pple I have ever met and theres also a couple others! Its actually anyone who works the late evening shift. We have had problems with every single one of them not wanting to work because they're there just to "hangout". Every single time me or my husband go in there to have meat sliced they run out from behind the counter and "pretend" it takes sometimes upto THREE of them to stock something. Or they will run to the opposite end of the counter and stand there talking, laughing and running into the kitchen until I finally yell and ask them if they're going to work or go have David MAKE THEM do their jobs! They even shut the deli down EARLY because " they don't think they should have to wait on customers and try to clean up for the night too" That is the very excuse every one of them have said to us. If you're to sorry to work then stay home because there's REAL MEN out here in this world working a REAL MANS JOB who need meat sliced for their dinner buckets before they climb 1k ft down into a hole to give sorry pple like you all electricity! I just called down there at 7:15p.m. today and couldn't get not one of them to pick up the phone, couldn't get the sorry boys working the front who just stand around at the self service to so much as page them, nothing. At this point I will be calling every single day if I have to to HR until they do something with the poor excuse for workers that they have who live off mommy and daddy and refuse to take a job seriously because regardless if they come to work to actually WORK their job or if its just to stand there (mommy and daddy will handle their bills and the management in food city sure aint worried about it) its pathetic. Some of us choose to act like adults and work and pay our own bills. Some of us have families we have chose to create and want to WORK for our families. My husband and I were visiting for the week for wheeling and staying at Southern gap and we came down into town and were pleased to find that this food city was clean and well stocked with nice people and everything you would expect from a nice grocery store. We Donely forgotten one or two things like we always do when we go camping but we were pleased to be saved a trip to the Walmart. I didn't give it five stars because for goodness sake's it's just a grocery store but I did give it four stars because it's nice it's clean and everybody was kind inside I was disappointed because nobody lied to us about anybody in our churchFrom the previous review I was expecting some backwoods hole in the wall crazy store but nope it's just a normal store however since I know I'm going to come back here I know I'll be visiting this food city again read more

my husband and i went to get a few things for us and also for our church at food city. it was to be a charge. we have not received our charge cards yet. the fact that they wouldn't let us charge wasn't that big of a deal. what was a huge deal is how one of the asst. managers was really rude to us. the cashier was trying to help. then freaking curtis, the store manager is what pushed me over the edge. i told him we hadn't gotten our card yet and he said that the memo went out 6 months ago....basically, we should've gotten our act together and got it in. i informed him that we weren't in charge of that....lee is the one in charge. then he told me that lee had his. i told him no, we hadn't gotten them yet. so, he pretty much says lee is lying and he knows lee has used his. i then tell him that i'm not talking about lee's work and if he hadn't jumped down my throat, he would've known that i was talking about our church. so, it's not bad enough that everytime i go to fc to do a charge for our church, i get treated like i am stealing. now, i'm lying and so is lee, a deacon in our church. this is beyond unacceptable!!! every single time you go in that store, the kids working it are griping about how much they hate it there and when they get off and bad mouthing the managers. now, i have to be treated like crap. this is not right!!! i get so upset anytime i go there. i think this will be the last time i endure this kind of punishment, to give a very ungrateful store my hard earned money. spread the word how much vansant, va food city sucks. we should all go to wal-mart! read more
